Neither Christian nor Islamic values take their adherents or victims as the case may be to a good place. That much is clear. (as an aside i despise atheists who have accepted the message that only way to be moral is through religious belief) If we examine Islam i would venture to say we are looking at a living anachronism and quite likely worse than they were at various points in history.
It is i guess a reactionary period in which they have been eclipsed by the west in a big fucking way. Their all knowing seeing powerful Alla is looking like jack shit. So the Muslim Brotherhood and its antecedents in Egypt are forced to contemplate and reconcile reality with expectations. From what i have read the movement began in an “intellectual endeavor’ to understand their failure. As things stand they just want to take over the world. Interesting when they don’t hide their ambition and yet it is the Jews who are the colonial imperialist blah blah and yet are on a sliver of land and have ceded territory won in war in interest of peace. Remember it was Muslims and Jews who did the translations that enabled the renaissance. Intellectual life was at a lower point in Christendom than Islam for quite some time. And probably during the Islamic Golden Age there were times when greater tolerance appertained than today. At its nadir was day to day life worse in islamic or Christian? IDK
In answering how bad things can get it is probably relevant how good things were. In USA unprecedented rights and a brilliant constitution paved the way for respect for institutions and individual rights along with a flourishing economy. I am not gonna Zin it and spin it. A history of immigration and assimilation. Wave after wave. Truly you can make it in America if you have the talent and persevere. Notwithstanding institutional racism against Blacks and to a lesser extent Jews we have gotten to a point in which it is an advantage to be Black.
I assume we have a thin majority who give props to our democratic traditions and understand importance of civil rights and separation of C and state. Do the young ones really want to globalize the intifada? I guess those morons would be swallowed up and rendered meaningless in a doomsday nationalist scenario anyways. To distinguish the precedents you raise lets see, Germany has an authoritarian tradition. Did not have any serious revolutions the way other parts of Europe and Russia did. Respected authority too much. (And if only the communists had voted with the opposition to Hitler he would not have come to power.) But obviously economic inflation out of control and the butt hurt from WW1 blah blah. We have heard it all. And idk maybe it is true Germanic peoples have a history of war and seeking domination. All of the conditions were present for trying to take over the world and show how they are the superior race. Eugenics and nazism have been so discredited and are so inapposite in USA i can’t extrapolate anything from today that looks like Germany. And it was not primarily a Christian movement or spurred by it notwithstanding Lutheranism or the Concordat.
Spain is also a totally different scenario. Spain in its reconquista was all about the most Catholic intolerance and hatred that unified disparate regions of Spain espeically in its Jew hunting inquisition. It was a religious power struggle. Ultimately both Muslims and Jews expelled in same year Christopher sailed the oceans blue. No history of civil rights or democracy there. The Christian mindset utterly dehumanized the natives in the new world. Hopefully we have outgrown that shit.
