    Davis,

By your logic, England needs more “common-sense” ice skate legislation:

Legal experts claim ice hockey player who accidentally killed Adam Johnson with his boot blade is ‘unlikely’ to face prosecution – as police say probe into horror incident is ‘ongoing’

    Enco,

Writes: You say you despise Putin, yet you want to negotiate with the asshole when it comes to Ukraine, even though his record regarding Israel and Hamas is decidedly Anti-Israel and Anti-Jewish, even though Jews in Russia oppose Putin’s invasion of Ukraine, even though President Zelenskyy in Ukraine is Jewish, and even though this latest Anti-Jewish rampage in the Russian jurisdiction of Makhachkala, Dagestan linked above happened under Putin’s happy and willing watch!

I am not in the least interested in being the negotiator. YES i do. You could go on endlessly with even though(s) and my answer would be the same. Patterns, rat on a wheel destructive historical patterns, ought to be examined in light of the abyss just ahead of us. Lives ought to be given greater value than ideology and faux patriotism/principles.

Enco, one guy, who wasn’t wearing a neck guard, died. It is being thoroughly investigated, and ALREADY my ice hockey team (just last night) mandated neck guards and being more careful while skating and a review of other equipment. We had a thorough discussion about it and will have a later discussion on a zero violence policy in our matches

As you can see, the response is PROACTIVE. The idea isn’t LESS NECKGUARDS, MORE RECKLESS PROBLEMS, IGNORING THE ISSUE, KEEPING THE OLD WAYS

but changing we way we approach things, even if there was only one fatality. In ‘Murica, it is daily deadly shooting rampages and for some:

    MORE GUNS!

You really like comparing two completely different, if not incomparable things, as though they are equivalent and then make impossible conclusions based on them. I am very happy living in a country where I genuinely never have to worry about stupid reckless dishits and their stupid dipshit guns. You can also enjoy the same if your country put their marbles back in their heads.

    Autumn,

But these humans, given what we know, were no more likely than you to lynch anyone on that particular day. Well, no more likely than me. I have my doubts about you.

So you say that someone like me who hates lynch mobs is a lynch mobber??? What Universe do you live in??? Again, fuck you!

I am saying you’re someone who is irrational, bigoted, and often promotes violent “self-defence” as a solution. So between me, you, and the protestors, you’re probably the closest to a lynch mob mentality.

It seems to me that guns are a part of a wider issue, which is that you can control people when a) they live in fear, and b) they’re indoctrinated with obedience.

We get the obedience indoctrination from the religions; enough said there.

The fear is created by a combination of health insecurity, financial shortages, and cultivated negativity towards the peer group.  A trivialisation of education quality simply enables fear to pervade further.

The guns enable the fearful public to look at their neighbours and countrymen as a threat, or as the enemy, in order to channel their fear into a sort of self persuaded control over things that are not controllable by the individual.

So we see Enco defending his 2nd amendment because he too, is in this same entanglement. He sees his countrymen as potential enemies.

And there needs to be something to

Strega it looks as though your text saw a gun and was afraid to finish her thoughts.

I assume anybody who has worked with the public and seen the nasty and ugly side of humans and how quickly a situation can turn deadly is more open to the idea of having guns on their person for defense.

Enco has that libertarian religion so the idea of regulating guns is anathema. When i was practicing law my partner and i seriously contemplated it. We both got death threats. Never followed through. But i understand the impetus and would not begrudge anyone who is in a dangerous place or being threatened.

Thanks Jake. I was going to say that to address the overarching issue, I think fixing the health system would have massive positive repercussions inasmuch as medical liability insurances and workers comp stuff would be a fraction of what they are now, and a huge fear block would be lifted.

Then I think tackling the gun issues might be a viable exercise.

(picked up my kid from school and she grabbed my phone to play tunes, so I guess she hit ‘enter’ first!)

    Welcome Strega.

No question SECURITY in terms of economic well being and personal access to health care would ameliorate the gun climate greatly.

I am glad to see that you at least recognize and empathize with my position better than the “Never-been-lonely-Never-been-lied-to-Never-had-something-to-fear-Nothing-denied-to” crowd that saturates the opposite side of this issue.

I, in turn, understand and empathize with this statement of yours:

Lives ought to be given greater value than ideology and faux patriotism/principles.

I firmly agree. Where we differ is that I hold sapient life so important, that I can never see giving an inch to life-enslaving, life-destroying ideologies such as Putin’s and Dugin’s Revanchism, Emperor Xi’s Neo-Maoism, and Hamas’ and Hezbollah’s Islamism.

And Libertarianism isn’t a religion for me. If another worldview shared it’s ideals and achieved them better, I’d jump right on it.

(I’ll say right off that the eponymous political Party is an embarrassing wheel-spinner. Guys! Save the Chippendale dancers, the bong sessions, and the boot-hats for the victory shindig! We have a nation and a world to save!)

    Ok Enco.

Ya know where people are utterly fucked? North Korea.

Ya know the humanitarian crisis is producing outcries from crickets whose chorus is heard by nobody, no how. If you listen ever so quietly and stay perfectly still the crickets whisper it is the Jews, the Jews. And that is the news. I paid my dues. Thought i was gonna lose. But i hit the pick 5 so i stayed alive. Life continued as it typically does and nobody cares who ever was…

Strega hit the nail on this. Fear is big business. Some of it is even justified and plays a part in an endless circle.

Very true. North Korea’s problem is Juche, not Jewish. It is the worship of The Holy Kim Trinity that keeps them isolated from the rest of the world except for Russia and Red China who give them arms and nuke tech.

And Kim Worship domestically makes the NORK citizen-subjects so impoverished that they are reduced to using grass and each other as Communist Communion.

I paid my dues. Thought i was gonna lose. But i hit the pick 5 so i stayed alive. Life continued as it typically does and nobody cares who ever was…

Next time, you might do better investing in lightning rod firms. The chances of a lightning strike are greater than winning Pick 5. And if we ever start construction of new dwellings again, the dividend stream could turn into a gusher.

Enco, in re N. Korea everything i have read and the escapees i have listened to paint a kafkaesque picture that is so grim that i want to puke. The failure to hear any outcry or do anything to help is not surprising. Humans are so easily led. Selective and directed outrage is the rule.

I imagine your understanding of pick 5 is lottery related. I was being autobiographic. My gambling day was saved bcuz i hit a pick 5 which means 5 consecutive winners of horse races.
