OK, tell me why we should not?

We’re all a self-generating source of flourishing and meaning.  The need to flourish generates goals; goals generate meaning.  Without goals, we just languish, which is what happened to a lot of people in the pandemic.

I would like to ask both of you “Given the current inflationary pressures, how do you plan to balance the need for tighter monetary policy to control inflation with the potential risks to economic growth and employment? Specifically, what fiscal measures will your government adopt to mitigate the impact of rising consumer prices on lower-income households without exacerbating inflationary pressures further?” so I can make an informed decision on who to vote for.

Trump would say “immigrants” or “build the wall”.  Harris would say something coherent and intelligent.

I just cannot see how a person articulate and intelligent enough to ask such a question cannot decide the pros and cons of voting for Trump or Harris.

It’s a form of love, hero worship and a sense of belonging. It’s not a comparison of policies between candidates.  Trump built this with the MAGA movement.

This is why the sorts of things that might make them reconsider, are emotionally based. His crowd is too small. He’s losing his marbles. And finally, he’s boring. He has nothing new to say that isn’t super weird.

Reg, i took your question as satire cuz the electorate would as a whole have eyes glass over with that question and any intelligent answer would be similarly greeted with glassy eyes.

As to why any articulate and intelligent person can be for Trump? Easy, it is same as religion, a dichotomy. We are as a species so subject to ideology and it result in not using that same level of reasoning that is applied to other nonideological issues.

I was amazed at just how ideologically driven university students and otherwise intelligent progressives are as it relates to Israel and all of the BS narratives. It is literally a mini religion of hatred against Jews/Israel. So the reasoning part of the brain is constantly rationalizing or is seated in an echo chamber of validation.

Oh, and as an aside i lost respect for Mark Cuban’s intelligence when he endorsed Trump. I don’t think it was at all ideologically driven even if he thought he’d be better for economy.

Hey Popey that was magnificent!  The only sad bit is where the video ends and I have to hit replay.

    Thanks for sharing!

What traits make someone morally exceptional?

    From the original paper:

Across three studies, there was strong subjective consensus on who is morally exceptional: those who are empathetic and prone to guilt, those  who reflect on moral issues and identify with morality, those who have  self-control and actually enact moral behaviors, and those who care about  harm, compassion, fairness, and honesty.

What I find interesting is that these attributes are consistent with standard evolutionary ethics.  So, this empirical study matches up with the theory, or at least, does not contradict it.  That’s good.

Deep controversies also existed about the moral directions pursued by those seen as morally exceptional: People evaluated those who pursued similar values and made similar decisions more favorably.

It’s not surprising that people who agree with them are seen as more morally exceptional than those who don’t.
