    @davis, thank you for the explanation.  One thing confuses me.  I realize that some people might want sex with a porn star.  But why would they want to sleep with one?  Are they extra cuddly or something?  I guess everyone needs a nap now and then, but why with a porn star?

    @Daniel W.

    yes I know he’s right. But the truth is that there are a lot of really bad doctors out there. Like the one who got my sister hooked on opioids. He’s now behind bars. Or the doctors who never figured out what was causing my physical pain. (a physiatrist). Or the doctor who never once asked me or said anything about nutrition. All they know is to prescribe medications from a pharmacy. That’s not real medicine. That’s just pill pushing.

    In the US all the “real” medical doctors are in the pockets of the drug companies. They aren’t real doctors either

    This is monstrous over-generalising…and also empirical-based-knowledge bashing. If you use the word “all” then you are referring to thousands of doctors. It cannot possibly be the case that every one of them is so corrupt/nepotistic and so the amount of doctors with low standards must be lower than 100%. You have to be very careful with “all” claims. But, are even 50% of doctors so professionaly failing? 40%? Where is your evidence that so many doctors are like this beyond personal experience and a few exposées on some less than professional doctors? I’ve certainly never read anything that remotely makes that claim. Doctors who get swayed by medicine pusher incentives exist in every country…though in some countries it is a lot harder for pharmaceutical companies to give incentives…but it can happen. Doesn’t mean that it is systemic and leads to a mass failure of doctors to keep their patients healthy and safe.

    As for your empirical-based-knowledge bashing, I’m pretty surprised you’d say this. Doctors make mistakes, doctors will always lack some knowledge, doctors may have to try more than one treatment, and some doctors are overworked/incompetent/unprofessional. A doctor cannot possibly have an unfailing track record. I’ve recovered from severe medical problems (broken back, lung infections, parasites I picked up while traveling) and I wouldn’t be standing here if it weren’t for “real doctors”. The ones who spend up to 7 years of grueling studying, more years of training, more years of specializing and then a long career throughout that whole time…still studying. I’ve been let down by a couple doctors a couple times…and I don’t blame them because in one case they were extremely overworked and in another case: to have tested me for every possible problem I could have had would have had an enormous cost and taken up valuable doctor time. In the end I had a very improbable problem with my stomach that wasn’t tested…and I understood why I wasn’t tested for every improbable problem cause the doctor wouldn’t have been able to see any other patients that day. The track record of “real” doctors protecting patients from getting worse is extremely high. Some unfortunate people are unlucky. And it is statistically inevitable that some people will be very unlucky as you have seemed to be. There is also the problem of patients being responsible for the lack of success on the part of the doctor. But just because a minority are unluky doesn’t mean you should hyper-generalize about doctors in general. It’s a game of probabilities…not absolutes.

    Non “real” medicine like “natural remedies” and “healing ceremonies” and “bone crackling” and Gwenyth Paltrow’s lunacy…have an absolutely abysmal track record. They study for some months and get unaccredited diplomas with no oversight, regulation or even safety studies. They make wild claims, take credit for those who got through, and ignore, cover up or dismiss (or never even know about) the many failures. If I had gone along with non-real medicine and non-real doctors…I would be dead. And if you gave birth to your son before “real” doctors came along…there is a notable probability that one or both of you would have died.

    I didn’t say “all” Davis. The one doctor who really helped me is Canadian though. Just sayin’.

    Without modern medicine my mom would have died so I wouldn’t even be here.

    So what is a person to do if modern medicine has failed you? I’m basically at that point. Natural remedies are my only hope. I don’t give a fuck if there are a lot of good doctors out there. Too little too late.

    Besides @Davis it’s not just my own anecdotal experience.

    And my sister is not alone. In her situation either

    @ Daniel: You’re so right. I’ve had all sorts of doctors. But I’m a romantic. I remember what Mr. Rogers said. He said, “Look for the helpers. They will be there.” Eventually they are. I say that even after I have just washed my hands of another not-so-great medical person. I just keep on keeping on until I find another real helper.

    And @BELLE … the liars and betrayers will in time be washed away and you will find the helpers. Don’t settle for less.
