Science — the kind that requires evidence and reason. 9 years, 5 months agoEric Temple Bell’s four-volume set, “Mathematics: Queen and Servant of Science” impressed me greatly when I read it about sixty years ago while I was earning a degree in mathematics.
However, the queen has lost her throne. She no longer rules mathematics; she serves it. Despite mathematicians’ visions of elegance in their productions, the universe…[Read more] -

PopeBeanie started the topic Mobile vs Desktop Issues in the forum
Atheist Zone 9 years, 5 months agoThis is just a heads-up wrt considering whether each issue discussed should be written with attention to desktop vs mobile pages.
For example, I would like to someday see nested (multi-level threaded) replies, but how they should be displayed will depend (at least) on the user’s screen size. One needs to see several posts at once to visualize a…[Read more]

PopeBeanie replied to the topic How do I upload a photo from my computer to a forum post? in the forum
Atheist Zone 9 years, 5 months agoAnother option is to upload as a photo to you personal page, which assigns it to an URL on wp you can use. More details later, pending Umar’s final solution.

Atheist Zone 9 years, 5 months agoCan we have a group dedicated to people that play “Hellion”? I play often, but alone. It is better played as a team. Unable to find anyone that plays though.

Atheist Cats 9 years, 5 months agoGetting ready for the move down to Georgia with my cat. Going to be drugging her to keep her calm. She is a Maine Coon and very much a narcissist. She took a swipe at our dog because I dared feed the dog first.

Did you make the move? I drove from Cleveland to Portland, OR with my cat in a cage next to me. No sedatives. She just slept most of the day just like she does at home. She actually seemed to enjoy the evenings in the hotels, sitting in the windows looking at the goings on outside.I was torn between putting her in cargo as I flew across the…

Atheist Cats 9 years, 5 months agoWe’re lucky with our girls, they get along most of the time.
We used to raise malemute/siberian huskies, & sometimes wish we’d get another one.

Atheist Cats 9 years, 5 months agoWe have four – and the dog. The dog thinks she’s a top cat, the top cat thinks he’s a dog. The two females detest each other so much, one gets shut in the library from 5pm to 9am and the other is locked in the bedroom between 9am and 5pm. The fourth cat is a fluffy boy who ‘marches to the beat of his own drum’ and leaves tumbleweed hairy…[Read more]

It is a beautifully written math book. I view math as a language that helps us to understand and communicate about the universe, but yeah…an incorrect assertion about the universe can be wrong, even if all the math is correct.
