The one thing that makes me feel better about the whole thing is the fact that my body  in all reality is doing what it supposed to do. In a time of famine, I would survive and you wouldn’t ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha… Yeah my Hispanic genes are powerful. I know that if shit were to hit the fan and suddenly there was no food I would survive.  That is my genetics have pre-disposed me to that. It sucks for modern day because it means that I am more likely to be bigger, but now that I know how to burn my own fat, and I’m doing that and it’s working! Now I have a solution or shall I say the solution I was looking for,

Bellen, without being able to exercise i would go a little nuts.  So i can feel for you and anybody who has injuries or conditions that make that impossible.  Seems like Reg’s advice is solid.  I will give that video a listen.

@jakelafort, no need to feel for me anymore now that I know what to do..I’m just angry that no one ever told me the truth.

At this rate I’m not going to talk about my exact numbers, but let’s just say I’ll be comfortably wearing a bikini by summer time at the rate I’m going 🙂 Not only that, I WON’T need any “skin reduction surgery” like my doctors told me I would. So they can all just fuck off!

I feel so confident about this that I’m preparing a stomach tattoo as we speak and planning to get my belly button pierced 😉

As for the pain and injuries they will take longer to heal. But it will be easier with a normal BMI.

It turns out sugar addiction is like being addicted to drugs:

We are all addicts here in the US that’s why we’re so fucking fat lol.

I have lost over 100 pounds in the last four years.  Probably around 75 pounds in year 1, and the rest drifted off gradually.  I have constant energy with no peaks and troughs.  I never get ‘hungry’ – I eat once a day, in the evening.  Sometimes I forget, if I’m out and about, like yesterday, when I realized at 9pm that I hadn’t eaten yet.  Having been medically ‘obese’ for at least 20 years, probably more, I am now medically ‘overweight’ which is bloody marvelous.

I stopped drinking alcohol regularly and now have maybe a couple of glasses of wine a year.  I have hypothyroidism and take 150mg thyroxine daily.

Sorry, folks who despise carb reductions, but I’ve done this by cutting out bread, rice, pasta, potato, sugar and flour.  I aim for around 20 grams of net carbs a day.  My annual health check shows the right numbers in all the categories.

I use my energy for everything.  Someone left something in the other room? I’ll jump up and go get it for them.  Need water?  I’ll jump up and fetch it.  I’m constantly up and down and moving around the house.  I clear the snow off the cars in the winter, and do yard work in the summer.

I love the food I eat.  I’m generally happy. I don’t get headaches. And month by month I lose a pound, sometimes two.

My point here, is that there are many ways to control your weight – for some, calorie counting works.  For others, carb reduction is the trick.  The important thing is to find what works for your own body type AND your own mentality.

I’m a Splenda user, so I can get sweetness if I want it.  Generally I have no food cravings, and can walk past a bakery or a sweet shop without batting an eyelid.

I am not saying this diet is for everyone.  I am saying it works just fine for me 🙂

Strega, that is impressive.  Your life is better and likely longer.  You told us your no no’s.  What do you eat?

@jakelafort Steak, Pork, Chicken, Shrimp, Tuna, all sorts of cheese, eggs, heavy cream, butter, half and half for my coffee with a ton of Splenda, spinach, broccoli, mushrooms, bacon, macadamia, cashew and almond nuts, peanut butter, Diet Coke, tea, and I have some ‘fake’ bread now with 1 net carb a slice, iceberg lettuce, a few cherry tomatoes, green red and yellow peppers, cucumber, baked cheese pieces (to crunch the salad).  Salad dressing is 3/4 mayonnaise 1/4 tomato ketchup.  Steak gets horseradish sauce, pork gets mustard.  Almost all of it is unlimited, as in any size portion you like.   I’ve probably missed something but that’s the basics.

I forgot to mention that on Sundays I eat baby food as a treat and to hell with the extra calories and carbs.

@regthefronkeyfarmer some reading on your favorite snack. Plus it knocks off a reading from your list –

Strega, seems like the moratorium on sugar is offset by the yummy fats.  Does not sound like it would be too hard to follow.  (i am vegetarian so i would not do it)  But man i would hate to give up on sweets.  I need my sugar fix.

Do you go to the orchard in Putney?  Such a cool place to pick a wide variety of apples,  peaches, plums, blue berries…

Or do you eschew all fruit?

Oh and that salad dressing, why?

Jake, I could eat berries of all sorts in moderation, but it introduces an element of grey in my black and white choice model, so I tend to just eat them on birthdays and stuff.

In Europe, ‘prawn cocktail’ is an appetizer that involves shrimp, lettuce and Marie Rose sauce- there are barely any carbs in mayo or ketchup, and mixed together they approximate Marie Rose sauce- so my huge salads have shrimp thrown in and they become giant ‘prawn cocktails’ with the dressing.

It takes about a month to lose all carb cravings, including sugar.  Your tastes adapt.  When I bite into a cherry tomato these days, it’s like a sweet explosion in my head.

Same with me Strega. When I first lowered my carb intake, I felt sorta sick for a week or two, and then eventually the energy came back and lots of savory things began to taste different….you can pick out tiny amounts of sugar !

lower carbs ftw, i ben losing weight for a year… exercise to raise metabolism not just for an hour but for a day… love a bit of fat & meat more than I used to, and it’s more filling than processed or sweet food… trying to fit all meals into 8 hours or so too, or 12 hours at the worst, for the ‘fast’ in between supposedly helps. ketosis is good, high glycemic index foods make blood glucose spike faster and higher and do more damage.

caveat: i’m just speaking for myself! and i wouldn’t say they’re lying… they’re just so damned uninformed and made up their minds before sifting through evidence. big mistake to assume that one solution magically fits for everyone.
