Fellow Unbelievers,
If Palestinians want respect for their rights and dignity, a little reciprocity might be in order.
Here’s a sampling of the thoughts of Palestinians on Atheists. Only the fellow at 4:10 is completely accepting of an Atheist friend. The rest either think Atheists are to be therapeutized with Qu’ranic scripture (with all of it’s threats of fire and pain and Hell) or Atheists are to be shunned or at worst even murdered.
November 15, 2023 at 6:15 am #51360Enco that was cool they found a person who would accept an atheist. The disturbing thing is not the intolerance. That is a given. It is how fully lobotomized the cultists are. Can’t even conceive of a different world view.
November 15, 2023 at 2:44 pm #51363I have read studies that indicate physical brain structure in children is affected by their early experiences.
Much of brain research is descriptive and simply tells us how the brain contributes to the development of behavior that is typical of young children (e.g., language and face processing). However, some of this research has implications on the decisions we make for young children. Research on deprivation can be used to make the case that environments that adversely affect infants and young children need to be remedied before they have long lasting consequences on both brain and behavior. Intervening in adverse circumstances is more successful if it occurs before brain processes become entrenched and in turn harder to rewire.

If you want a pathological culture, force-feeding Islam is one way to go.

So, you’re in favor of oppressing Palestinians till they see things the atheist way or…what’s the point you’re making unless that they deserve the hate we give them because of the hate they give atheists. Not giving hate for hate is one of the bettter lessons of Christianity (Judge not lest ye be judged, Let him who is without sin cast the first stone, etc.).
If you don’t believe in human rights for people who disagree with us or for people who are ignorant or misinformed or who are in the thrall of a religious superstition…
JUST SAY SO!!!
Don’t do what Trump does. Don’t dog whistle us with vagueries that mean something like that they deserve to be oppressed.
November 15, 2023 at 7:05 pm #51370CAN ISRAEL SAVE ITSELF FROM ITSELF?
Israel, in its efforts to destroy Hamas and the Palestinians along with it, is killing itself because its allies are beginning to turn on and abandon it. Even the U.S., for example. Biden has been begging Netanyahu to spare the hospital where Israel says Hamas is hiding its operations center and is storing ammunition. Netanyahu doesn’t want to hear it. In fact, his government seems to be wanting to antagonize Hesbollah into the war in order to draw the U.S. in.
The problem is that Israel is ignoring every effort by allies to at least spare this hospital. As a result, the hospital has had its power cut off and cannot receive the supplies needed to keep premature babies, people on ventilators, and people in intensive care alive. The ER, which was one of the last places able to care for those wounded in the conflict, is now useless.
The problem for the world governments which have in the past been steadfast and reliable allies of Israel is that their electorates are turning their sympathies toward the people of Gaza, despite the horrid behavior of Hamas. They sympathized with the Israeli victims of Hamas, and still do, but object to the outrageous overreaction of Netanyahu’s government that appears to make no distinctions at all between Hamas and Palestinian. Ultimately, governments have to align themselves with their constituents, and bit-by-bit support is turning to criticism and outrage.
This is particularly true of two key former allies of Israel, Egypt and Turkey. Turkey is the only Muslim member of NATO, so Israel has become a problem for NATO, too.
Israel is in serious peril of “winning the battle while losing the war.” It may be too late for it to save itself.
November 15, 2023 at 7:34 pm #51373Unseen,
What I am calling for is nothing else but Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for anyone living in a free, civilized society: If you want your rights respected, you respect the rights of others as well.
The “Free Palestine” crowd hasn’t been doing that SOP when they block Jewish students in libraries or block Jewish students from attending events, tear down signs with pictures of the hostages of Hamas, and even try to forbid fellow activists from talking to interviewers.
Also, “Judge not…” means think not and opine not, and “Let he who is without sin” includes the “Thoughtcrimes” in The Sermon on the Mount, so these are not best practices for Man, The Rational Animal.

Well, they don’t live in one yet, haven’t experienced one, and probably won’t in the lifetimes that will be cut short if Netanyahu doesn’t stop. What’s going on in Gaza now is far more likely to birth new terrorists than newly opened minds.

I’m not sure why you’re bringing that up. Have I advocated taking things out on Jews outside Israel? Has Davis? or Autumn? If you think we have, say so. If not, you’re just diverting us away from the total moral awfulness which Israel embodies right now.

The judgment referred to in the first precept is judgment in the sense of reaching a determination. It’s about presuming the role of a judge. The second one simply asks to consider one’s own faults before acting against others for their faults.
If you are sure I’m wrong, prove it.

It’s not right to take anything out on Jews collectively inside or outside Israel. And getting rid of Israel would be taking it out on all Jews inside and any Jews outside seeking to go there. Not a diversion from anything. Facts.

All humans have to make determined and rational judgements in order to live. This line of scripture condemns humans for doing just that.
Moreover, The Sermon on the Mount considers mere lust or anger, even if not acted upon, to be equal to adultery and murder. That is what is meant by “For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God.”.
Saying that anyone who has thought “bad” thoughts cannot act against evil acts is to surrender the whole world to evil. Christianity prescribing this is just moral inversion.
November 17, 2023 at 4:26 am #51396The genocide in Sudan has had a few brief snippets on CNN showing very disturbing video including a mass grave and burying some of the murdered alive. Lots of testimony from survivors. All kinds of beatings, rape, enslavement and good old fashioned pogrom style executions. A legit genocide. Intentionality and objective of ethnically cleansing the Masalit people. It is not like Israeli conflict except that the RSF is like Hamas. Throw in famine for good measure.
I am waiting for a response from the far left. Does anyone want to intervene? Any nation? Any group? Any political party? T Is this like a nature documentary where the crew does not want to interfere with nature? It is Arab muslims murdering Black muslims. Not enough of a story? Imagine if the RSF were Jewish? It would be pandemonium all over the world. The hypocrisy is so over the top.

So, we’re now arguing which side is worse? One side is terrible and vicious, but not committing genocide, and the other is actually committing genocide. Lucky(?) for us, we have some leverage on the side which is actually committing genocide. We have no leverage over Hamas.
GOING ALL-IN FOR ISRAEL MAY MAKE BIDEN COMPLICIT IN GENOCIDE
Lawyers at the Center for Constitutional Rights issued the dire warning to President Joe Biden, Secretary of State Antony Blinken, and Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin in a 44-page emergency brief on Wednesday, on the heels of Biden’s trip to the Middle East. There, Biden reiterated his administration’s unwavering support for Israel — even as the Israeli government wages an unprecedented bombing campaign on the occupied Gaza Strip in retaliation for a horrific attack by Hamas that killed more than 1,400 Israeli citizens.
“Israel’s mass bombings and denial of food, water, and electricity are calculated to destroy the Palestinian population in Gaza,” Katherine Gallagher, senior attorney with CCR and a legal representative for victims in the pending ICC investigation in Palestine, told The Intercept. “U.S. officials can be held responsible for their failure to prevent Israel’s unfolding genocide, as well as for their complicity, by encouraging it and materially supporting it.”“We recognize that we make serious charges in this document — but they are not unfounded,” she added. “There is a credible basis for these claims.”
And, please, stop depicting those of us decrying the behavior of Israel as Hamas lovers somehow.
PALESTINIANS SUE BIDEN FOR FAILING TO PREVENT GENOCIDE IN GAZA
The 89-page lawsuit, filed by the Center for Constitutional Rights in a California federal district court, traces 75 years of history and analyzes acts committed and rhetoric espoused by the Israeli government that exhibit a disregard for international law. It is accompanied by a declaration from a genocide expert who describes Israel’s actions as signs of genocide and argues that the Biden administration has breached its duty under international law to prevent it.
“Under international law, the United States has a duty to take all measures available to it to prevent a genocide. Yet, Defendants have repeatedly refused to use their obvious and considerable influence to set conditions or place limits on Israel’s massive bombing and total siege of Gaza,” the lawsuit reads.
“Despite escalating evidence of Israeli policies directed at inflicting mass harm to the Palestinian population in Gaza,” the Biden administration has opposed “a life-saving cease-fire and lifting of the siege, even vetoing United Nations measures calling for a ceasefire,” the lawsuit continues. “Instead, their actions to fund, arm, and endorse Israel’s mass and devastating bombing campaign and total siege of the Palestinians in Gaza constitutes a failure to prevent an unfolding genocide and complicity in its development.”
November 17, 2023 at 12:51 pm #51399Everyone knows the eventual fate of a liberal democracy. It becomes so free, soft on education all the while pandering to its idiotic youth and celebrity culture, it literally eats itself. Kids don’t even know basic history or geography. So open-minded, its brains just fall out of its head. It invites-in and then protects those who hate liberal democracy. And of course, the internal reaction is to fill the void, not with common sense, but right-wing nationalism and fascism. We are literally watching this happen.
Israel had its own giant rift between the far left and the far right and we see what happened. It was busy fucking with the failing moderate Palestinians that remained and neglected brain-washed Iran and Hamas, practically giving them a passport to kill and rape.
November 17, 2023 at 2:53 pm #51400In any event the Israel/Hamas thing could end up being just another Middle East footnote, with Iran being the big winner. Meanwhile the Russia/Ukraine war and US/China relations are currently determining the new world order. I think the support for Ukraine is waning and if Putin eventually takes Ukraine, we have USSR Version 2 on the horizon. Western leaders are probably afraid of a Putin collapse and the resultant power vacuum anyways. Meanwhile N. Korea is keeping the Russian in shells as they continue their meat-wave attacks. Drown them in our blood strategy. Attrition is on our side.
If the US elects Trump, 80% of the people of this planet will be working for authoritarian dictators who will control the AI. People are so clever.
November 17, 2023 at 10:56 pm #51404Meanwhile the Russia/Ukraine war and US/China relations are currently determining the new world order. I think the support for Ukraine is waning…
Isn’t it great when you can get foreigners to fight a war for you, decimating the economy of another continent, and the only deaths you suffer are maybe several journalists? While casualty estimates in the midst of war are notoriously difficult to verify and are often used to mold public opinion or boost troop morale, it’s fairly well accepted that at least a half million or so Russians and Ukrainians are dead by now.
Military age Ukrainian men are doing their best to stay away from service and “recruitment” often now comes down to abducting men and boys off the streets and tossing them into the U.S. vs. Russia meatgrinder. The ones who haven’t ducked out of the country, that is.
While world leaders talk a good game, citizens are more and more having different ideas about supporting Ukraine. Not only that, even on the governmental level, war materiel donated in support of Ukraine have not changed the fact that Russia continues to seem to have the upper hand. Both sides have been using up ammunition but, unlike the West, Russia is able to manufacture in a way that keeps up with demand. Where it can’t, it’s able to obtain help from other countries. (N. Korea, of course, but NATO member Turkey seems happy to supply Russia with drones, as has Iran).
November 18, 2023 at 11:32 am #51406So, the new emboldened USSR-styled Russia has already verbally, if not physically threatened Poland, Finland, Georgia, Estonia, Lithuania, etc. somehow won’t give rise to an even bigger US military-industrial complex? Right. You know Raytheon is secretly pulling for Putin and/or China. Because that’s even bigger contracts than just supplying Ukraine. They are upset with Biden for smoothing things with China, China, China, just a bit. They want Trump back.
This is why even some old-school Republicans are Pro-Putin. Nothing enriches like a common, big bad enemy. Well, we have our axis of evil back again, good work. This time it is real too. Iran, Russia, China. There’s our new humanity. But the new-school MAGA Republicans have outsmarted the old crows. If you can’t beat the dictators, join them. Brilliant.
November 18, 2023 at 1:11 pm #51410All this propping up of Putin by Republicans, is eerily similar to how Netanyahu was propping up Hamas, BTW. Look what happened to Israel as a result, first attacked and now a pariah for defending itself.
I was reading about Afghanistan, mostly out of the news. Now that the Taliban has been left to its devices, I see that daughter-selling and sex-slave trading are back in full force. Women who had been working for the government were sometimes even offered to give their jobs to a male relative before being fired! Of course, there are no government services anymore, just Sharia law. So routine executions of gays and bad women and whoever has anything bad to say. Just don’t say you are hungry. And they are. A free Palestine, if they ever decide to grow-the-fuck-up would be the same. Funny how they have no food or water, but plenty of rockets.
