That link should contain the video clip.

Blackburn is on a fishing trip. Defining ‘woman’ in simple terms is not that difficult provided we accept that there is some degree of generalization. But in the context of legal rulings, providing an over-simplistic, over-generalized definition is not a good idea. In many contexts, it’s not a good idea.

For the conservative christian intellect, everything is reduced to black and white. A binary world where small words like good and bad are in fact the best words. Four-word sentences reign supreme. Because it all makes sense to them, it all rings so pure and true. When you really get into the nature of the universe and life, physics, anatomy, evolution, and chemistry. it’s not black and white. It’s not simple. There are tons of exceptions and special cases.

That’s it exactly. There are times where we accept a given system can’t readily address all of the complexity out there in the world. We adopt simplicity or generalization for the sake of practicability and manage exceptions as they arise. But if a system outright requires one to deny the complexity that exists in reality, then that system is at odds with reality.

When asked to define the word “woman” by Sen. Marsha Blackburn, Jackson replied “I am not a biologist”.

This was the correct answer to give as it was asked by someone not to elicit an answer but to let her voters know that she had asked it. It was the same reason she was “only asking questions” about guns and CRT. Blackburn was upset that she did not get a straight answer about “something so fundamental” and lamented the dangers of a progressive education system.

Others were “only asking questions” when hinting that she was “soft on crime” when sentencing those accused of child pornography offenses. (Of course, we all know that any mother with 2 daughters would be!!)

Ted Cruz brought in some books for children as he too was very worried about CRT. Turns out Jackson had not read any of them while studying law in Harvard and would not be relying on them while making Supreme Court judgements.

(Ted Cruz was upset when his library was once burned to the ground. Both his books were destroyed. Worse still one of them was not even colored in).

Ketanji! That is a super name. Short version nickname is probably Tanji. Tanji will remind some of tangerines. Others will go to oldie but goodie song, Tangerine. And look at her face. There is no way she is a serial killer. I suspect her intelligence is adequate but exaggerated by her supporters. To observe the spectacle in which Tanji fielded questions was sad but laughable. Just gotta put your feet up, dig into the popcorn and marvel at the futility of human experience. I can’t help but think of one of my favorite passages in literature….out, out brief candle… Other than that how was the play Mrs. Lincoln?

The republicans were flinging fetid pasta against the wall. Some of it was bound to stick. It is a lot easier to answer questions when you are not the one on the spot. And it is better to evade when you are on the spot than it is to give answer that will send you to the gallows. When i was 11 years old at school i was doing something i should not have. Don’t even remember what it was. Teacher confronted me in a pissed off way and asked me who do you think you are. I answered, Glen Rosenberg. Did not do it to be a wise guy. But she was more pissed after that. Same question. Same answer. She asked a third time. Once again. Same answer. Well i got three detentions and had zero intent to be a wise ass. It would have been better to just shut my mouth and look chagrined. No answer trumps bad answer.

FYI, Sen, Susan Collins, a Republican, says Ketanji is clearly qualified so she will vote for her, which makes Ketanji a shoo-in. She WILL be on the Supreme Court. Justice Thomas is still MIA, so maybe Biden will get to nominate another justice.

BTW, this whole question of transgenders or folks (males) who feel they are a female in a male body in sports will hit the fan one of these days like in pro sports or the Olympics.

So what you’re saying is, you not only know fuck all about transgender people, but also sports as well? I mean, when it comes to sports, the fan is absolutely caked in shit. Racism, sexism, ableism, homophobia, exploitation, violence, murders, coverups, sexual abuse, physical abuse, emotional abuse, cheating, drug use, gambling and gambling addiction… and so on. I mean, how many people died just to get Qatar ready for World Cup? And that’s on top of the less concerning yet still scummy FIFA scandals surrounding the selection process. Do transgender people present an issue in sport? Maybe. Maybe. But it’s a certified fact cisgender people can’t handle that shit and have been fucking up relentlessly for centuries. Assholes. Fuckers should not be let near a damn field.

Naturally-born women deserve to be competing against other naturally-born women. You think they don’t. Okay, we disagree. In sports, it’s bodies that compete. A gender dysphoria by a person with a male body should not be a qualification to compete as a woman.

I’m not particularly into sports beyond following my city’s soccer (football) teams (both the men’s and women’s teams, BTW), but I’m not obsessed with them. However, should I start seeing “female” team members on the women’s team with a bulge where a cameltoe might otherwise be, I’ll be asking “In what sense is this a women’s team?”

Maybe we need sports teams consisting of “others.”

Frankly, if sports disappeared off the face of the Earth, I wouldn’t be among those grieving.

Sorry I didn’t quite get it: What was her response to the question?

She said “I’m not a biologist,” which has resulted in dozens of meme’s. The irony is that, although she failed to define “woman” (and for good and complicated reasons that a jurist would be aware of), Biden nominated her as the first black WOMAN. Oh, the irony.

One day you’ll address the point someone is making. On that day, I hope I’ll be able to buy you a beer to celebrate.

Are you referring to that insult-ridden screed which was the bulk of your original response? Tell you what: Give it again without the insults and emotionalism, maybe as bullet points, and I’ll do my best. I do tend to ignore vulgar emotional outbursts.

I don’t see how responding “I am not a biologist” is a bad answer….maybe I just don’t get it. What do you think she should have said? Sorry just trying to understand the issue here

What a copout. You didn’t ignore it. You responded to something I didn’t say. Excuse denied.

…..What is the definition of a male?

    “I’m not a biologist,”

I wonder if that plays any better.

How about, “What is the definition of a chimpanzee,”

    “I am not a biologist,”

    Something to think about anyway…
