Again, this is the kind of stuff that encourages hatred of philosophy as empty egg-headedness.

I think it’s ordinary straightforward philosophy.  It would interest some people.

Robert, Here is the video I referenced linked on The Hill: https://x.com/MarkGoldfeder/status/1912283082364998131

Yeah, I know, but Harvard already settled the discrimination case with pro-semitic provisions and a five-year plan.

Marc Kasowitz of Kasowitz Benson Torres, LLP, counsel for Students Against Antisemitism said “This resolution includes specific, meaningful actions to combat antisemitism, hate and bias on college campuses that illustrate the University’s strong commitment to further protecting their Jewish and Israeli community. I commend them for taking these steps and encourage others to follow their lead.”

Trump is jumping on this, because he has all those evangelicals to please.  He’s turning the Iranian sponsored malfeasance at Harvard into another anti-woke shit-show instead of dealing with Iran like he promised. Hey, we all know anti-woke nonsense is way more important than having a democracy, a free market economy, an educated public or rule of law.

I would love to see Trump go after all those bastions of right-wing politics. Otherwise known as churches. Tax those assholes already. And they don’t contribute to knowledge at all. In fact, they are brain drains.

He doesn’t have to be such a dick about it.  I’m no fan of the excesses of woke puritan zealotry, but we can just draw a line and move on, that would be OK.  I don’t feel like crushing them to death and dancing on the bits.

Everything Trump is doing sets a precedence and becomes normalized. Harvard is just one aspect on the attack on education. It may seem partially righteous now, but more is to come.

Oklahoma just passed a state resolution that “Christ is King”.

    https://www.okhouse.gov/posts/news-20250418_1

“This resolution is a bold testament to Oklahoma’s faith-based legacy,” Olsen said. “During Holy Week, we honor the sacrifice of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and reaffirm the principles that guide our state. I’m proud to lead this effort to declare ‘Christ is King’ and call upon the help of the ‘Supreme Judge of the World.'”

Here we go. They are emboldened because of Trump and his crazy “speaking in tongues” spiritual leader. Science, books, education, atheists, and immigrants are all bad now.

Watched the video. Was dumbfounded at the Nazi (or Naziesque) palm-down salutes.

    Robert,

Here’s the press release you forgot to link:

Students Against Antisemitism and Kasowitz Benson Torres Announce Settlement of their Lawsuit Against Harvard
    https://www.kasowitz.com/media/client-news/students-against-antisemitism-and-kasowitz-benson-torres-announce-settlement-of-their-lawsuit-against-harvard/

As part of this settlement with Students Against Antisemitism, which includes monetary terms, Harvard has not admitted to any wrongdoing or liability. Plaintiff Alexander (Shabbos) Kestenbaum declined to join this settlement and continues to pursue his claims against Harvard, represented by new counsel.

Harvard still doen’t concede it did anything wrong, and, of course, still got dragged before Congress, And none of this is to mention Columbia and every other Ivy League “Gentlemen’s Agreement” University.

Trump is jumping on this, because he has all those evangelicals to please. Trump and Evangelicals aren’t the ones who were threatened by campus thugs and there is still time to re-sanction the mullahs as long as they don’t build nukes. Too bad Obama and Biden gave them a head start.

And yes, get rid of all 501 c(3)s and maybe everyone will get mad enough to get rid of the income tax entirely.

Stopping Academic Antisemites and stopping Christian Theofascists are perfectly cromulent to do at the same time.

Their line didn’t allow for Western Civilization, much less America, Jews, or Israel.

Enco, i am torn betwen a requirement for Muslims before becoming US citizens. Should they be required to spit, urinate or defecate on their Quran?

And to all of the White bread ivy league students majoring in middle eastern studies and crying dodger blue for the Palestinians. Mandatory visits into the bowels of death cult hell. Encourage them to EXPRESS themselves when on their little enlightening sojourn. Ok we may sacrifice a few citizens thusly but it is for the greater good. But yeah. Free Palestine, bitches!

I think it’s ordinary straightforward philosophy. It would interest some people.

Posing a question and then saying that the answer is impossible to communicate, as Nagel does, is just intellectual self-lobotomizing. At least give the best evidence-based attempt at an answer and auto-correct when more evidence arises.

I like the word “cromulent.” It sounds like an adjective resulting from adding seasoned bread crumbs or cookie crumbs to complete a tasty entree or dessert.

Speaking of “The Big Bang”, when I first heard the term “Big Crunch” from the mouth of Berke Breathed’s child prodigy Oliver Wendell Jones in the comic strip “Bloom County,” I thought it was just something Berke made up for laughs. Turns out it’s a real Cosmological hypothesis:

Billions of years from now, the river, the sea, Palestine, Israel, and the rest of The Pale Blue Dot could be closer together than many would like.

It’s already forbidden for immigrants claiming asylum to be members of totalitarian parties or to engage in persecution themselves. We see how this is working out with our ill-enforced immigration system.

They probably already sense it on campuses, or if they’ve been to Battle Creek or Hamatramck, Michigan. Or they may never learn until a Jihadi wants to get ahead in this life and the next life. No “greater good” in any event.

    cromulent

Umm, you know, I have a far larger vocabulary than the average American, yet I had to run to the dictionary.

A little advice: if you want to be a smart communicator and not just a narcissistic egghead show off, use the common vocabulary.

The dictionary gives several synonyms: fine, acceptable or normal; excellent, realistic, legitimate or authentic. Please look at those and explain what “cromulent” expresses that isn’t captured by any one of those.

    Come back down to Earth.
