So, restricting ALL food makes the body go into lock-down, reduce its metabolic rate, and just refuse to give up the excess it’s got.  In the “wild”, that situation would be called “starving”, and presumably, it’s the reason why most diets don’t work.

Or should that more properly be, restricting energy sources equals starvation.  So, I assume that’s why the low-carb high fat diet is recommended by Dr Fung.

Calorie reduction is very different than simply not eating. Our bodies react completely different the two.

By not eating you’re basically making your body use the energy that it stored up. Doesn’t that make so much fucking sense?

By not eating carbs.  You’re reducing insulin, therefore not laying down fat, while also, switching to burning fat as an energy source.  I agree, calories can go out of the window.

    I had a look at some 220 pound women, they’re not a boom-boom.

Just ran 6k in 36 degrees F. Fairly sure I burned some fat reserves up:-).  Time for an apple and whoever said a protein shake is not a fully balanced meal?? Go any polar bear jokes? Oh wait, this is even funnier, it’s tremendous!

@regthefronkeyfarmer – exercise is definitely beneficial, but apparently it doesn’t lead to a lot of weight loss, directly.  But I think it must foster the well-being that leads to a desire and commitment for other weight-loss programmes (and anything else that’s good in a person’s life).

Bravo! You get a gold star. Now imagine if you weren’t physically able to do those things… What the fuck would you do?  Pull yourself up by your boot straps?  Eat less and move more?… The thing is that this doctor treats people who physically cannot exercise.  Think about it.  The medical community has just told them well you’re just gonna have to fucking die then you don’t have a choice. And that’s wrong.  For the first time I’ve heard someone say that that’s not true

I have physical injuries that prevent me from doing anything but swimming. And I can’t afford a gym membership anymore, and  I live in the Pacific Northwest where it’s fucking cold outside. Trying to move in the cold hurts. I have a physical condition that has been diagnosed that shows this. So even with all the will power in the world there is only so much I can do.  I can do as much as I can possibly do and then that’s all I can do. What maybe couple hundred calories a day burned… It’s not enough even if I practically starved.  But what this doctor is suggesting is vastly different…  there’s a lot of people that hate on fat people  because I think we’re just lazy but no that’s not really true. If it weren’t for my injuries I could go out it hard but… That’s another story.  I dance all the time in the living room with my son but that too doesn’t burn the whole lot so

And I have been lied to about how to treat all of these conditions because the doctors in the United States don’t know.

I know a low carb diet works for me when I want to loose a quick 5-10lbs and don’t have much time for running. Running can get you killed by a car around here, plus you knees could wear out early, so I only run 3 times a week.
