    @ Jake

While of course military folk can vote and can have political views, their oath is to The Constitution and not the President, and if an order is clearly not allowed under that sacred document, we should be able to expect them to decline to carry it out. That said, a President can probably find some weak kneed, sympathetic, or corruptible individual to do his bidding even if it is illegal.

The time and place for their political views to matter is the time and place when/where they vote.

Now that Trump’s elected, has the prospect of civil war gone away? Hardly!

If you want underage girls become a Muslim. Left will defend you by shutting down any criticism of raping girls cuz ya know…islamophobia

@jakelafort, are there any good humans any more?

(I first wanted to say ‘are there any good humans “left”?’, but that would have opened a trap door beneath me.)

Trump being elected means CNN and MSNBC ratings will soar. One shit show after another and viewers outraged and wanting more.

Maybe when the dust settles. (4 minute video)

Start at 10,000 feet and zoom in on a row of houses 50 miles from any Midwest or Southern larger city. Pick any house and zoom in on the kitchen where a 56 year old, married white couple having coffee and toast. Fox news is on the den TV that has a painting of Jesus placed atop. Trump is talking about eliminating the Dept of Education. They are beaming about the big win. Their kids won’t have them over this Thanksgiving or Christmas, but that’s OK. “They have been brainwashed by the libs. They’ll see when milk and gas is $1.99/gal again”.

Robert, ya made me think of a modern Sinclair Lewis. Main Street updated 100 yrs later and in the gloaming same folks are roaming. During day it is same way.

Pope, if i had thought about it i might have guessed in wake of election a feeling of revulsion would repel those viewers. But drug addicts are drawn to the high and hate the withdrawl symptoms so they’ll be back.

I see what ya did there with the left. You’re right. And yet I don’t mean to demonize lefties to the exclusion of right wingers or anyone else. We sort of have to posit free will even if we think it is absent. So to the extent I am reacting to the overt representations and behavior of far left i conclude it is despicable.

Enabling Islam to flourish is mind boggling when one considers how the humanist aims of the left are thwarted at every turn. It is a quarter of the human population enchained by beliefs that are primitive, barbaric and retrograde. Those beliefs cause untold suffering in lives within and without the cult. Oh and they only want to Islamise the world. How bad could that be?

The far left is also directly responsible for the rise of antisemitism and plays a significant part in perpetuating the futile Palestinian struggle. Embracing utter bullshit narratives that are seized by some who know no better and others who simply hate Jews. Further, it is responsible for the uptick in fascism. How did you think those beliefs/behavior would play out? How could Europe do anything other than turn right? Wokeness? Identity politics? Garbage in. Garbage out. They become what they despise. RACISTS.

From Robert’s 10,000 foot view the far left and hard right are mirror images. Utterly religious and intransigent. Incapable of examining their ideology while bringing to bear that level of incisiveness exhibited in nonideological matters. Filled with emotion, animus & vituperation for the OTHERS.

I talk to Trump cultists. So i understand the so called Trump derangement syndrome. Logic utterly in the toilet. Insane conspiracy theories. Projecting his embarassing stupidity/ignorance onto Kamala. Overlooking/rationalizing things that can not be overlooked about Trump.

I was talking to Muslims and the ones i spoke to are shockingly ignorant/stupid. When they called on their guru to oppose me it was one step up from their abysmal ignorance and unending logical fallacies. But just window dressing. That reminds me i read about a study of Arab university students and their ability to think critically. They scored terribly. After some training in critical thinking they improved markedly. I so wish critical thinking was an integral part of education from beginning to end. It is the only way i know that might help humans resist that strong sweep ya off your feet current.

It should be a trite observation that i am making. Humans are acted on. Their beliefs and morality are an external product of their culture. Very few think independently. Very few can circumvent the current. Good doesn’t have much meaning in a philosophical way.

If you believe free will is absent, there’s no logical basis applying the epithet “despicable.” Absent free will, whatever happens had to happen due to the antecedents. That includes your actions and beliefs as well as anyone else’s.

The far left is also directly responsible for the rise of antisemitism and plays a significant part in perpetuating the futile Palestinian struggle.

If someone blames Jewry for the genocide, I agree they are antisemitic. However, if someone blames Netanyahu/his government, that is not antisemitic. It isn’t reasonable to ask people to remain silent about Israel’s largely indiscriminate killing of Palestinians because some morons draw the wrong conclusion and blame Jewry rather than the Israeli government.

No argument that despicable is meaningless when as i keep hammering, nobody is home, humans are swept up by the current. Caught in Nazi Germany as a child indoctrinated into Hitler Youth? We know how you think and behave. Indoctrinated in a Hamas/UNWRA school and surrounded by others swept up in Islamic cult? We know how you think and behave. Raised in Christian Spain circa 1524 and come to new world as a conquistador? We know how you think and behave. The good guy/bad guy dynamic of the far left misses the mark completely. At the same time we humans have human reactions. Overtly it is indeed despicable. I prefaced my conclusion as you have quoted so that my position is elucidated. It is a sort of cognitive dissonance that is a necessary result of the no free will position.

Israel sets the standard in urban warfare and it is guilty of genocide? A more accurate characterization is a constructive genocide by Hamas. I am not going to spell out how ridiculous is the characterization of genocide. I am sure you can trot out dozens of lefty videos and quotes to support the contention of genocide. Jews so need to have these matters debated and have the lefties embarassed and humiliated. The discourse is beyond tendentious and chock full of words with connotations that assume a matter not in evidence and not true. Even purportedly neutral media like BBC does its part in calumniating Jews.

@jakelafort – ya made me think of a modern Sinclair Lewis.

I recently asked AI to “Compare Trump and Berzelius “Buzz” Windrip”. I thought the last paragraph of the answer was very funny.

Sinclair Lewis’s 1935 novel *It Can’t Happen Here* introduces Berzelius “Buzz” Windrip, a populist politician who ascends to the U.S. presidency by exploiting nativist sentiments and promising sweeping economic reforms. His character has been compared to Donald Trump, particularly during Trump’s 2016 presidential campaign.

    **Similarities:**

    – **Populist Appeal:** Both Windrip and Trump positioned themselves as champions of the “forgotten” populace, pledging to restore national greatness and challenge established political elites. Windrip’s campaign emphasized a return to “traditional” values, mirroring Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan.

    – **Charismatic Communication:** Windrip and Trump utilized direct, unfiltered communication styles to connect with their audiences. Windrip’s speeches were noted for their plainspoken and often inflammatory rhetoric, similar to Trump’s campaign approach.

    – **Authoritarian Tendencies:** In the novel, Windrip consolidates power by undermining democratic institutions and suppressing dissent. Critics have drawn parallels to Trump’s actions and rhetoric, suggesting potential threats to democratic norms.

    **Differences:**

    – **Fiction vs. Reality:** Windrip is a fictional character whose actions lead to the establishment of a totalitarian regime in the U.S. While Trump’s presidency faced criticism for authoritarian tendencies, the U.S. maintained its democratic institutions during his tenure.

    – **Historical Context:** Windrip’s character was inspired by figures like Huey Long and Adolf Hitler, reflecting 1930s concerns about fascism. Trump’s rise occurred in a different era, influenced by contemporary issues such as globalization and digital media.

While there are notable similarities between Windrip and Trump, particularly in their populist rhetoric and charismatic appeal, it’s important to recognize the distinctions between a fictional narrative and real-world events.

    (no shit Sherlock).

Globalization was hard on people who didn’t get tech degrees or specialize in skills valued by international corporations. Education level has become the best predictor for how someone will vote. I have been worried for years that ultra-liberals can in fact be very unliberal and will drive the political center way to the right. I expressed that concern on this forum many times.

Casting Palestinians as innocent victims, telling us that a trans woman with a dick really is the same as a biological woman, expecting that everyone should go to college to have value and cancelling and/or ostracizing people who said things not exactly “the correct way” are all prime examples of illiberal ideas.

    Well, here we are now.

The thousands of Palestinian children killed fairly indiscriminately by Israel are not innocent?

Being the father of a one time girl athlete who put herself through UNLV on a swimming scholarship, I’m opposed trans “girls” (pre- or post-op) competing against real girls. Even the post ops take their boyish physique with them. I studied anatomy (in art class) and know that males and females are anatomically different with the advantage going to the males. Now, I don’t want to prevent trans females from competing in sports, but they need their own category in most sports.

There may be some sports where gender is neither here nor there (archery, darts, shooting sports, for example), but in most, males are inherently better suited. In some areas, like gymnastics, I believe girls are performing maneuvers their male counterparts can’t touch.

The parents of these brainwashed children are happy to use them as human shields. There were miles of tunnels, but those were for safeguarding their precious terrorists only. Such a great honor to have a martyr in the family, especially if they killed some Jews first. Even as many Iranians themselves are protesting their oppressive government, Palestinians are still pro Hamas, living in tents and rubble. No wonder the rest of the Arabs are done with them.

This policy mistakes that liberal colleges made just to placate “feelings” are a big reason we lost the American center to authoritarians. Obviously with Russian stooge Tulsi G. (appeals to assassinator Putin with “Aloha”) as intelligence director, a scumbag of man Gaetz being investigated, now the AG who decides on investigations, and an anti-vax conspiracy nut job in charge of health, even the dumbest Trumpet might realize this is an attempt at a chaotic, dysfunctional government.

Putting a corrupt “lawyer” with virtually no legal experience who’s also likely guilty of sex trafficking in charge of the FBI… How could that go wrong?
