Yeah, try explaining how this works to fearful Christian conservatives, whose entire lives are based on landing natural and supernatural credit. The crazy thing is that much of the national debt is owed to foreigners (like the Chinese) who would suffer badly if the country defaulted.
I was worried about my Federal agricultural-loan bonds being called in early, but that’s not gonna happen for at least a good while now. Rates are going up. These bonds paid pretty good because…you know how farmers always need money and well, they really “Trumped” themselves into hard times this last election. It looks like the agri-bailouts they usually get have been DOGE’D. Again, they probably won’t connect the dots because of the horrors of “Hunter Biden’s Laptop” and trans-story hour.

Ah, the national debt may not matter anyway…
Except that what the Government taxes us to pay just the interest is that much less that private Citizens can invest in goods and services-producing businesses to keep GDP growing.
Note to self: Do not hire such economists or Janet Yellen to administer so much as an ice cream truck.

You’re engaging in some pretty magical pie-in-the-sky thinking yourself to think that debt to Red China or the Saudis can have no ill consequences somewhere down the line.
And what good are well-paying Agri-Bonds if you’re taxed out of the earnings? As for the farmers, their real enemies are the Crunchies who would hog up millions of acres of perfectly good bottom land for subsidized solar panels and keep the farmers from producing profitable earnings by banning Genetically-Modified crops. And that farm land and those crops are Nature’s Perfect Carbon Sink, which farmers tend at no one’s sacrifice and to the benefit of all. Uncle Sam is doing them no favors.

Ahh…afraid of China owning US treasuries, are you? The reason they did is that until recently our bonds were as good as gold and the dollar was the world’s currency. The entire planet was invested in the success of our government and society. Now that the codependency (aka “globalism”) and our special status is being destroyed…yeah, it’s time to worry. When we are no longer needed or wanted for our financial stability and services, our technology, science, education, and our human services…it’s the beginning of the end of the empire.
Solar panels taking away all the farm land….that’s pretty silly.
To power the entire United States with solar energy, it would require roughly 22,000 square miles of land, based on current solar panel efficiency. This is roughly the size of Lake Michigan. However, if more efficient panels are used, the required area could be reduced to around 10,000 square miles, similar in size to Lake Erie.

jakelafortParticipantNot being snide to suggest it is a kinder, gentler genocide. As victims it is like a library. In response to genocidal neighbors, not only Hamas, but the citizens who are aligned it is akin to Nazis, puts the Turks to shame…
Anyone or any group that hopes to end the senseless violence involving Israel and Palestinians should stop advancing the lefty lie. Instead tell em you lost. Yeah you lost. You tried and tried and tried and it was always same thing. The cause? Not the land being ours; instead the land not being Juden. The colonizers of the middle east had known Jews as dhimmis for centuries and demanded behavior of a subjugated and quiescent minority often inflicting humiliation sprinkled with periodic pogroms. Intolerable having their own country however tiny and insignificant. A territorial nonmother fucking factor. Oh my gosh the references just keep coming…
The mythology that drove the Germans and Japanese was defeated when they acknowledged that they LOST. Their nations and the world at large benefited by accepting the truth. A true metamorphosis. But you lefty morons want to keep the fire stoked? Generation after generation of palestinians infected with the Jew hatred mythology. That is good Bob. What is your name Bob, is it Bob?
In reality it is the most advanced and responsible operation in Gaza under insanely difficult conditions. The alternative is lie down and die. That would be pleasing to the lefties. Just fucking take it bitch! Jew bitch! Ya goddamn bitch! I doubt anyone gets that reference.
The perpetuation and indeed explosion of Jew hatred mythology is truly indicative of an unstable millieu. Clearly it was latent and only needed a fillip to reignite. Israel has gone vegan while the rest of the world continues to slaughter and devour bloody red meat. That is a bit much jake. I am not doubting there have been war crimes. It is a constant in war. Any objective metric comparing Israel to other nations demonstrates a kinder gentler genocide.
Israel and Jew hatred mythology is a scheme in effect that obviates the need of humanity to look in the mirror. It aint pretty either. Don’t look up. Don’t look in the mirror either. You won’t like what you see.

Are you are talking to me there, wise guy? If so, I thought you were astute enough after dozens of posts to understand my hardline stance against Palestinians and their supporters. If not, my apologies. I do often overestimate people. In any case, it’s all Left/Right to you. Good thinking there, champ. Such brilliance, such nuance. The kind of deep thinking our dear leader enjoys so much.

jakelafortParticipantRobert,
No that was not directed to you! In general i have found you to be quite the reasonable person and well above average intelligence. Never thought you were aligned with Palestinianism or any of the bs mythology. Facts driven, science reliant, amenable to change of position if reason is brought to bear on a topic.
Merely spitting in the wind. There are what, five or six regular participants here and a dozen who read our scribbles? Idk. Sometimes i play word games and have coffee to wake. Today i read the linked article and decided to write some thoughts.
You are mistaken however in ascribing to me a dynamic with no broader dimensions than left v. right.

Reg the Fronkey FarmerModeratorIf the EU can grant Temporary Protection Directive status for 4.2 million Ukrainians, then surely the rich Arab nations can do the same for 2.2 million (or many more) Palestinians in their own countries?
Could it be that authoritarian regime like Egypt, Saudi Arabia, or the UAE just don’t want politically active populations, and Palestinians are seen as vocal, politicized, and sometimes affiliated with movements like the Muslim Brotherhood (which many regimes oppose)? Could it be that many Arab leaders like to use the Palestinian “cause” symbolically to unify their own people or to distract from domestic problems? Could it be that by not solving the refugee issue, they keep pressure on Israel and the West? Could it be that their labour systems rely on non-citizen workers with few rights and offering citizenship or resettlement goes against the model? What are the chances that UNRWA would support any of the above?
“Palestine” only ever existed as a geographic and administrative term, it never existed as an independent sovereign nation-state. The concept of a Palestinian national identity as understand today, emerged in the 20th century, largely in response to Zionism and colonial rule. There has been a continuous Jewish presence in the area known as Palestine for over 3,000 years. This is the same land as the ancient kingdoms of Israel and Judah existed in. There have been Jewish communities in Jerusalem, Tiberias, Safed, Hebron, and other cities throughout Roman, Byzantine, Islamic, and Ottoman rule. By the 1800’s Jews were a minority, maybe only 5% of the population and they lived under ‘dhimmi’ or a protected minority status within the Islamic caliphates and Ottoman Empire.
What changed in the late 1800s was the organized political movement of Zionism which wasn’t just about living in the Holy Land. It aimed to establish a sovereign Jewish homeland. The well-founded belief that Jews could never be safe without a state of their own was put into focus with the rise of antisemitism in Europe and pogroms in Russia. By 1914 about 65,000 Jewish immigrants arrived (mostly from Russia). These immigrants bought land legally but were seen by many Arabs as outsiders threatening their way of life.

Anyone should be afraid of being in debt to any other and should work to get out of debt, something the U.S. Government with it’s endless spending hasn’t been doing for decades.

You’re not making your case very well here. In fact you’re making my argument for me.
That’s 10,000 to 22,000 square miles of space where the Sun couldn’t shine under the panels, where nothing could grow underneath. If the panels were over Lake Michigan and Lake Erie, no plankton or vegetation could grow underneath, the fish and wildlife would die off, and these Lakes would be as lifeless as when they were on fire back in the 1970s.
With nuclear power and safely extracted and fracked petroleum and shale, it doesn’t take near that much real estate and none of this is a problem.

TheEncogitationerParticipantJake and Reg,
You two need to talk some sense to this guy here on Only Sky Media:
It is time for the end of Zionism
What hope is left for peace in the Mideast?
Phil Zuckerman

https://onlys.ky/it-is-time-for-the-end-of-zionism/On one hand he concedes the need for Jews to have a refuge from their long history of persecution, then he moves to trash the Zionist cause which saught to build that refuge and then calls for some fecklessness that he calls Post-Zionism which he says is not Anti-Zionism. Ya’ digging this?
With writing like this, is it a small wonder that Only Sky Media went belly up once and could do it again?
Oh well, John Lennon was an asshole anyway.

jakelafortParticipantWell written and spot on Reg.
It is carping and only academic but i believe Palestina was the term used by Romans to dissasociate Jews from their homeland after putting down Jewish rebellions. And there were later references to Palestine but in the early 20th century Palestine was used to refer to the Jewish homeland. Thus the Palestine Post, forerunner to Jerusalem Post. And i heard i think from Einat Wilf ( extemely well versed in all this crap) that there were Jewish sports teams before the foundation of Israel known as the Palestine so and so…

Reg the Fronkey FarmerModeratorThe creation of Israel/Palestine borders (via the Balfour Declaration) and the partition of Ireland into Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland were both outcomes of British imperial decisions, and both have resulted in prolonged, identity-driven conflicts. However, they differ in origins, religious dynamics, international dimensions, and resolutions. During one of the lulls in the fighting in Northern Ireland (aka a “peace process”) Gerry Adams quipped, in reply to a heckler shouting “Bring back the IRA” that “They haven’t gone away, you know”. HAMAS will not be packing their suitcases and heading to Qatar on a 747 anytime soon.
