“A look at Aztec moral philosophy.”
– it certainly is interesting to see a different “system” or approach, and to see the same themes coming up as always, but in different ways.
It seems that the difference between East and West, in the way that society is either individualist or collective, may apply also to the ancient Greeks (individualist) and the Aztecs (collective).
When someone in Aztec society “slipped up” and made a moral misdemeanour, the sense of disgust was evoked: it was said that they had got themselves dirty in the mud.
Their society seems friendlier than some others: people stood or fell with the help of their friends and people around them, rather than alone. What’s more, rationality was seen as a social endeavour rather than just a solo effort. Experience was valued for its usefulness rather than feared as competition.
