Simon PayntonParticipant“Name one moral action performed by a believer that could not have been done by a nonbeliever.”
I think that’s not the point. It’s not either/or. It’s good that both exist.

Simon, which is the more moral choice? The one a person makes because they are afraid an authoritarian god is watching and can punish them; or a choice someone makes because they just want to do the right thing?

Reg the Fronkey FarmerModeratorHere is a question I like to ask theists in a “morality debate”. It usually goes along these lines:
Why is your god “always watching” you.
Pray tell Reg but whatever do you mean?
Can you please answer a straightforward question with an answer for once.
Our God is always with us so He sees all the deeds we do.
But why does He have to watch billions of people all day long when he already knows everything about ever act you have or will ever do.
He has given everyone freewill to make their own decisions.
But why does He have to watch billions of people all day long when he already knows everything about ever act you have or will ever do.
So at the Day of Judgement he will decide which souls to take to Heaven with him.
But why does He have to watch billions of people all day long when he already knows everything about ever act you have or will ever do.
We keep answering but you are not listening Reg. What don’t you understand?
I don’t understand why he needs to engage in surveillance 24/7 every day of your life when he already knew everything you would do over 14 billion years ago? Do you not think he has already judged you?
Do you actually believe that the Creator of the Universe spends His days watching you and taking notes? Seriously, you think this is your daily reality?
Then I stop talking for a while as the explanations always get more ridiculous.
Now you are saying that we each have a guardian angel who reports back to God. So instead of Him having to watch billions of humans everyday for centuries, you are now telling me that He has to get second hand reports from billions of angels every day, weekly, yearly? Or maybe just when someone dies. So about 250,000 angel reporting everyday then to tell him what He already knows? And what is St. Peter doing all this time? Hanging around at the main gates waiting for the end of the world? I am sorry, but can you clear this up if you want me to become a believer. Because this sounds completely unbelievable to me. Can you not see it from my point of view? You really believe this, yeah?
The atheist sayeth in his heart…

_Robert_ParticipantYeah, they can’t seem to grasp that “judgement day”, as administered by the omniscient one, is just a symbolic formality.
However, Satan may have some accommodation issues if he doesn’t have advanced knowledge of our final verdict. It would seem he should at least have a very educated guess since he was causing all that temptation. Exactly how fair is Satan with the issuance of temptation for sin and what is the unit of measure, one can only wonder.

jakelafortParticipantIdentify moral actions performed by an atheist that violate religious norms/codes/laws?
Identify religious norms/codes/laws that are immoral?
And yet many atheists are defensive, deferential about morality and say stupid shit like i can be good without god.
“What do you think, that i buried her behind this wall? Is that what you think?”

Ummm… Bombing an abortion clinic? Murdering a doctor who performs abortions in their driveway in front of their wife/husband and/or their children?
You have to remember the difference in what they may believe to be moral.

I think religious morality has plus and minus points. “To please God” or “to get into heaven” aren’t bad reasons for doing moral things.
But like you say, different people think different things are moral. The biggest drawback with religion is its tendency to make things sacred, which is not surprising if it’s headed up by God. When people make things sacred, all other values including human welfare become secondary. This is dangerous. Woke people do it too.

Nota bene The inspiration for Orwell’s character of Big Brother was none other than JHVH-1 His Own Self.

jakelafortParticipantNot sure if this topic has been addressed but it is something that occurs to me from time to time.
People who are influential in various fields are well advised to choose their words carefully. Creationists are wont to seize on any soundbite that makes evolution seem questionable to the casual observer. Einstein never should have said god doesn’t play dice with the universe or whatever that quote was. Israelis should choose their words carefully. Al Jazeera and the whole progressive movement will seize on anything from a Jew especially that seems to corroborate their hatred.
