I didn’t think you did the us/them, good v. evil game.
It’s a case of “evil vs. everyone else”. Putin is flat-out evil. They have camps in Ukraine where they torture, rape and murder women and girls.
August 14, 2023 at 11:54 am #49730It’s widely accepted that all Putin wanted was for Ukraine not to become a member of NATO and to declare itself a neutral nation. This may still be the position that will bring an end to the war. IF the U.S. really wants the war to end that is. Unfortunately, there’s no reason for the military-industrial complex to want the war to end. Can you honestly think of one? I can’t.
Are you saying that America / the West started the war to make money? Does a bat shit in the woods? I think you’re subscribing to some kind of lefty-conspiracy-parallel-universe.
I imagine the whole world wants the war to stop so that inflation comes down. That’s one good reason. 2, so that the food supply gets going again.
If you live in Europe, as I do, maybe you see the war a different way. Putin is on the same continent. He threatens the whole thing.

These “everything is a govt conspiracy” geniuses give the govt way too much credit, thinking up all these ridiculous schemes. You know who actually works in the so-called “deep-state”? A lot of veterans, disabled people, racial minorities, single mothers, marginalized people, LOL. Because that’s who government often hires. They did such an excellent job tricking Putler into invading Ukraine and hiding all those damn UFOs because, well….there has to be a reason.
If you ever did any shooting with a scoped rifle…this is not a difficult shot, yet millions of American can hardly believe it possible and has to be this huge conspiracy.
August 14, 2023 at 12:35 pm #49732I am on board with Davis. Quite reasonable.
August 14, 2023 at 1:45 pm #49733The war doesn’t make Putin feel good. It helps maintain his interests.
What interests is he maintaining, while he holds his own country’s head down the toilet? Only his emotional / demagogue interests. In fact he operates a lot like Trump.
August 14, 2023 at 1:52 pm #49735Simon, he is still in power, heavily benefitting from the corruption, networking, favours and privileges that come from that. And he is also maintaining the interests of those who keep him in power (one need not look much further than the resources that East Ukraine has, that war makes some people money and that while in War mode you can make bureaucracy, taxes and the legal system work for you and your friends).
One need not look far at all to see that leaders can do very very very well all over the world, while making life for those who live in their nations more and more miserable. African dictators are still doing so to this very day. Especially when they play up on Ethnic issues, promise “safety/stability/glory”, make neighbours the scary bogeymen and control the media. It’s hilarious that some think it is any different in Russia and that those who help keep Putin in power would forsake their own interests and allow Putin to do all this shit because he has an Ego. LOL. If he did things that worked against the higher echelons of Russian society, he would be out of office in a heart beat. No one rules alone.
August 14, 2023 at 3:05 pm #49736@davis – true, he needs to look after the coalitions that keep him in power.
August 14, 2023 at 3:25 pm #49737Simon, nobody here is going to disagree that Putin is evil. But you portrayed ALL RUSSIANS being happy to invade Ukraine.
August 14, 2023 at 4:29 pm #49739@jakelafort – well, it’s only Russians who are doing all the raping and murdering. But I didn’t mean to imply that all Russians are like that. If I did, that was my mistake.

So, you see America and the West as a monolith, totally without internal conflicts and interests. I see them a different way. As complex entities who don’t weigh ethical considerations but who respond to whoever is banging the loudest drum, which means whoever pays the political bills. It’s not a conspiracy theory. It’s the way things actually work. Yes, they have to make a nod to their voting constituencies, but the money the MIC spends on political donations provides them with inspirational platitudes and lies to tell the public to manufacture consent for what benefits the MIC.
I imagine the whole world wants the war to stop so that inflation comes down. That’s one good reason. 2, so that the food supply gets going again.
Yes, both good reasons to get this proxy conflict over with so you can afford to eat and warm yourself in winter and Russia and Ukraine can stop tossing their men into the meat grinder. The consequences of war for both sides—and the world—are costing lives outside the war zone. People thrown out of their jobs end up on the streets, crime increases, drug use increases, impoverished childrenturn to gangs, economies suffer, the groundwork is laid for the next pandemic, and on and on and on. This war needs to be over.
If you live in Europe, as I do, maybe you see the war a different way. Putin is on the same continent. He threatens the whole thing.
The involvement of the United States in NATO is all about the MIC. Europe includes two nuclear powers, the UK and France, both with submarines bearing nuclear missiles. The combined NATO armies far outnumber what Russia could ever muster. NATO presents a threat without the U.S. that Russia would be idiotic to attack because the war would take place on a front so huge it would effectively be indefensible.
I have no idea why we are even there other than to be sure the other members of NATO keep buying MIC-made goodies.
Additionally, I think the European person on the street kind of resents the omnipresence of America’s military, don’t they? Or do we enhance their comfort level?

LOL One has only to look at America. Money presses are rolling to make money to pay the MIC’s ridiculous overcharges. Nary a penny improve the lives of down and out Americans. Money to improve healthcare? Can’t afford it. Money to fight Russia (an economy smaller than Canada’s, BTW)…don’t ask questions or you’re a conspiracy nut.

Maybe shooting a person in a rolling car is an easy shot for you, but I dare you to put two dummies in a convertible and shoot the Kennedy dummy in the head and also hit the Gov. Connally dummy in the shoulder, wrist, and thigh as well, all with one shot. That’s the “lucky bullet” theory.
This is why you’re not a crazy person to doubt the official theory.

Ukrainian war crimes exist as well. Emotions run high in war time and which side has more to hate? The West is a lot more interested in identifying and documenting Russian war crimes than doing the same re: Ukrainian war crimes.

Another whatabout, not absolving Putin.
Still, are you claiming that Ukraine is invading Russia to commit war crimes? Evidence, please.

When I mean what about, I’ll say “What about.” It’s a sad day when pointing out a bias in coverage makes one a whataboutist conspiracy nut.
