It’s like Sisyphus pushing a boulder up a hill. It’s just going nowhere fast.
While it is typically proper decor to criticize the belief, and not the believer, there are instances where criticism of the believer is in order. But I may also have criticism of the question itself.
What evidence would be reasonable or acceptable?
The hard truth is…[Read more]

There are no scientific studies about supernatural claims, because science is all about the study of the natural world. As for the supernatural world, one could fairly surmise that it just ain’t natural.

I would love to see an ex-Muslim’s version of this narrative, too, but the personal stakes for them can be soooo much higher.I’d like to see that as well. I should note, at this time, that I am not an ex-Christian. I’m not an ex anything. I’ve actually never believed. I wonder how many people are in that camp.

In one of my previous posts, Being Told What I Am, I highlight some of the horrible treatment that I’ve received from so-called “loving Christians” over the course of my life.
Before I continue, those Christians who say that those people “are not true Christians” [No True Scotsman Fallacy], understand that they would say that YOU are not a true…[Read more]

I’m seeing lots of problems associated with the concept of proof.
Religious Problem: It is clear that bellerose is requiring rather specific things that would serve as “proof.” These requirements are so high that seemingly legitimate and reasonable answers to what would serve as proof are not good enough for her. These articles of proof are i…[Read more]

I realized, just now, that I’ve not given a proper introduction. I’m Dang Martin, and I’ve been a non-believer for my entire life. I had no awareness of Christianity or the concept of gods until I was in first grade. I learned the hard way, and paid the ultimate social price for it.
While I do my best to be civil, so that the Mods don’t have to…[Read more]

I’m offended! (A special case of the red-herring fallacy) [source]
When a core belief is under threat from a good counter-argument it is common for many to defend the belief by stating “I’m offended”. Here the person whose beliefs are under threat seeks to defend their position and thinking, not with evidence and argument, but by throwing out an…[Read more]

Having grown up in the Midwest, I had a lot of experience with people who identified as Christians. When they’d find out that I did not practice their faith and did not believe in their god, they would typically get angry. This is a defense mechanism intended to shut me down.
As part of this defense, they would often ask questions. Below are some…[Read more]

What’s getting old is that you make declarations like this and then provide NOTHING in the way of clarity. Spell it out for us stupid Atheists who are seemingly so desperate for a distinction.
