Sunday School 5 years, 1 month agoOnce again Enco, you don’t give a rat’s cock about consequences. You care about your unbending and unyielding principles. Experience teaches you nothing. History teaches you nothing. Your apotheosis of capitalism and libertarian principles is as mindless and unresponsive to evidence as a theist’s apotheosis of Jesus and fucked up Christian…[Read more]

Sunday School 5 years, 1 month agoA wizzar pissar documentary or book would investigate raper priests anonymously to encourage full disclosure to learn how many went into the priesthood with eyes wide open. Not just an easy way to make a living but a haven for their degenerate urges where opportunity meets a free ride without repercussions. And lots of variety…

Sunday School 5 years, 1 month agoReg: will consider them complicit in the these crimes against humanity if they remain active members of it.
That is reasonable. I think it is reasonable to take that stance even without those crimes. It is nearly impossible to calculate the harm done. But it is far greater than the sexual abuse of children as despicable and inexcusable as it is.

Sunday School 5 years, 1 month agoI only gave that article a quick perusal but it seems to be mostly about stolen information. That is another aspect of FB hosing us.
Corporations are cesspools. Profit is all that matters. After emancipation some of the biggest corporations in the USA were buying slaves. For decades they did it.
But we should just have unregulated full blast…[Read more]

Sunday School 5 years, 1 month agoEnco, i am not sure what you are asserting. But i trust it is more of the same elevation of your beloved principles and to hell with actual consequences. By the way the word is imprimatur not imprimateur. But if there is a censorship of social media bill that is at least a start. Typically legislators are beholden to their faux principles. But…[Read more]

However it does not change the clear delineation between generalizations without stereotypes and the generalizations that are stereotypes.
My hunch is that stereotypes transmitted and received like other mind viruses are not easily dispelled. While a deeply held belief of the validity of a generalization…[Read more]

It is a good bet that a shocking number of em do yearn for chaos. That is when the raping, looting, murdering and pillaging are easiest to do without penalty. There is also a strong authoritarian bent among many of em so that having president dictator is…[Read more]

I have called myself out for stereotyping. I’ve heard others call themselves out. Admittedly it may be unusual. Really not sure. But i take your point.

Can’t go along with notion that generalizations and stereotypes are one and same. All stereotypes are generalization but not all generalizations are stereotypes. While it is true in certain cases that we call it stereotype when we disapprove it is also true that a stereotype does not depend on our assessment of it. Stereotypes have…[Read more]

All stereotypes are generalizations. Not all generalizations are stereotypes. In most cases stereotypes are oversimplifications even if there is a grain of validity. They often have contain discriminatory or prejudicial notions and are held in common by large numbers and go without questioning like religious cant. They’re also transmitted…[Read more]

Like I said: “We call it stereotyping when we disapprove of it.” For those in the know, the everyday form of reasoning isn’t induction and it’s certainly not deduction. It’s abduction, which is just a fancy philosophical/logical word for what we normally call common sense. Common sense is as unreliable as it is unavoidable. We can’t trust it…

Somehow the link to your last comment on stereotyping is dead, so you’ll have to make a mental note that this belongs after the “I have called myself out for stereotyping.” My only comment is that if you think about it, this quote proves my point, that it’s stereotyping when we disapprove of it.

Random Posts 5 years, 1 month agoWhen you first see a person do you form an opinion of their intelligence or personality just by appearance? Is your impression typically accurate? I think stereotyping is an essential aspect of our daily thinking. We call it stereotyping when we disapprove of it, but what’s the difference between a general concept (a generalization) and a stereotype? Between an assumption based on experience and a stereotype? Not all nurses are female, but most are. Is that a stereotype or a simple…

It is really warped. Social media content? How worthless is that concern? What is on social media even if it is directed by algorithms to easily manipulated and credulous morons is meaningless. Where it goes from there is determined by the free market of ideas.

First thing that pops up…it Bulls were used to represent the USA on WWI recruitment posters. They were used in the military too. The most well-known was Sergeant Stubby, the most decorated war dog to have served. Sergeant Stubby warned his troops of incoming attacks and even held a German soldier captive.

Had it in my head that both the English and French instigated the scalping and paid natives for scalps. Memory is that French were first. But a cursory look at various sources suggests that both Europeans and natives had it before and independently. What a badge of honor…scalps are more convenient than bags of heads. What a species!
