Humanism 7 years, 5 months agoThis image was taken by the Juno mission which still has a couple months to go of observation. It will eventually fall into the Jupiter atmosphere. Because it is a mind boggling enormous planet the atmosphere is heavy and the pressure grows exponentially as you head towards the planets core. Juno doesn’t have to go far before its utterly crushed.…[Read more]

Humanism 7 years, 5 months agoBy the way, the white cricle at the edge of the planet at the bottom left quarter.. is a storm. It is about the size of our moon. A windy storm the size of our moon! Earth is tiny tiny tiny compared with Jupiter

Humanism 7 years, 5 months agoRight click on the image and click “view image in other tab” or whatever your OS option is to see it enlarged. The larger you can see it the more incredible the detail and light is! If you were on one of its moons in the right place, you’d be looking at this every day.

PopeBeanie started the topic Shameless Political Cons vs Constitutional Remedies in the forum
Politics 7 years, 5 months agoHoping to keep a list here of the most unethical political practices, and how some states (whether in USA or other countries) mitigate them. Potential corruption in any institution with power is a given, and well thought out state constitutions are written to head it off. Constitutional amendments are after thoughts that are difficult to…[Read more]

If woman want to be treated equally and then two sentences later I hear “the first woman to…..” well… what is one to think? My take: after hundreds of years–even thousands in some cultures, there’s still a lot of catching up left. Men have driven civilizations’ “progress” long, hard, and fast, but (imo) the human species will bu…[Read more]

Humanism 7 years, 9 months ago“However there seem to be few asking a much more important question: Why did it take Disney so long…meanwhile excluding 5% of the male population from its films and roles for the last several decades?”
From my perspective, that question has already been asked quite often. When Finding Dory, Zootopia, and the live action Beauty and the Beast w…[Read more]

“the first woman to…..”I’m not sure celebrating milestones is in itself counter to the idea of equality. If anything it is a reminder of just how difficult it is to break through in a job or role or position. This year, for example, the US House may have its first Native American woman representative. It is really hard to believ…[Read more]

Humanism 7 years, 9 months agoWould you believe it!! Turns out Matt Damon is not a secret agent with amnesia. He was just acting the part all along. Still I suppose a good secret agent has to be a good actor.
It gets worse! It turns out that Tom Hanks was not a real lawyer in the movie “Philadelphia” and they gave him an Oscar for it!! What was that all about! Hanks should…[Read more]

Humanism 7 years, 9 months agoYou might as well just buy the dead animal from an inventory as go on a “hunt” with a guaranteed outcome.
That said, nature is a bitch.
In their natural environment, most of the hunted animals would probably die a far more painful and violent death, in many cases being eaten by their killers before they had actually died. I would hope that any…[Read more]

Humanism 7 years, 9 months agoI should also admit I’ve used LGTB+ and gay men alternatively and that was a screw up on my part. Lesbian, bi-, trans and + all have it actually much harder than gay men in terms of being represented in major roles (as well as being cast in any films). Much worse! In fact Scarlet Johanson was so attacked for accepting a trans. role she gave it…[Read more]
