TJ, I mostly agree. This is in the Theist section and I recently completed a 6 week Church group series (my step father invited me so I indulged him) called, “Who Needs God?” by Northpoint Ministries (http://northpoint.org/whoneedsgod).
Interesting series going through Atheism, different God concepts, Jesus’ ideas on God, then ultimately…[Read more]

The Trump presidency is doing two things particularly well. 1. His horrific behaviour is motivating the young to understand and engage with politics even if just to resist. They are far more likely to vote going forward. 2.. He is putting the checks and balances in the structure of the American system to test – paving the way for p…[Read more] -
Andrew Brown replied to the topic Natural Selection: Dems Want It to Go Slower, Repubs Want It to Go Faster in the forum Politics 8 years, 11 months ago
The idea of artificial selection is such a misnomer. We are part of nature just like everything else. Everything is natural evolution. Whatever we decide to do is part of the natural cycle as we are not apart from it. Humans are evolving just as everything else in the Cosmos is evolving.
The national parties are bought and owned by the mega…[Read more]

As always, such a shame to see Islamic culture has fallen so far from the roots.
From what I have read, it seems like the original Islamic culture was more aligned towards the enlightenment values of philosophy and scientific investigation. -

Agree with Strega. I am not a lawyer and know there are far too many laws for me to know the answer.
Regardless of the law, from my personal POV I say the mother committed the crime of forgery on an official document and should be handled through the civil court, not criminal court.

For the sake of conversation, I will assume the referenced threat occurred while the father passes the mother and child.
I am unable to make a positive claim either way as I am not close enough to hear the threat. I would suggest the officer confirm with the others in ear shot.Women beaters are no longer fit for society and women know it; makes…[Read more]

OMG! Someone on the internet was able to understand me. I am fairly sure this is the first time.
I am being completely serious.

Strega, I choose my words carefully. The “mistake” term is part of evolution. When the DNA replicates incorrectly, a mistake has occurred, which is also the process by which genes mutate.
It is a beautiful mistake which creates infinite diversity.
On the peace idea: Have you ever entered a sensory deprivation chamber? Many consider this near…[Read more]

I have nice chats with Jehova’s Witnesses.
They like to shock you with a blunt question then answer it for you if you can’t.
The conversation usually spirals towards faith and I have to shut them down with the old, “Faith is not a path to truth.”
They acquiesce and I get back to my video games. -

I am still an idealist; maybe I am the crazy one.
I seek the ideal and reach the best possible.

Strega, I can see how you would call that a non-sequitur. I always fear defining every single term makes a post unreadable while skipping it makes it incomprehensible.
Evolution is how a system changes from current state to next state. You may have learned from procrastination that things only happen when the pressure or force is high enough.…[Read more]

Pope, from what I have gleamed from LHC results; If space, then energy then change. Though, it could easily have been; If energy, then space then change.
From what I have learned about the stages of our cosmos; X is in State A then changes to State B then and on and on.
This definition of God is the force by which change occurs because everything…[Read more] -

Intro: My understanding of the god concept.
What is God? God is the creator.
What is the Creator? The force by which everything evolves.
What is evolution? A mistake that must be corrected.
What is the mistake? Falling from pure Peace.
What is pure Peace? Nothingness.
If we want to exist, nothingness cannot. The fact that nothingness cannot…[Read more]
