Is that really the hill you want to make your last stand on?

Well, corporations have been doing this all along. Not that it is the right thing to do.

Maybe the Fed should have intervened in the market to control prices because i don’t see how individual businesses operating in a free market economy would not respond to inflation pressures in the market.

First, two disclaimers. I am not an economist and I am ignorant of the happenings in the US of A. But I know two things, in a free market economy, business are price takers unless where they are monopolies where they dictate both price and output. They exist to make profit. And when there is more cash in the economy, prices will go up. Now those whose salaries or pensions are fixed would suffer greatly from rising prices.

Pandemics interfere with supply chains. SO you have more cash than goods demanded and prices definitely rise.

My take is this guy is saying things a first year macroeconomics student would know. There is nothing to see here, unfortunately.

    speech not being violent.

Surely speech can only be harmful, not violent. Violence is physical. To call words “violence” is to devalue the word “violence”.

Why, I agree with you on this. Speech can’t be violent, but we live in that age where words no longer mean what we thought they meant a while back.

Bearing in mind that digression is the oxygen of intelligence and bearing arms is becoming a stale topic how is it that dopers are skinny? I want to eat like three horses and a Naked and Afraid contestant when i partake.

I guess addicts don’t eat too well so they remain skinny

@davis The Anarchist Cookbook is banned in the United States? No, you can even pick it up on Amazon. I’m not arguing in favor of pedophilia, which should be legal in practice. I do think that NAMBLA shouldn’t be presenting their arguments in favor of buggery. I’m opposed to slavery but I can’t agree with outlawing discussing or even advocating it as long as the opposition is equally able to present their contrary views. I’m opposed to active incitement in front of a crowd, but if someone wants to advocate rebellion or sedition in print or on Youtube, that should be okay. The distinction is between being a general advocate of something (giving people something to think about) and trying to make it happen now without a period of reflection (the essence of incitement). Now, if one’s argument is that hate speech must be banned or criminalized due to the harm done, okay, what about non-hateful speech that causes harm? In other words, is it the hate or the harm that bothers you? There are people who are triggered by the very mention of some things. Well, gosh, let’s not discuss any sort of abuse, then, and threaten to bring the full weight of the government down on anyone who dares unhatefully to mention sexual abuse, domestic abuse, or any number of other potential triggers?

You make good points, Unseen, which in general I am in agreement with.  I am trying to think of non-hateful speech that causes harm and I have come back blank.

and why would anyone want to lose 50 lbs in 28 days? where is the hurry?

I literally lost more than 27kg in six weeks when I developed kidney problems (60 pounds or 5 stone). It horrified the shit out of my friends who didn’t see in between the before-and-after phase. Want to know the secret? I promise you it doesn’t involve any magic, woo or complicated diet skills. Simply: develop hypertension and renal problems, vomit out most of what you eat and lose almost all your appetite. Sit in a bed with negative energy for weeks, have a tube stuck through your neck and have your blood filtered through a machine. Bonus part: leave the hospital and never see a single bill, do any paperwork or have to worry about premiums, pre-existing conditions, supplementary costs or bill-shock. So yeah…if you live in a socialist country you can do all of this weight loss for free 🙂

Did you gain some of it back or most of it?

I forget. We have ambient weather all year round so we need to be in shape almost all year.

When they were being checked-out the following morning (after breakfast), the bill for my English taxpayer friend came to zero but the bill for my visiting tourist friend came to double that amount

You have a way with words, Reg

Reg, it took me forever to finish Anna Karenina but it wasn’t as bad as War and Peace. I don’t like audiobooks.
