jakelafortParticipantPope,
You are not any way shape or form a lefty. Just a liberal which is totally cool. Having a mindset that is amenable to a change of position based on good arguments and good evidence is the sine qua non of reason and reasonableness.
Lefties have a secular religion. I use that terminology deliberately. Based on bs mythology. Based on an underlying doctrine that is BS. Just like religion. The adherents believe it with all of their heart (except for the ones who use it as a cover for their Jew hatred and with the full knowledge that they are participating in the accentuation of Jew hatred) Just like religion and share the emotional attachment and emotional investment in its efficacy. Oh, and censor POV that contradict or oppose their religion.
I would link ya a good listen but my mouse just broke. Fortunately it is a Yasmine Mohammed podcast. Einat Wilf: how UNWRA obstructs peace in Palestine. Einat is probably the foremost expert in UNWRA. Give it a listen and lemme know your impression.

jakelafortParticipantWoops, Pope, just remembered that there is another Yasmine podcast in which a guy who lived in Gaza and went to a UNWRA school (Hamas teachers) tells his story of how he was beaten silly by his dad and Hamas teacher. He did not want to throw rocks at the Israeli soldiers. They gave him candy. He was surprised to see it was not true that Jews had a third eye or horns like he was taught. It is a really good listen and very revealing. Sorry i do not know the name of the episode. And now that i think about it i think there is another episode about a guy who grew up in Gaza.

jakelafortParticipantVan Jones made a funny statement on CNN.
Surprisingly the entire panel agreed Iran can’t have nucs. Of course they portrayed it as a rogue state and extreme as opposed to par for the course in Islamic nations. Van said Iran wants to kill all of the Jews, wipe out America, wipe out Israel. “One of those three outght to scare progressives.”
The guy from Gaza who is son of a bigwig in Hamas and has come out as a strong proponent of Israel was at one of those Oxford debates and in a hostile crowd, of course. He asked how many in the audience would have alerted Israeli authorities if they had advanced notice Hamas was planning Oct 7 invasion. Says he fewer than 5 percent. But what else would you expect from Oxford students who are progressives and deeply steeped in the secular religion of Jew hatred?
This is entertaining. The guy emotes like a mutha.

UnseenParticipantTime to set Jew vs. Palestinian aside for a bit. Trump just dragged the U.S. into the Israel/Iran conflict. “What Bibi wants, Bibi gets.”

jakelafortParticipantStrega, connecting the dots, with his brief speech it is Trump’s threat that if Iran retaliates against USA there is gonna be hell to pay and that USA can do it with no opposition.
So glad Trump acted. Was worried Israel could not finish the job or if they did it would involve paratroopers and serious loss of life. It would have been easy to kick the can down the road and wait for someone else to pick it up or kick it again. Instead it is done.
Zero doubt that bloodthirsty regime was intending to use it. This is a religious war that Iran has waged against Israel. And the long term intention is to take down the great Satan. The west is in their estimation anathema in its values. None of the brain dead mental gymnastics concerning cultural relativism. No live and let live. It is our way is the only way. They have their own identity politics. And if you are a Jew, Israeli, American, nonmuslim you are not worth the bacteria in your feces.
Now what? Best case scenario. A regime change. Democracy in Iran. From what i have read no idication it is happenning. But this kind of thing is very fluid and Iranians have to wait until the proper time to rise or they will be executed.
No more funding its terrorist proxies. The west stops giving money to UNWRA. Israel is the big dog and that means none of the gulf states or greater region has to fear the dominant player. The west awakens to the reality of the threat posed by Islam. Progressivism as an idea is discredited. It is so incredibly stupid that in the free market place of ideas the secular religion of Jew hatred from the far left and its alliance with the religion of Jew hatred of Iranian regime are finally exposed. That would help retard the infiltration and inculcationn of Islamism and Palestinianism into western civilization.
Furthermore the realization or near realization of the regime’s wet dream of nucs would undoubtedly cause other players in region to shit their pants and begin their own quest for nucs. The more nuclear states the greater the chance of use or accidental setting off. So a major win in obviating that path. And remember the shit back in Hiroshima is major minor and today’s might be more catastrophic than we can imagine.
I don’t see China or Russia or anybody else coming to aid of Iran. North Korea? Maybe but i doubt it. Who else would? So the issue is what Iran does. Cells of Muslim terrorists in US to carry out terrorist attacks here? Maybe. More likely strikes on our military bases in middle east. But thanks to Israel Hamas is not in a position. Hezbollah is weakened Hoohaas under treaty i think but weakened. I guess there are other militias/terrorists in Iraq and Syria. But consider Iran’s dilemna. If they have the capability do they think Trump won’t strike again? Is it worth it to save face to lose much more military capability, infrastructure and leaders?
But how this all plays out is speculation. So often consequences ensue that can not be forseen.

TheEncogitationerParticipantFellow Unbelievers,
One good thing of all this is that the Mullahs who can’t be trusted with glow-in-the-dark paint have been deprived of access to the most destructive weapon man has ever created.
Another good thing is that Trump’s delusions of getting the Nobel Peace Prize are now shot. I’m sure Pakistan will now pull its nomination of Trump for this Cracker Jack brownie badge of a Prize to avoid grief from Islamic rival co-religionist Iran.
All that said, there is lots bad that could happen from here, but nothing that couldn’t have happened anyway or hasn’t happened already.
Unconstitutional declaration of war by a President? Yes. but every U.S. war after World War II has been like that! Congress is as least as much at fault for this as the Executive Branch.
Mullah-backed terrorists striking U.S. installations? Again, that has happened already since the attack on U.S. Marines in Beruit in 1983 and many other smaller times afterward and elsewhere such as in Iraq and Syria.
Mullah-backed terrorists attacking U.S., Israeli, or other civilians? Has happened many times and is still happening.
Even without fully enriched Uranium, the Mullahs could send terrorists with conventional “dirty bombs” filled with radioisotopes. Again, that has been a possibility since the A-Bomb was invented.
And, of course, Israel will still be hated and reviled no matter what it does.
As with many other things. must wait and see…

UnseenParticipantTulsi Gabbard, who has always been antiwar, says that Iran was not just weeks away from a nuclear weapon, but years. But The Orange One says that not just she, but the entire intelligence community is wrong.
Once again it’s a case of Trump’s infallible intuition trumping everything else.

TheEncogitationerParticipantUnseen,
Tulsi changed her mind and agreed with Trump, making Intel even more unreliable:

Fortunately, no Intel is needed to know that when someone says multiple times, indeed as a chant, over 46 years that they want to kill you, and follows through multiple times with all manner of weapons, you believe them.
It also takes no Intel to know that peaceful civilian nuclear facilities require no underground storage.
