Simon PayntonParticipantI know very few Irish people that really want to have Ulster “rejoin” the rest of Ireland.
I think Queen Elizabeth I caused a shed-load of trouble.

jakelafortParticipantReg, the loathed outsiders of Balymena are immigrants from?
That joke about following the daddy is a fill in the blank.
Thanks Reg

Reg the Fronkey FarmerModeratorI think the nationalities are not the primary reason that they are being attacked. It is the fact that they are “not us”. These communities have been very insular and unchanged for centuries and are very conservative in their outlook. This has made them very tribal and any “outsider” is seen as a potential threat to destabilizing their social and cultural routines. Almost everyone there would have friends or relations who were active “freedom fighters” only one generation ago.
Here is an article that mentions some of the issues immigrants are currently facing.
It may sound extreme but there is a long history of violence in Northern Ireland and rioting became a banal event during “The Troubles” when extreme violence was a regular experience. It is difficult to understand it without having lived through it. I heard about it every day growing up. We all knew people who were active in the IRA but nobody ever spoke about it. It was all normalized and almost taken for granted. It will take a long time for that to change as the history of the violence still hangs over the place. Connecticut is just a few square miles bigger than Northern Island if that perspective helps.

jakelafortParticipantYes the CT comparison helps. I can only imagine what a huge disincentive for immigrants. Sending a signal loud and clear that we don’t want you. And Filipiinos are such easy going people. I know a generalization but still…
Dublin or bust. That is no place to raise a family for outsiders.

Reg the Fronkey FarmerModeratorAround 2001 I had a short-term contract where I managed a project for Xerox to install several printers in a large company in Belfast, across 3 sites. My contact on their side was a Unionist who made it very clear to me that he hated people from “the South”. He did not actually say anything directly to me but we both instinctively knew which “tribe” we belonged to. In my head I really did not give a damn for any of this BS and made a point to myself to just get the job done. But me, being me, could only think about saying something smart to get him annoyed. After a while I said to myself, ‘ah fuck him and the horse he rode in on” and decided to say nothing unless he spoke first. (Yes, very mature of me!) The project was for 3 days but I stayed on the first night when most staff were gone home as it made my job easier. It meant I would be finished on day 2. As it turned out, we were done by midday and the client bought sandwiches and coffee for us. The grim faced Unionist sat down at the same table as me and made a deliberate point of opening his Bible so that I could not miss it.
I was going to quote Matthew 6:5 to him “And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by others”.
But then I spotted he had pages from 2 Timothy open. I said, Oh I see you like the wise words of Timothy? He glared at me and my sandwich wilted. Oh you know 2 Timothy 2:15 – Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.
I got up and said goodbye to everyone and left. When I was going to my car I looked around and noticed that his horse must have taken his chance and escaped 🙂

Reg the Fronkey FarmerModeratorOne of my client sites has a 50/50 mix of Filipinos and Europeans. What I note about the Filipinos is that they are laid back even when working hard, which is always and yet they are always smiling and joking. I brought in some Ube Halaya for someone’s birthday recently. When I told them the name of the shop I got it in (in Dublin) they started making phone calls. I still get looks that say “how the fuck did the Irish guy know this” , but always with a smile.

jakelafortParticipantReg, you tell a mean story. I mean well in saying so.
i know a number of Filipino dishes but that one is new to me. I need some halo halo. Definitely no to balut.
A few books ive read made reference to the hard work and good cheer of Filipinos. One of em and i cant remember the title involved Filipinos being the only ones who were shoveling cole into a ship’s engine. Might have been 10 years before the mast. IDK. Too bad the Spanish had to get to the islands and turn em into Christians. Curse you Magellan.

UnseenParticipantTACO Don suddenly realizes that deporting immigrant workers is a disaster. Get ready for the “blame someone and claim victory” exit strategy. One hopes the result will be some sort of reasonable guest worker policy like many other countries have so that a person can come here, not to rape and murder, but to work, without fear of being “disappeared” into a concentration camp in a foreign dictatorship without the benefit of evan a semblance of a trial.

jakelafortParticipantThe nuances of paradise puzzle me. Are these Iranian leaders getting their 1 way ticket to paradise? Does a Muslim have to strap a bomb to their leg to get those virgins? I argue that even if it is not strict martyrdom it is constructive martyrdom. You head one of these regimes/terrorist groups bent on destroying Israel you are probably gonna die in service to the cause. I am all for the cultural sensitivity and largesse involved in what is at most a tiny stretch so that these high mucky muck big fucks can get their just due.
Turns out it is the Israelis who are respectful of the Islamic norms no matter how degenerate and polar opposite of western values. Sure the lefty’s aid and abet the mythology and encourage new generations to die in the cause of no Jewish state and preferably no Jews alive but it is the Israelis who are getting the human fodder to the promised land. They love death more than Jews love life and the lucky men get so many pure F toys.
Think how racist it is to be a lefty. There is the obvious and undeniable explicit racism against Jews the world over. But there is an intrinsic racism in the notion that one group is oppressor, other group oppressed. Positing innate characteristics of each group is as racist as it gets. Forget the history of how once oppressed people have become oppressors. Forget the fact that slavery is endemic to humanity and all other inconvenient truths.
And if you are stupid enough to believe the anti-Israel mythology then you have an airtight instance of a people peresecuted in perpetuity until they got back to the garden and now are oppressing the indigenous and incapable Palestinians. And now i am humming Crosby Stills Nash (is that the name of the group) Got to get back to the gaaaaardeen.

PopeBeanieModeratorOh my gawd Pope that speaker is unspeakable.
I assume you meant this for me, but didn’t want to contribute to the source thread. (Just click on the link above, if you want to read it again.)
I had enough trouble comprehending enough of what you wrote, it prompted me to ask ChatGPT to summarize it. Man, Chattie did not have much nice to say about it! It surprised me, if it didn’t shock me. I think Chattie just wasn’t being its normal self, for some reason.
I wrote a preface for it and almost posted it here, but changed my mind. I won’t post it here, in public. I’ve never seen it come up with a question for me like the one it asked after it finished its summary. Something like “Do you feel the same way as the person who wrote this?”. I mean, it made me wonder if maybe it was working for the FBI, or maybe Homeland Security. So I responded with “No”.
I wonder how it might respond if someone else asked it for a summary. (All I did was copy/paste it, verbatim.)

jakelafortParticipantPope,
Very creative insults. Bravo. But ya got me curious so i fed my scribbles to Meta and the response gets and A-.
This essay appears to be a stream-of-consciousness critique of various topics, including:
A speaker they strongly dislike
References to current events, protests, and political issues (e.g., Palestine, Trump, and Elon Musk)
Conspiracy theories (e.g., Zionists, agents provocateurs)
A seemingly unrelated tangent about matzo and its ingredients
Observations about protestors and cultural appropriation
A sarcastic tone and criticism of certain ideologies and political figuresThe writing style is playful, provocative, and intentionally disjointed, blending serious topics with absurdity and humor. Would you like to discuss specific aspects of this essay or explore related topics?

jakelafortParticipantYeah Enco, the consensus seems to be limited damage to Fordow. I suppose it would be dangerous to Americans or more dangerous to be directly involved. Might just take one pass with the bunker busters to end that site. Or sell/lease/give to Israel to do the job. Already USA has helped defend Israel along with other nations. I assume that Americans and certainly jews the world over are at greater peril.
Another James Bond play by Israel and another David slew Goliath playing out. But more importantly this moment has the potential to awaken the west to the danger of Islam. The lefty’s have made the world much more dangerous than it might have been. The sad thing is that the modern Nazis will be the ones who are ultimately demonized rather than their ideology. When if ever will the world wake up and realize humans are acted on by external influences. The assumption is always that people are choosing to be Nazis or fill in the blank. The lies of the far left and the aesthetic and pathetic construct of history are directly responsible for untold suffering.
Hopefully the Iranians will no longer suffer the Islamic filth that has infested their nation for way too long. I too have heard a great many Iranians who are pleading with Israel to attack. What will it take to topple that regime?
If it happens and presumably a democracy follows then the middle east is a much safer place thanks to Israel and the quotient of human suffering and influence of Islam diminishes.
