PopeBeanie replied to the topic Who to watch in the next few years? in the forum
Politics 2 years, 7 months agoBefore I read your post, I decided to watch a 12-1.2 minute PBS Newhour summary after all, and found it more interesting than expected. Watch how many hands went up when asked if they would vote for Trump if he was convicted, around 3:55.

Politics 2 years, 7 months agoYeah, Trump has to work on his “I’m innocent” look. I’m sure this look appeals to those thirsting for blood in the streets, however.
As for the debate, the ones who made the best showing were Nikki Haley, Vivek Ramaswamy, and Chris Christie. Note that two of those three are Indian-Americans.
Ron DiSantis’s slide continues. He’s turned into a…[Read more]

Politics 2 years, 7 months agoI didn’t watch the debate, because I don’t care. Still, for what it’s worth, here’s the current field, sans the Trump, for posterity.

Politics 2 years, 7 months agoAug 24 2023 mug shot, Georgia. This pic is precious. His hair as perfect as it can be, and his facial expression is iconic, for a wannabee autocrat.

Politics 2 years, 9 months agoIs this paranoia? Is this the left’s fault, for pushing the GOP to entertain authoritarianist-like power grabs? To bring out their inner monsters? Is it just fake news from PBS?

Politics 2 years, 10 months agoI’m almost at a loss after watching this. I’m thinking our only hope may be to pick a Democrat in the primaries other than Biden. Any suggestions? What a fucked up, two-party duopoly we’re stuck with.
11 minute video.

PopeBeanie replied to the topic Fighting Trumpism and Single Party Takeovers in the forum
Politics 2 years, 11 months agoThis is a great summary of old news, Jan 6, but current because Trumpism is still a serious threat. I like this particular presentation produced by Ravi Gupta, one of my favorite journalists and commentators. It’s 10 minutes long.
(I’m sure the youtube warning is about cursing. Just click on “watch”.)

Unseen replied to the topic The Republican Party is succeeding because America is not a true Democracy. in the forum
Politics 3 years, 5 months agoOn the one hand, the Republicans complain that we should know the victor after the polls close because nobody wants to wait days, weeks, or months to find out who won. On the other, they are setting up a challenge process that could literally break the election process with no winner being…[Read more]

Politics 3 years, 5 months agoUnseen, I am sure we both recently have lost sleep over the FACT that the Furries are being pandered to and allowed to have their own litter trays in school. I suspect some will even have their names embossed on them in liberal lettering paid for by the taxpayers! Grrrgh!! At least some good Christians are standing up in protest against this…[Read more]

Politics 3 years, 5 months agoThere is a miniseries which you can watch on Netflix and elsewhere called The Family. It explains the dark Christian mechanism for subverting and taking over U.S. government.
The sad thing is that now that it’s all unfolding before our eyes, there’s probably little that can be done to stop it. We missed the…[Read more]

Politics 3 years, 5 months agoAll politics is local is a political adage that seems to be a reasonable statement. People tend to vote for a local politician that will represent their interests at a local level. In Atlanta, one of many States that have election deniers and incompetent people running for office next Tuesday, the adage falls flat on its face. People like…[Read more]

Politics 3 years, 5 months agoIt’s a good explanation of the mechanics of it, but not the root causes. I think the dissatisfaction of the aging- off-the-coasts-boomers knows no bounds. They feel they didn’t get their slice of pie and they were looking for a wrecking ball.

Politics 3 years, 5 months agoHere’s a take on why left and right candidates tend toward their extremes. I pretty much knew this already, but Fareed Zakaria has the best way to explain it that I’ve heard to date.
