people are livid that no English politician actually used the word”racist” to characterise
Actually Corbyn did.
Telling four Congresswomen of colour to “go back” is racist. But the Tory leadership candidates can’t bring themselves to say so.
We should stand up to Donald Trump, not pander to him for a sweetheart trade deal which would put our N…

I think the reactions of world leaders says everything, most especially the first one:
That’s not how we do things in Canada.
Trudeau
We take the view that our parliament should be a representative place, it should look and feel like New Zealand, it should have a range of different cultures and ethnicities, and never should a judgement be made…

It is astonishing how quickly western civilization advanced once the chains of religion were thrown off. It was like BOOM electricity, BOOM airplanes, BOOM deep understanding of physics, BOOM dna, BOOM landing on the moon. Along with enormous progress in human rights, a kinder society and stable politics. Wow. Yes, the moon landing really is a…[Read more]

The most problematic thing for me is that I don’t know why it happened.
She became an ugly person. I am very skeptical that religion explains it all. Religion simply has the ability to bring out the ugly and crazy in people. From what I’ve read from you, the answer seems to be entirely within the conflict and problems in her life. If you are a r…[Read more]

The person you miss, is not actually the person she is now. The person you miss has gone, and is unlikely to return. The person she is now, is totally incompatible with you. Not because of her faith. Because of her attitude about her faith.
She may at some stage mellow, or deconvert, and then she will be yet another person – who you may or ma…[Read more]

Anyone who’s been under general anesthesia knows what it’s like.
Indeed. Under certain kinds of anesthetic, it’s like nothing happened at all between going under and coming back to Earth. It’s slightly creepy. But I think a more interesting comparison is simply: before you were born. Remember what life was like before you were conceived? Tha…[Read more]

Yes. I don’t think you are losing much by disengaging from social media.

To laugh at my weight struggles? To put me down?
Be it religiously motivated or not he sounds like a toxic asshole. A 15 page rant under any circumstances is extremely agressive. Smashing you over the head like that with your belief/non-belief is ugly to say the least. Accepting an apology but not giving one? Allowing a facebook post to wreck a…[Read more]

It most likely happened because she was terrified that you’d talk her out of her new comfort – sort of like an ex-smoker who gets all up in the faces of people who still smoke.
(Also, please could you use some paragraph breaks next time? It’s a bit tough to read a huge block of text with no breaks!)

Humanism 7 years, 3 months agoWhat do you all think?
Like so many many many times. A star trek episode sums up many philosophical ideas better than most philosophy books do. In an episode of DS9, in a future where Earth is a paradise and a strong Federation reigns, they are invaded by a dominion and humans become somewhat ugly in the war. Quark says:
Let me tell you something…

That’s not what I meant at all. I included that because for many people, they would be MORE likely to not eradicate some simple life forms if they were eventually to become conscious sentient beings capable of all the wonders and creative abilities and emotion and experiences that we have. The point wasn’t to…[Read more]

Indeed it has been pointless. Because if I knew you were a radical postmodernist I wouldn’t have bothered answering your challenge to my argument (which was quite a rich thing to do considering everything is simply based on perspective). The inconsistencies and unresolved conflicts within post modernis. and the accompanying fear of knowledge is…[Read more]
