Andrew BrownParticipantLots of great points!
The New Emperor doesn’t like to be questioned, thus burn the old empire and history away so we can forge a new world.
This reset happened across many civilizations and every library burned equated to 1000s of lifetimes worth of research and discovery lost to the ego of brutes.
We made great strides over the last century and I plan to continue the journey as far as we can go before the Cosmic Dice Roll resets the Earth again!

Andrew BrownParticipantI see your point about the declaration being difficult and everyone is free to choose their family and public persona.
I’m referring to the intellectual step. It’s easy to declare someone else wrong! But now I should justify my position, at least to myself…likely in my personal journal.

Andrew BrownParticipantWe don’t have a choice in the matter! I am that I am!
Consciousness is fuzzy at best. We say humans are conscious, but that’s debatable 🙂 Are dogs conscious? They bark at the mirror until they realize it is themselves. Are spiders conscious? How could we even investigate it? Are rocks conscious? Same problem as spiders… Some people claim atoms are conscious and as a being made of atoms, I figure a large enough group of them can become conscious.
Does it even matter at all? Our homoerectus ancestors probably cared little for the discussion. Live your life as you see fit, find happiness and love your life.

Andrew BrownParticipantWe atheists agree prayer is a purely personal experience and wishing for things doesn’t make them true. Focusing on an idea and praying about it daily will condition one to make progress towards the goal. Prayer is the mechanism by which Christians change the world. If you want to change the world, change yourself.
Meditation and prayer allow the practitioner to condition their own mind; a powerful technique indeed.

Andrew BrownParticipantHypocrisy abounds in humanity. There is also the fact that few Christians ever read the bible, even fewer try to understand it further than the simple gloss over interpretations of pastors, and even fewer truly understand it as a morality myth then become atheists.

Andrew BrownParticipantThou shalt not kill is explicit.
Jesus, as a human, understood that killing is wrong in all circumstances. The person killing you is wrong to kill you, yet you are still wrong to kill your attacker. If you can’t stop them with words and they lay hands upon you to injure you, you must abide as this is God’s will.
Jesus would not raise a fist or ask his followers to use violence because he truly believed killing is wrong and killing in self defense is also wrong.
A similar message was understood by many of the Jewish victims of the holocaust. Many refused to use violence to stop violence.Note: Let’s not get into a debate about Jesus as a man, I am speaking of Jesus as the character.

Andrew BrownParticipantYou’re correct, the common notion of God (Abrahamic concept) is impossible.
Good thing there is more than one concept. Julius Caesar was a great God after all.

Andrew BrownParticipantIf we both agree that a god must exist outside of the natural world then how do you communicate with each other? What medium do you have to interpret what god is saying to you? God communicates to me in my thoughts and through other people. I think there is strength in numbers and the more people are praying the more things happen that show God is real. Do you think a supernatural belief system leave people better equipped to deal with the problem of life in the natural world? I think we need both a worldview that embraces science and scientific discoveries, but also – science only has so many answers. I’ve certainly seen that with me and my son. If theists have none all I ask is for them to be honest and admit they take it on faith. It is on faith
Belle, have you ever considered that you are the God to whom you are speaking? Maybe God is not outside of us, but inside of us just as Luke states, The Kingdom of God is in Man, not one man, not a group of men, but in all of us.
By having the divine travel with you wherever you go, you are one with the divinity, not apart from it.September 1, 2017 at 4:19 pm #4484
Andrew BrownParticipantDisobeying the law makes you a traitor?
Legal does not equate to Ethical. I will flout the law when it is necessary. I am not a traitor, I am a human who understand morality better than a body politic. I like to walk on grass, the sign requests that I don’t, but I am a human making a decision and the law does not match my wish. Am I a criminal? Am I a traitor? Should I lose my freedom?
Revolutionaries must be wicked people in your opinion. The founding fathers were criminals and traitors to the King’s Law because they had a superior law; Live Free or Die.
I don’t see “God’s Law” as superior since it is frozen in 600BC; we have made some progress towards legal equality.
I do see “My Law” as superior America’s Law because I know what is right in my opinion and I may have to spend time in jail for my decisions but those are my decisions.June 30, 2017 at 7:31 pm #3418
Andrew BrownParticipantTJ, I mostly agree. This is in the Theist section and I recently completed a 6 week Church group series (my step father invited me so I indulged him) called, “Who Needs God?” by Northpoint Ministries (http://northpoint.org/whoneedsgod).
Interesting series going through Atheism, different God concepts, Jesus’ ideas on God, then ultimately accepting God. I had some problems with the assertions, but I was so happy to have a face to face conversation with well educated (a few engineers and scientists) Christians.
This post is how I define God while speaking with believers mostly due to their immediate dismissal of a world without God. I found myself ending conversations before they got anywhere interesting by not being capable to saying, “Some sort of God could exist.” The above God definition is almost identical to defining “nature” or the “how of nature.”
See any definition of God which you could say, “That is possible”?

Andrew BrownParticipantThe Trump presidency is doing two things particularly well. 1. His horrific behaviour is motivating the young to understand and engage with politics even if just to resist. They are far more likely to vote going forward. 2.. He is putting the checks and balances in the structure of the American system to test – paving the way for potential future reform and improvement.
Good point! Obama put us to sleep. We all trusted that handsome, articulate man. He was able to blind us to the ugly truths.
The spite of Trump brings all of the shady Obama shit to light and the people finally recognize the problem is not Left vs Right but Rich vs Not Rich.June 27, 2017 at 6:44 pm #3386
Andrew BrownParticipantThe idea of artificial selection is such a misnomer. We are part of nature just like everything else. Everything is natural evolution. Whatever we decide to do is part of the natural cycle as we are not apart from it. Humans are evolving just as everything else in the Cosmos is evolving.
The national parties are bought and owned by the mega donors; USA was founded on this idea of the rich governing the poor.
Until we get money out of politics, BTW it is possible and there are multiple pathways, we will have a corrupt government which fails to respond to the general population.June 27, 2017 at 5:39 pm #3385
Andrew BrownParticipantAs always, such a shame to see Islamic culture has fallen so far from the roots.
From what I have read, it seems like the original Islamic culture was more aligned towards the enlightenment values of philosophy and scientific investigation.June 27, 2017 at 5:20 pm #3384
Andrew BrownParticipantAgree with Strega. I am not a lawyer and know there are far too many laws for me to know the answer.
Regardless of the law, from my personal POV I say the mother committed the crime of forgery on an official document and should be handled through the civil court, not criminal court.

Andrew BrownParticipantFor the sake of conversation, I will assume the referenced threat occurred while the father passes the mother and child.
I am unable to make a positive claim either way as I am not close enough to hear the threat. I would suggest the officer confirm with the others in ear shot.Women beaters are no longer fit for society and women know it; makes it easier for women to use the justice system against their abuser.
