I think there is a tendency to impute malicious intent in all of his actions. But maybe that Sam Harris metaphor of Trump and the balloon going willy nilly as the air is released is a better representation.

He didn’t tell them so much that they were wrong to be doing what they were doing as to tell them to stand down (but be ready to riot again on command). He reiterated the falsehood that the election was stolen which, unfortunately, I think he actually believes. He’s not behind this situation:  He has advisors and Putin whispering in his ear.

Hypothetically, imagine Trump has the power to use magic to become the dictator of the U S of Trump but half a million Americans will die in the insurrection. Will he use the magic?

He told rioting vandals and terrorists to go home but “We love you.” Am I totally irrational to read a “stand down” into that? I don’t think so. He can’t magically make himself President but he could invoke war powers or declare a state of emergency, using martial law to suspend the Constitution, and as a Poli Sco prof once explained, since that would be illegal, the likelihood of getting a constitutional government back would be slim since the President would be open to prosecution, imprisonment, and possibly even execution.

It’s a shit show inside a train wreck inside a clusterfuck. I heard that in private McConnell is livid at Trump for in the course of four years losing the presidency, losing the Senate, and losing the respect and trust of the United States on the world scene. Despite appearances, nobody is happier to see Trump gone, even if it means handing the helm of the Senate over to Chuck Schumer.

McConnell actually gave an eloquent defense of the constitutional process of peaceful transition today, cautioning Cruz and his ilk that what they planned to engage in is dangerous. It turned out, his speech was prescient.

For the time being, hopefully things will settle down here, and we’ll reestablish our status in the world. Until then, I guess Germany assumes the role of Free World leadership.

As a bit of foreground for my comments, I’ve been getting into the world of TV Streaming since the Holidays and am enjoying both Netflix and PlutoTV.

PlutoTV has many commentary channels, including a channel that normally had pro-Trump voices NewsMaxTV.   Commenters on “Spicer &Co.” are condemning the Pro-Trumpers storming the Capital Building.  They said if Antifa/BLM rioters were wrong, the Trumpistas are equally wrong in doing this too.

Glad to see somebody is looking past the various ‘Doxies out there to talk some sense.

I may not like Sleepy, Creepy, Crazy Corn-Pop Joe any more than I like the Big-Thumbed, Stable Genius Twitter Twit OrangeMan, but this little attempt at a MAGA Hat, MyPillow, Trumpy Bear Putsch cannot lead to anything good.

The whole thing strikes me as more comical than imminently dangerous. The larger danger might be how these people party together and collude in the future. Most of Cult 45 believe Trump’s declaration that they won and were cheated, and that, imo, puts them into the category of Funny Farm personalities.

I’m also betting that the FBI’s going to be watching a lot of them closely, including Trump. He might just be narcissistic and deluded enough to do something really stupidly scheming and get caught at it. Antics of his cult following could become a major liability for him. I just hope that people like the Mercers and Bannon don’t fund and steer him again into a better planned out strategy, because they are the smarter ideologues.

I took the rare moment to watch Fox News’ coverage, and I’m favorably impressed by almost everyone speaking against the violence, and saying that Trump instigated it and shouldn’t shroud his message in that “violence is bad but we still love you and yeah, they stole our election” refrain. I was half expecting Fox to make things worse, but they didn’t, at least not today.

Antifa did riot in other cities nationwide..  The Capitol Building would have been a matter of time and may be yet.  Any coming Civil War II is young after all.
