In Morocco, atheist Betty Lachgar has now spent a year in prison because Allah does not have better enforcement options than the Moroccan penal system. Blasphemy laws always contain the same epistemological absurdity. They don’t protect an omnipotent deity from injury. They protect believers from encountering speech about their deity that they don’t want to hear.
Here is an example of where Dennis Prager isn’t a very bright bulb. He at one time said that blasphemy is not so much words as it is using the name of God for a profane purpose.
I heard this and I thought: “Well, Goddamn! Wouldn’t that mean that Reverends, Priests, Rabbis, Mullahs, Imams, and Swamis have more to account for than someone who hits their thumb with a hammer?”
