USAID has been a very successful. The goodwill generated by this ‘soft power’ has earned the USA much respect around the world. And rightfully so. Pulling the plug without warning will mean a lot of people will suffer from lack of medicines and food in many countries. 60 plus years of goodwill will be wiped out.
I know someone who spent the last year working on an investment project with venture capital of $300 million in N.C.
Yesterday they decided to invest it in Hong Kong instead.

The GOP is in the business of installing a small, white, Christian Evangelical, isolationist federal government that provides little service to the poor and eliminates the remaining tax-burden levied on large corporations and billionaires. This makes blonde, blue-eyed Jesus very happy.
February 4, 2025 at 8:50 pm #56070I think the current USAID spend is 0.35% of 1% of GNP. The loss of goodwill (if you treat it as a balance sheet asset) will cost a lot most. Capital Expenditure is treated as an investment, not a “waste of money expense”. Goodwill is the interest generated from that. USAID accounts for about 42% of the annual UN humanitarian relief aid. I wonder is it because so much of it goes to African nations that it is being slashed? I will verify my figures later…..
February 4, 2025 at 9:43 pm #56071From a non-profit aid group in Africa…..a gag order from the US State Department accompanied the international aid freeze, preventing humanitarian agencies from speaking about the situation. ………….One senior official said: “There isn’t even a working email to contact them to see what is happening.”…………………………..Musk’s aides reportedly locked USAID staff out of their offices in recent days……………
February 4, 2025 at 10:08 pm #56072Steve Bannon was right when he spoke about muzzle velocity in 2019.
February 4, 2025 at 10:16 pm #56073Fellow Unbelievers,
Of all the reasons to get down on Trump, USAID is among the most frivolous.
These Are The Top USAID Recipients—From Religious Groups To Major U.S. Companies—As Trump Targets Agency
https://www.msn.com/en-us/money/news/these-are-the-top-usaid-recipients-from-religious-groups-to-major-u-s-companies-as-trump-targets-agency/ar-AA1ylN1P?cvid=3f9eca15e8eb4e41a539875e880b98a6&ei=44Notice that Catholic Relief Services is among the biggest benefactors of USAID, even though The Vatican has more wealth that several of the world’s biggest Corporations (how much exactly is only an estimate, since The Vatican is notoriously un-transparent with it’s assets.)
And maybe The Vatican’s charitable work rings pretty hollow with it’s scandals of life-endangering exorsisms, child sexual abuse, and hypocrisy about immigration (more on the latter below.)
And other well-endowed religious organizations line up at the trough of USAID:
Is This the End of USAID?
If anyone wants to help the poor of the world, religions and tyrannical overnments should the last places to go.
February 4, 2025 at 10:22 pm #56074Haha…the most MAGA people in the world, “Just Found Out”, LOL.
MIAMI — Venezuelan migrants in South Florida say they feel betrayed by a Trump administration decision to end legal protections for hundreds of thousands of people who fled dictatorships and sought refuge in the U.S.
New regulations scheduled to be published this week would end temporary protected status (TPS) for more than 300,000 Venezuelans in early April. Protections for a second group of some 250,000 Venezuelans currently extended through September but now also seem likely to be removed.
There is a tiny violin around here somewhere.
February 4, 2025 at 10:32 pm #56075Ahh, so Trump folded like a napkin on the tariffs already. FAIL! Maybe still wants his Mexican tomato on his 1/4 pounder. Well, guess what, Canada and Mexico will still be making other plans since they can’t trust the US at all.
February 4, 2025 at 10:44 pm #56076Enco,
I was just reading a report from an advocacy group about how the Catholic Church is still shuffling their pedo-clergy off to Africa and South America as soon as they suspect they got another abuser. My ex-neighbor/priest admitted to sexually abusing women while performing exorcisms on them. That shithead is still a priest and makes money selling stupid books
February 4, 2025 at 11:18 pm #56077Fellow Unbelievers,
And Catholic Bishops need to get the 84 Lumber Store out of their own eye before they try lecturing any American about a splinter in the eye on immigration, even JD Vance.
Vatican cracks down on illegal entry into its territory
https://www.catholicnewsagency.com/news/261557/vatican-cracks-down-on-illegal-entry-into-its-territoryThe Bishops could also take some Interfaith lessons on the dangers of stampeding people into single tight spots in the name of religious compassion. It never ends well:

February 4, 2025 at 11:52 pm #56078Robert,

Well, if the order to stop USAID still stands, The Vatican won’t have your taxdollars at work doing its clergyman shuffle. That’s a good thing.
The Amazon linkie no workie, so your ex-neighbor doesn’t have help from the private sector either. Another good thing.
By the way, DEI has nothing to do with helping the disabled, that was the Americans with Disability Act (ACA) 35 years earlier, though DEI does disable a lot of people from getting things done.
The death of DEI is another thing not to fret either. My concern at the moment is for the bandage for the collegen pad my Doctor prescribed for my foot ulcer to hold up. The color of either the bandage or the Doctor is irrelevant to the regimen.

February 5, 2025 at 12:29 am #56080Reg,
If USAID goes even by accident to any tentacle of the United Nations, an organization that condemns the U.S., Israel, and the West on a nearly daily basis, and provides succor and platform to Third World dictators whose policies impoverish their own people, and terrorists like Hamas who committed the October 7th Pogrom and continues to hold Jews hostages and use Palestinians as human shields, by all means cut it all off.
