@Unseen, I’m stuck on the “frittering away my last days on Earth” comment you made. Is something up? If so, I’m very sorry to hear it.
1) It depends what you mean by “truly random”. I believe the mathematicians have a very specific definition for that; indeed I believe there are several different classifications of randomness. For ord…[Read more]

@unseen – “For Thomas Jefferson and a neanderthal, and so on back through their evolutionary predecessors, the dinosaurs and amoebae.”
– do people really say that? I don’t think they do. I think the whole argument is a bit “straw man”, and his definitions are all a bit weird. For example, he doesn’t attempt (or maybe he is cut short) to gi…[Read more]

He looked spineless. I think he lost the nomination that moment in Seattle. The GOP and/or Trump will replay that moment over and over. It’s Sanders’ 47% moment.

Belle Rose wrote:@Unseen they were in his face. They were threatening Him. It doesn’t make him “weak.” he was probably scared. He looked scared. But What appalled me was how NO ONE (hello, security?) took the initiative to escort them away. That’s a security guard with muscles, hand cuffs and a radio’s job. Not a poor defenseless old man.

He could have not given up the microphone. What could they have done then? Wrestled with an old man?

@Simonm I can totally relate to your thinking it was a joke. I would have thought that too, before I moved here. I wasn’t aware of his position as an anti-vaccine proponent. Thanks, I think…
It’s a little unnerving discovering you live in a country where Mitt Romney (and his magic undies) is nowhere near the bottom of the barrel.

@Unseen. You can be as dismissive as you like, but for the rest of the world, Trump appears to be a serious contender for the Republican nomination. He’s out there in your shop window, garnering support. I thought we had reached the land of insanity when Mitt and his magic underwear were in the news. Now I see that was only a mild taster.

Species move around, disappearing from where they originally “belonged” and taking up what can only be described as temporary residence somewhere else.
I wasn’t talking about species, I was talking about individual animals. E.g. Zimbabwe is home to X lions. Obviously species as a whole can move, change, and even span multiple cou…[Read more]

@bellerose very likely, Occams Razor proposes the simplest answer is likely to be the correct one. Plus I kind of like the image of @Unseen‘s cat holding a toy in its mouth, staring at Unseen, commanding, “Dance, little boy! Dance and play for me!” in cat-speak.

@Unseen Good topic. We are drafting etc, and can amend rules. The thing to bear in mind are that the rules are to protect the site from abuse and try to let the ads carry the site cost. That’s all we are really trying to achieve.
