Private Eye is a satirical magazine….
April 18, 2025 at 1:17 am #57046Reg,
I sensed as much. However, MAD Magazine shuttered it’s doors in 2019, doubtless because it’s absurdity hit too close to real life.
April 18, 2025 at 1:22 am #57047You can stop worrying if you might be a redneck (Jeff Foxworthy reference for anyone who’s scratching their head) and start worrying about whether you might be a traitor who hates America and deserves to be sitting in an El Salvadoran prison:

April 18, 2025 at 1:30 am #57048Robert,
Well, the Judge is just as presumptuous as Trump if he thinks the U.S. justice system applies to El Salvador.
And if anyone wants poster boys against Trump, they’ve picked some shitty ones with members of Hamas, MS-13, and Tren de Aragua.

The Trump organization admitted the deportation was an admin mistake and they just ignored the court order and then all of a sudden there is a claim the guy was in a gang without any due process.
Atheists are on the shit list, no doubt. I just read unseen’s post. Yeah, no rule of law, just intimidation to bend the knee. My country is disgusting.

Nayib Bukele, El Salvador’s tinpot dictator, is under Trump’s thumb. He’s maintaining a Trump Administration concentration camp for $6 million, not as an expression of El Salvadoran sovereignty.
And if anyone wants poster boys against Trump, they’ve picked some shitty ones with members of Hamas, MS-13, and Tren de Aragua.
The only indisputable crime here is that of deporting people who the Constitution stipulates are owed due process. Kilmar Ábrego García has not been convicted of anything that would void his protected status. Trump claims to be exercising wartime power when we are not at war.
The supposed basis for spiriting him to Trump’s Latin American concentration camp is described by The Guardian as follows:
In 2019, he was detained by police outside a Home Depot in Maryland, with several other men, and asked about a murder. He denied knowledge of a crime and repeatedly denied that he was part of a gang.
He was subsequently put in immigration proceedings, where officials argued they believed he was part of the MS-13 gang in New York based on his Chicago Bulls gear and on the word of a confidential informant.
The unreliability of CI’s is common knowledge. Sometimes what they say is true. Sometimes they make shit up in exchange for favors or for hidden motives of their own. Revenge, for example.
The government, were we not “at war” would have to present a case and give Garcia a chance to defend himself.
April 18, 2025 at 8:52 am #57051Here is another one:
U.S.-born man held for ICE under Florida’s new anti-immigration law.
A friend of mine whose grandchildren are in a school in Az. told me that ICE agents came into the classrooms and removed “4 Mexican looking children”. They also scooped up some native American Indian children. If you wanted your children back, a parent or guardian had to bring ID to the local hall where the children would be waiting for them. The “illegal” white Eastern European children were overlooked. All the kids are between 6 and 10 years old.
April 18, 2025 at 1:06 pm #57052Yeah, we are in Gestapo-type territory already. They are shot-gunning the deportation process.
Also, all the deregulations will have some not-so-good consequences. Let’s see what halting food testing and inspection does to our food exports, not to mention our health. Oh, and I read they are not pursuing cyber-crimes. Digital “assets” are already the wild west. We deregulated the bank securities industry once; we got the 2008 financial meltdown. Let’s chop-up mortgages into vague securities and then trade/insure them, so no one knows what the hell is going on. Just a matter of time till they start dumping toxins into rivers again. And this RFK Jr clown is killing health research programs left and right. I do find it odd that he admitted that his own children were vaccinated. This shit is just a giant set-back and we may not recover. HAMAS, Houthi rebels, Taliban, the huge concern over female Tran athletes in woman’s sports are fucking nothing compared to the damage the orange ass and his “christian” mushroom-dick-lickers are doing.
Meanwhile the once promising but overrated Tesla company is getting its ass handed to itself by Chinese and domestic EV manufacturer (who use LiDAR) that will actually be able to self-drive someday, while the unelected Musk is walking around DC, illegally destroying institutions as congress sits around with thumbs up their asses.
Living the “The South”, I knew there was an immense racist seething going all the way back to the Civil War. Even FDR decided that agriculture and domestic workers were not to benefit from Social Security. And the “colored” hoods were not privy to the low-cost mortgages. Those two decisions alone killed the ability for black people to acquire generational wealth.
April 18, 2025 at 2:17 pm #57053….and…..Stun guns deployed as protesters disrupt Marjorie Taylor Greene’s town hall………..
April 18, 2025 at 2:27 pm #57054Kilmar Abrego Garcia should be freed immediately. Whether or not is is a gang member is irrelevant. He is entitled to “due process”. If not, any citizen can be disappeared in the middle of the night…or at any time of the day. Everyone in the U.S., including those without legal status, have constitutional rights to due process under the Fifth and Fourteenth Amendments. No legal scholars need to be hired. The Law is very clear. Your rights are not dependent on the whims of a would be king.
April 18, 2025 at 2:40 pm #57055Tesla did lead the way with Ev’s. But now I think they just refine their models while China and South Korea are redefining what Ev’s can be. They’re innovating fast and at scale.

He has two additional problems. First, his latest showpiece model, the supposed pinnacle of Tesla automotive engineering, the cybertruck, is coming unglued on the road while sales are restricted or banned.
Second, his close association with Trump and his command and control of DOGE are generating unfriendly policies in the Eurosphere.
April 18, 2025 at 7:29 pm #57057I don’t even think the cybertruck is legal in Europe/UK. If that stupid thing runs into you, you are screwed.
April 18, 2025 at 7:56 pm #57058Reg,
The text of the 14th Amendment reads: “All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof.” That is what makes what happened in Arizona so aggregious. Kilmar Abrego Garcia, however, is neither a natural-born Citizen nor a naturalized Citizen. That’s the sticky wicket.
Fret not, the anti-abortion crowd always flunks on that first clause of the Forteenth.
April 18, 2025 at 7:58 pm #57059Tesla sales have plummeted by over 70% in countries like Germany and Spain. Some Tesla owners have resorted to placing stickers on their vehicles to distance themselves from Musk’s politics, with messages like “I bought this before Elon went crazy.” His alignment with right-wing politics, including his role in Donald Trump’s administration, has alienated traditionally liberal and environmentally conscious customers.
The Cybertruck has a “cyberpunk” aesthetic but it has poor visibility due to it’s small windshield and massive A-pillars, not what you want on a building site or delivery depot. Also, the battery range is not great, especially when towing. It is only for Musk loyalists. Tesla was “new iPhone cool” at one point but Musk has ruined that. That sort of goodwill does not return.
