Humanism 6 years, 12 months agoLet’s keep this as non-contentious as possible: Take all women who are older than 45 and working in their career and men who are older than 45 and working in their career. Let’s also assume that most of the numerous studies that show no significant difference when comparing the productivity of men and women in comparable positions as just maybe…[Read more]

LOL. I can only imagine once Earth makes contact with aliens, the outrage they will feel when humans use “animation and special effects or humans in costumes” as opposed to actual alien actors. I would imagine the alien “…

Humanism 7 years, 4 months agoI wonder if Hollywood would ever make a movie about this case in Egypt? Would they dare cast a non-Muslim as the presiding judge in the court?

Humanism 7 years, 4 months agoKara, I have no problem with a hetero guy playing a gay role and I personally don’t know anyone else who does either. I only hear this kind of anger from an online part of the LGTB+ “community”. I often am amazed by how eagerly they present their arguments as representative of the “community as a whole”. I agree that it would be wonderful if LGTB+…[Read more]

Humanism 7 years, 4 months agoLaverne Cox: She played the part of a female inmate in Orange is the New Black. She also played the part of the inmate when she was a he and was a firemen. So Laverne Cox got to play the parts of a LGBQT transexual as a female and a male. which is great!
You see I remember Laverne Cox when she was living at a welfare hotel on 28th street and…[Read more]

Humanism 7 years, 4 months agoIf you want to completely miss the point, yes. You seem to be having great difficulty with recognizing the importance of representation, and how relevant life experience can enhance an actor’s performance and the input they can give.

LOL Unseen: West Side Story: The only Puerto Rican was Rita Moreno. Everyone else did a great job of “Acting” like Puerto Ricans. I should know.
If acting was so easy everyone would be Meryl Streep or Humphrey Bogart.
Oh yeah! Laverne Cox!

Humanism 7 years, 4 months agoIt’s called “acting” for a reason. Hell, wasn’t Yul Brynner (Hungarian) great as the King of Siam in The King And I? And Espera Oscar de Corti (Italian-American) played A Native American in many a Hollywood “B” Western under the stage name Iron Eyes Cody. What’s wrong with that?

Humanism 7 years, 4 months agoAs for celebrating “firsts”, the very fact that something is a “first” is indicative that there is a problem in a particular field, so there’s nothing wrong in celebrating a long-overdue start of change.
