I’d like to say that’s one of the least funny sitcoms I’ve ever watched, but I haven’t yet managed to push Last Man Standing out of memory.

I have never been a patient but i have spent more time in hospitals and nursing homes than i would have liked. And crosses in patient rooms make me feel a little awful. I have an emotional and visceral reaction. If i got stuck as a patient would i want the cross to be removed? YES. Problem is whether i take it down or ask for permission i would be wondering whether i am gonna be treated with same care as other patients. Or am i the malcontent Jew? And if perceived that way what are the consequences? It is so inappropriate and out of place in an institution dependent on science.

Social license, says he. Yes good characterization by Hitchens. Were a group of atheists to sponsor a hospital it would be in very bad taste to have atheist literature, atheist symbols or peripatetic atheists to answer questions or guide the patients.

I think the lady nun Robert linked is on my cable daily. Every once in a…i listen to her. She is robotic. And those nuns? What kind of life is it? How do nuns stack up to the rest of society in terms of being fulfilled? Being captive and having to play the part of a nun would equal or surpass and kafkaesque scenario.

I would dig it if a hospital had a cute little Baphomet mascot. Wake up after surgery to a demonic goat-headed statuette in your room, staring at you. But agreed, probably best to leave that as a matter of personal taste rather than hospital policy.

Yes, I did k-12 in that world and it was music, not jesus that was my salvation. These were not kind or enlightened people. I’d place most of them somewhere between SS guards and run of the mill cruelty.

Oh, thank you great Baphomet for guiding the hands of my surgeon.

Yeah nuns have a reputation of being sadistic and cruel. I’ve read many accounts of the torture and murder inflicted by nuns on kids in those homes. Heard many anecdotes. And of course the one with the great reputation Mother T. we all know about her. And it just figures that she is held up as paragon of virtue by the ignorant and religious. woops sorry for that tautology. Well you are no Mother T.!

Obviously it is a mistake to portray all nuns as wicked. But assuming that the representation as cruel sadists is accurate in describing way too many nuns what is the cause?

    Autumn,

You just don’t know the U.S. civil justice system. The process is the punishment.

    Robert,

Mother Angelica (a Sister at the time) once appeared on Jim and Tammy Bakker’s PTL Club and said: “God is for do-dos.”

    I believe her. 😁

I don’t know what this is in reference to.

My theory is this.Ā  Religion is there to promote good behaviour and prevent or punish bad behaviour (contextually defined).Ā  This gives sadistic people a great excuse to punish all over vulnerable people.

Yeah, nuns. The great beat poet, novelist, and humorist William S. Burroughs tells a tale of a nun who takes Nurse Ratched (One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest) up a notch or two.

That was great, Unseen, LOL. When I was around six someone told me that the nuns were married to Jesus. I thought, “wow, Jesus has a lot of wives for a dead guy.”

    Yes indeed, that was good.

Not exactly relevant but DEAD GUY took me there.

ā€œAt that moment the curtain in the sanctuary of the Temple was torn in two, from top to bottom. The earth shook, rocks split apart, and tombs opened. The bodies of many godly men and women who had died were raised from the dead. They left the cemetery after Jesus’ resurrection, went into the holy city of Jerusalem, and appeared to many peopleā€ (Matthew 27:51-53).

I can hear Negan asking the religious if they got their shitting pants on with a horde that big.
