When I was in college in the late 60’s and early 70’s, that was the heyday of “album rock” when the radios shifted from playing 2.5-3 minute pop tunes to recordings of just about any length. DJ’s were local celebrities and in some cases even nationally, such as “Wolfman” Jack.
Then, the big corporations started buying up the local stations and…[Read more]

@ Robert
According to Rick Beato, it’s about business, the consolidation of radio stations under just several corporate umbrellas, and placing business efficiency over the discovery and cultivation of talented artists.

Is the quest for perfection actually the enemy of perfection?
Technology is killing music. Music is or should be a human activity. Today, Autotune and other tools can make music pretty close to absolutely perfect, which people are not.
Years ago and before Autotune came along, the singer Curtis Salgado said in an interview something like this…[Read more]

Comparing four performances of Money by The Warning. All great, but different.
This one is the most recent from Teatro Metropolitan, a concert that’s about as close to perfectly recorded as a live concert can be:
And now this one from their performance opening for The Foo…[Read more]

A few decades ago, I used to do a 45 minute evening health walk and back then there were Walkman-style players that could play CDs. One of my favorite CD’s to listen to was Nine Inch Nails’ Pretty Hate Machine which didn’t have a filler track on it. Terrible Lie, though, was one of my favorites. Here, Opera Singer Elizabeth Zharoff analyzes a…[Read more]

A sociological explanation of where moral behavior comes of is not an answer to the philosophical question.

I’m sorry, but any highbrow discussion of the philosophical foundations of morality collapses in my mind as soon as the word “foraging” crops up. LOL

I’m curious if you read my discussion above of the difference between not having free will and being insane or having an obsessive-compulsive behavior. If we aren’t free, then what’s the difference between that and someone who truly has no control?

Don-Music has, I think, settled on “23” as his favorite TW song. At one point toward the end it actually makes him tear up a bit. It’s an in-depth analysis of the song.
One thing he notes is something I sensed even though I have zero musicologicsl education is that the song fails to resolve at the end. The last note doesn’t belong to the base…[Read more]

The Teatro Metropolitan looks like a pure live video recording but some trickery is definitely involved. One expert reactor thought he was going crazy because after he noticed that Dany keeps spare picks on her mic stand, it drove him crazy that there were six, then a bit later five, and then six again. That’s when he realized that…[Read more]
