    Strega,

Give hegemony to far left/Islamists the Islamists execute the socialist/lefties as they did in Iran in 1979.

A war would ensue between the various Muslim sects to determine top dog. Excellent chance they’d all agree to complete the final solution. I am not going to elaborate on the horrors of Islam. I think to one degree or another we are all aware of how degenerate a Muslim theocracy is.

I suppose it is hard to extrapolate exactly what Trump wants. Even in the light least favorable to Trump i doubt it would be as vile as the living anachronism of patriarchy, sharia law, treatment of minorities, gays and women, the glorification of death, the cheapness of life, the violence endemic in the culture.

If Mahmoud and his ilk got their wish those proclivities would only be exacerbated.

Trump as dictator? Lets see. I would imagine execution for criticism of himself. Certainly a diminution in our cherished bill of rights. Elizabethan star chamber on steroids? I don’t see concentration camps for Muslims or lefties or whoever the Christian right despise. Deportations? Sure. Execution in some cases? Sure.

Invade other nations without cause? A modern Alexander? i doubt it. I guess it is speculative as it can be. But we know what Islam is. And were it in control of the world as its champions seek it would blow away any dystopian novel.

    @Reg

Not many of the people who are asking for the normal rules of warfare to be adhered to by Israel in Gaza so as to stop what seems to be a genocidal campaign are not pro-Hamas. They are not pro-rape or pro-torture. Don’t be absurd.

Israel has become a right-wing authoritarian country which keeps friendlier company with other authoritarian regimes than with Western Democracies. Which countries does the Netanyahu government count as friends?

…(T)he current Israeli government has been deepening its ties with China and Russia. They have also re-established ties with an increasingly authoritarian Recep Tayyip Erdogan, and whitewashed Azerbaijan’s atrocity crimes in Armenia. In short, the current Israeli government appears to be prioritizing its relationships with autocracies over respect for human rights. (source)

And now one can add the authoritarian Trump and Orban (Hungary) regimes. That’s the company Netanyahu keeps.

If someone is advocating for raping or torturing or murdering anyone, Jewish or not, the university should expel them. If they’re here on a visa, revoke it. However, if they’re protesting Israel’s inhumane and/or genocidal policies, the First Amendment must cover that even if they are visa-bearing visitors and not citizens.

Authoritarianism goes so well with the religious societies. A belief in a god or ‘superior’ entity and a belief in Dear Leader are really not all that far apart. If you’re already worshipping a god, it’s not a huge pivot to worshipping a leader.

    Unseen,

Netanyahu is not getting out of this unscathed, no matter how the war in Gaza ends.

October 7 happened on Netanyahu’s watch and his Mossad had a 9/11 scale failure of imagination not to foresee it. Given the history of the Jews, the last thing an agency dedicated to protection of Israel should have is a failure of imagination. In the words of a famous American Zionist President: “The Buck Stops Here.”

Russia and China both support Iran and its Hamas and Hezbollah proxies, so cutting ties with the “CRI” part of the “CRINK” axis should indeed be part of Israel’s war. The Turkish Ottoman genocide against Armenia was an inspirtion for Hitler, so cutting ties with Turkey and strenthening tie with Armenia until Turkey finally acknowledges the Armenian genocide should be a big policy priority for Israel.

And I’m still here to say this, uncancelled and untargeted by the Mossad, so see? It is possible to criticize Israeli officials and Israeli policies without being anti-Israel or anti-Jewish.

    Reg,

The recent years have taken a lot out of Douglas Murray, as it has all of us. He’s went grey quickly. I just hope he doesn’t lose that Promethean fire like too many cultural commentators have.

The first sentence if my prior post was a run on disaster, so I thank you—especially Enco—for giving it the intended reading not the literal meaning opposite to my intention.

    To wit:

Not many of the people who are asking for the normal rules of warfare to be adhered to by Israel in Gaza so as to stop what seems to be a genocidal campaign are not pro-Hamas.

I could have given it ts intended meaning modifying it at the beginning or end, but I did neither. It should have been two sentences anyway.

    Unseen,

The article from The Forward you cited wasn’t accurate for saying that Netanyahu and Erdogan are cozy. Not according to this:

Turkey and Israel hold talks to avoid accidental conflict in Syria
    https://apnews.com/article/israel-turkey-syria-conflict-talks-447f81a8eff6e1bb81b85dca0b7c6034

Also, between this story and Trump’s tariff’s against Israel, Trump is evidently cozier with Erdogan than Netanyahu is with either:

Netanyahu this week sought to hear support from his ally President Donald Trump on a country Israel perceives as increasingly hostile. Instead, Trump lavished praise on Erdogan for “taking over Syria,” positioned himself as a possible mediator between the countries and urged Netanyahu to be “reasonable” in his dealings with Turkey.

What’s more, unless something isn’t done to end this revolting development, since Turkey is a NATO member, if Turkey and Israel clashed, the U.S. and Europe could be treaty-bound to side with Turkey. Maybe the U.S. and Europe would be also be treaty-bound to be eunuchs for Vizier Erdogan and Ottoman Empire 2.0.

Whether it’s Turkey or Turkiye, Istanbul or Constantinople, I say “Stop The World I Want to Get Off.”

    Authoritarianism.

It not only goes with religious societies. It is the sine qua non, the little engine, the clarion call, the marionette to the puppet.

If Islam is successful in its objective to attain world domination it won’t be as it has been historically via the sword. (Am hoping Israel/USA blast the nuclear weapons of Iran or its antecedents to kingdom come. There is a chance Iran can become a democracy after a revolution thereby stabilizing the middle east somewhat. Tremendous discontent among the citizens and a religious cadre of Islamists are behind the oppression of the Iranian citizens and the terrorist network that seeks the annihilation of the Jewish state. No way Israel can permit them to get locked and loaded. Art of the deal guy hopefully wont F things up.)

It will be through propaganda and the appeal of authoritarianism. It will be enabled by our failure to have a C T shield. The way ivy league students, and the intelligentsia of the far left (feel stupid using that word!) repeat the mantras that are the mythology of the religion of Jew hatred is in essence a result of authoritarianism. (BTW that is the historical terminology before the word antisemitism was coined by a German in i think 1879 and it becamely widely adopted to describe the general hatred and discrimination, oppression that was endemic in Germany.)

I gotta lot to say but F it. Oh btw Enco i agree on your assessment that your critique of Israel is not antiS. It is so easy to distinguish those who are repeating the mantra mindlessly and practicing lefty Jew hatred and those who are doing what Enco did. My biggest criticism of Israel is their failure to counter the propaganda and religion of Jew hatred.

    Jake,

It will be through propaganda and the appeal of authoritarianism. It will be enabled by our failure to have a C T shield.

What’s a C T shield? Is it made of Vibranium or Adamantium and makes all who oppose it yield?

    #56999

I think the C T shield is composed of neurons.

Roughly 86 billion per shield, whether defective or effective.

“Median person mentally and morally very limited” and yet it is an experiment that ought to be conducted. Construction of C T shields begin! Lets suppose it is one percent of the population that think well. Maybe it doubles or triples given the training and ameliorates the woefully deficient and otherwise insufficient? That might make a difference not only in the individual lives but in the ethos.

Instead of a pendulum effect against the extreme ideology of the far left perhaps there is a more moderate reaction. People won’t fall for a demagogue to same extent they have? Morally we begin to care about more than Israel and Palestine? The intelligence, ethics and policies of individual candidates are paramount? No criminals or traitors need apply! The pernicious impact of identity politics ends as identity politics is discredited? In its place an emphasis on the commonality of all humans and a soft ideology that posits the kumbaya on one big human tribe. Instead of shameless media on the left and right that are utterly lacking in integrity a more balanced and traditional journalism emerge?

Did anyone catch Maher on Real Time regarding his visit with Trump? Did Maher get played or did he see an authentic aspect of Trump’s personality?

    Jake,

The non-metaphorical CTs are necessary for screening for disorders, as non-metaphoical CT shields are necessary to prevent related harm. My Rx is perhaps a different metaphor is needed.

I watched Maher’s commentary about his visit to the White House. I was surprised by it but will decide once I catch the full show later, including the Overtime section with Steve Bannon.
