Sunday School 1 year, 8 months agoIt’s a form of love, hero worship and a sense of belonging. It’s not a comparison of policies between candidates.  Trump built this with the MAGA movement.
This is why the sorts of things that might make them reconsider, are emotionally based. His crowd is too small. He’s losing his marbles. And finally, he’s boring. He has nothing new to say t…[Read more]

Sunday School 1 year, 8 months agoI just cannot see how a person articulate and intelligent enough to ask such a question cannot decide the pros and cons of voting for Trump or Harris.

@ PopeBeanie
All humans make mistakes and TW is no exception. They’ve been touring very intensely lately and are probably a bit worn out, jet lagged, whatever.
There are some blooper vids out there so they are able to laugh at themselves.

OK, tell me why we should not? We’re all a self-generating source of flourishing and meaning. The need to flourish generates goals; goals generate meaning. Without goals, we just languish, which is what happened to a lot of people in the pandemic.

I also find a lot of ethical truth in Sartre’s existentialism.I like the way the French do things, and probably Freud also contributed to their philosophies. Not everything is amenable to machine-like analysis of minutiae. Sometimes you need broad human strokes.

Sunday School 1 year, 8 months agoIn the end, we can always commit suicide.
Whenever someone in a group setting asks about the purpose of life I always consider suggesting that we should all go outside now and commit suicide. Depending on the maturity of the company of course. When I get told “that is a horrible thing to suggest”, I ask, OK, tell me why we should not?

Sunday School 1 year, 8 months agoI doubt today’s analytical philosophers are so rigid as if they walk around thinking like Spock or something.
Maybe they would confuse Spock by asking him what he means exactly by the term “live long” and if he could outline his definition of “prosper” in terms of the cultural differences between them and the Klingons?
Captain, its the Engines h…[Read more]

Sunday School 1 year, 8 months agoWhile I regard myself as a linguistic philosopher (and am thus more closely allied to the Northern/British analysts), I also find a lot of ethical truth in Sartre’s existentialism.
Some key concepts.
Existence precedes essence: The meaning of a life is only established when all is said and done. It is like a painting which isn’t finished until…[Read more]

Sunday School 1 year, 9 months agoAll that, and one has to make a binary choice in November.
I still fear that Trump can win. If Harris can keep the honeymoon going and also let the voters hear more of her actual policies, without the rhetoric, then I think she will have a much better chance. If Trump can’t keep himself in check during the debate and Harris displays a diplomat…[Read more]
