To Do or not To Do 9 years agoDavid, perhaps somewhat relevant to thhe issue of “responsibility” in a world where one’s identity (e.g. all moderate Muslims should just openly protest against ISIS barrbarity), perhaps you’d be willing to let ISIS know where they might find you? Wait… maybe it’d be easier to find a different AZ member? (Notice that I haven’t deleted your…[Read more]

Science — the kind that requires evidence and reason. 9 years agoTo learn more about keeping religion out of science classes, visit the National Committee for Science Education at http://www.ncse.com.
(Their URL would be dot org but someone else got it first.)In Dover, PA in 2005, NCSE and ACLU took an xian-majority school board to court and won. The voters then took the xians off the board. PBS did an hour-long…[Read more]

Science — the kind that requires evidence and reason. 9 years agoEric Temple Bell’s four-volume set, “Mathematics: Queen and Servant of Science” impressed me greatly when I read it about sixty years ago while I was earning a degree in mathematics.
However, the queen has lost her throne. She no longer rules mathematics; she serves it. Despite mathematicians’ visions of elegance in their productions, the universe…[Read more] -

To Do or not To Do 9 years agoI would push that button, probably multiple times. Like being impatient waiting for an elevator. The world for a short time would remain as is, but would change. Those of us getting shafted in this our only life by the rich and powerful would declare war and take the stuff the rich people have. The rich would be exactly as they are, greedy as can…[Read more]

“Those of us getting shafted in this our only life by the rich and powerful” Ahh.. another “millennial”. Here is your participation trophy. Sorry, couldn’t resist, I actually disagree with that stereotype.

I am not filthy stinking rich, because I follow the rules in life. I could go steal money like Bernie Madoff, or so many others. I could open a fake charity like the Clintons. I also currently live in a state over run by illegal immigrants. Most employers here have the attitude that they don’t really need to pay squat, because they can always find…[Read more]

To Do or not To Do 9 years ago1. I live in earthquake country (California) where people are accustomed to occasional sudden movements.
2. Pushing the button would deprive theists of their security blanket and they would be too frightened to launch crime waves.
I would push the damn button.

Will it happen in our lifetime?Hopefully not. I agree with many of the posts in the original conversation that expressed the opinion that such a button should not be used. I agree with that opinion in principle, though I think that its use on certain US political leaders could be tempting.
