When Musk’s politics were given voice and he latched onto making a difference, I said “I smell an oligarch around the corner”. I really hope MAGA sees their error, and we can all focus on the midterms.

December 21, 2024 at 11:35 pm #55571Fuck around and find out, as they say. And the GOP will find out, I predict, in the midterms and in the next presidential election.
Immigrant workers are already going back into the woodwork rather than risk deportation, and the Republican dream of taking everyone off entitlements like Medicare and Medicaid and forcing them to accept the vacant jobs will prove totally unworkable.

December 22, 2024 at 12:00 am #55573They real plan is to privatize social security/medicare and get that money into the stock market. So first they have to screw it up and then they will get away with it. America is dumber than a box of hammers.

Hopefully, dumb as they are, it will become undeniable that the food shortages, restaurant closures, increasing rents, and rampant inflation can no longer be laid at Biden’s doorstep, and that, yes, electing Trump was a HUGE mistake.
I think we already see Republican legislators turning on Trump and being willing to stand up to him despite his threats to primary them. The GOP majority in the House is razor thin, and depending on the count on a particular day, just three or four Republican defectors can get Democrat legislation passed.
Trump, who wants always to look powerful and commanding, is probably running out of tolerance for playing Veep to President Musk. I think Elon’s days may be numbered. I’m sure Elon is hated by almost everyone in Trump’s posse and the moment Donald shows any lack of patience for him, the attacks will begin.
Of course then…we’ll still have Trump to deal with.

December 25, 2024 at 4:09 am #55601December 25, 2024 at 9:39 am #55602Legislative confusion in Texas over banning or permitting sexually explicit material in school libraries. (Hint: Bible, yay or nay?)
December 25, 2024 at 1:17 pm #55603These idiotic Texans in charge have no idea what their so-called bible or the US Constitution represents. Big state with small thinkers.
December 25, 2024 at 11:45 pm #55604The thing about his guitars is that, if they are anything like his watches, they are far less valuable than their price tag would indicate.
Plus, if you’re going to emulate a Gibson guitar go all the way. You see, while his guitars look like Gibsons, having the single cutaway body desoign and dual humbucker pickups, then make them with a set (glued in) neck, not a bolted on neck, which is more the hallmark of a Fender guitar.
Plus, for a “Made in America” kind of guy, there’s a strong indication that these are Chinese-made. If they’re made in America, he certainly isn’t bragging about it.
Well-made, eminently playable “Chibson” (Chinese Gibson knockoffs) can be had for between $100 and $200 on Amazon, with set, not bolt-on necks, dazzling finishes, and sounding just like real Gibsons.
I have yet to read a player’s review of a Trump Guitar, probably because nobody wants to spend that kind of money on a guitar that would probably be worth less than $200 were it not for the association with Trump and may even turn out to be trash.
December 26, 2024 at 2:56 am #55605The schmuck doesn’t even play guitar. But it is hard to figure out if Trump of Musk is the better dancer of the pair. The whole convention was getting down to that gay anthem “YMCA”….so clueless.
December 26, 2024 at 3:51 pm #55606When I first heard “YMCA” at a MAGA rally, I thought it was being played as part of some weird ‘anti-woke’ campaign. Later I realized they had no idea about the history of the song. When I saw a bunch of red MAGA hatters dancing to it and giving it the double fist pump routine, I literally fell off the chair in laughter. No doubt Trump cannot string a guitar but he sure can string his audience along.
December 26, 2024 at 5:47 pm #55607I don’t know if it’s still true, but the YMCA used to offer dormitory-type accommodations for males along with gym facilities, a swimming pool and a locker room with attached shower. For gays, it was kind of a meat market, in the colloquial sense. And the facility offered closed doors behind which they could get to know each other better.
BTW, if you bring up the song’s lyrics, there are fifteen references to men or boys and not one to females.

However, the writer of the lyrics has recently said that it’s not a gay anthem. He gets annoyed when people say it is.

It definitely IS a gay anthem, adopted by the gays as such, whether he likes it or not. BTW, why is he annoyed? Is he homophobic? Because of the gays the song lives on.
December 27, 2024 at 1:20 am #55610You can tell from their outfits that it is a completely heterosexual themed song. I am going to impress my girlfriend by playing it on a loop.
