PopeBeanie replied to the topic SCOTUS Gone Rogue, Politically & Ideologically in the forum
Politics 1 year, 9 months agoI wish to understand how cults and extreme movements manifest. I see more anger and hate in social media than ever before. I’m seeing people say, with confidence, authoritarianism would be better than the current “permissive society that’s ruining America”. The threat to democracy is real, wrapped in an American flag, and carried by Christian…[Read more]

Politics 1 year, 9 months agoIt would be great if Hunter S. Thompson was still around do write a few ‘gonzo journalism’ articles on Trump. The fear and loathing has since spread out from Las Vegas.

Politics 1 year, 9 months agoI jump in a bit, leaving 4-1/4 minutes to watch:
(He shook his head when he said “I’m not Christian”. It sounded intentional to me, but maybe he’s just stirring the pot, in the moment, to get more headlines?)

Politics 1 year, 9 months agoOK, I’ll expand this topic beyond SCOTUS. It can also be about neo-GOP, 2024 election, and Project 2025. (It’s a fricken conspiracy.)
10 minutes of Thom Harmann on JD Vance vs (childless cat lady) Kamala Harris.

Politics 1 year, 9 months agoThey’ve gone even further than I expected, and I was already pessimistic.
Hari Sreenivasan spoke with Leah Litman, law school professor at the University of Michigan about Trump’s classified documents case being dropped by one of the judges that Trump appointed.
Later in the interview possible remedies to balance SCOTUS were also…[Read more]

Politics 2 years, 7 months agoSpeaking of Vivek Ramaswamy, his campaign died in one interview by Mehdi Hasan. You rarely see anyone so thoroughly and successfully (though not to his benefit) avoid answering a simple question:
almost as devastating as when Chris Wallace (while on Fox!) destroyed Trump attorney Jay…[Read more]

Politics 2 years, 7 months agoThis should become an interesting states’ rights vs their political parties’ issue. I haven’t researched the possibilities yet, but I wonder if the only meaningful judgement in constitutionality might come from SCOTUS. While Trump hasn’t been convicted, what powers DO a state’s executive branch have over political party behaviors?
Isn’t such…[Read more]

Politics 2 years, 8 months agoA new POLITICO Magazine/Ipsos poll provides some bad news for Trump: Even as he remains the clear frontrunner for the Republican nomination, the cascading indictments are likely to take a toll on his general election prospects.
The survey results suggest Americans are taking the cases seriously — particularly the Justice Department’s 2020 elect…[Read more] -

Politics 2 years, 8 months agoFormer Trump admin officials are arguing that they can’t be prosecuted if they were working under color of their job. This is an accepted legal principle. However, they are essentially arguing that it can be part of their job to conspire to overturn an election. I’d be surprised if they make any headway in court with that argument.
Arguing that…[Read more]

Politics 2 years, 8 months agoWhat a clown-show. The logic of supporting the guy who will easily beat you while arguing that he is being unfairly prosecuted is beyond me. Talk about ass-kissing simps.
Christie’s belt size makes him seem like a guy with no self-control, but at least he makes some sense. Can the Indian guy ever win the hearts of all those racist MAGATs? Good…[Read more]

Politics 2 years, 8 months agoBefore I read your post, I decided to watch a 12-1.2 minute PBS Newhour summary after all, and found it more interesting than expected. Watch how many hands went up when asked if they would vote for Trump if he was convicted, around 3:55.

Politics 2 years, 8 months agoYeah, Trump has to work on his “I’m innocent” look. I’m sure this look appeals to those thirsting for blood in the streets, however.
As for the debate, the ones who made the best showing were Nikki Haley, Vivek Ramaswamy, and Chris Christie. Note that two of those three are Indian-Americans.
Ron DiSantis’s slide continues. He’s turned into a…[Read more]

Politics 2 years, 9 months agoIs this paranoia? Is this the left’s fault, for pushing the GOP to entertain authoritarianist-like power grabs? To bring out their inner monsters? Is it just fake news from PBS?
