Atheist Zone 10 years, 10 months agoHi Keith, as you guessed; video hosting tends to become cost-prohibitive due to storage, processing, and bandwidth costs. I’m guessing there’s wordpress plugins which would give us just about all the other functionality you mentioned.
Personally though, I never really liked the Blog section on TA. I preferred the threaded replies of the…[Read more]

Bookish atheists 10 years, 10 months agoBased on what little I know, I’d read it first… then take the other one with a grain of salt, it’s not necessarily the same set of characters.

Bookish atheists 10 years, 10 months agoWait though.
And I admit upfront I’ve not read either book, but I don’t think you should find it devastating that stuff an author never intended to publish, that was written before the “canonical” work (TKAM) contradicts the work.
It’s entirely possible that as she thought about the characters, she decided to send them in a different direction…[Read more]

Bookish atheists 10 years, 10 months ago@BelleRose So since Go Set A Watchman was written in mid-1950s and To Kill A Mockingbird was written in the 1960s then the proper thing todo is to read Go Set A Watchman first? Right? But Harper Lee never truly meant for Go Set A Watchman to be published so instead she wrote and published To Kill A Mockingbird Which people thought was the first…[Read more]

Bookish atheists 10 years, 10 months ago@BelleRose That’s what my understanding of it is too. But then why call it a fraud?

Bookish atheists 10 years, 10 months ago@BelleRose I don’t think of it to be a fraud either but they seem to be talking about whether or not its actually new. Some think that it’s not new and so they then go and call it a fraud.

Bookish atheists 10 years, 10 months agoI saw something online that had about there being some controversy about Harper Lee’s new book Go Set A Watchman calling the book a fraud. Bookish atheists 10 years, 10 months ago@earthheart, I know what you mean about it not going anywhere. The plot is very meandering and somewhat random. I like it for that reason though. For me, that fits in with the personality of Holden’s character and what he is struggling with. It would not be considered a classic story-arc.
However, you and I must have a different take on swearing…[Read more]

Bookish atheists 10 years, 10 months ago@Simonm I tried to read Catcher In The Rye but I couldn’t finish it because the almost constant swearing was becoming annoying and the book didn’t seem to go anywhere.

Bookish atheists 10 years, 10 months agoI have several favourite books of all time, as we all probably do. One that I would save from a fire is “The Road to Reality” by Roger Penrose, who is number 2 to Steven Hawking as a mathematical physicist. I’ve done half of a maths degree, and I can only understand the first chapter of this big thick book. My sweet heart gave it to me when we…[Read more]

Bookish atheists 10 years, 10 months agoMy favourite book is Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger. An excellently observed portrayal of disaffected youth. It’s funny but with a tinge of sadness underneath it all.
