Robert, you are correct that there are many Iranians who despise their islamic regime and long for the prerevolution freedoms. I’ve heard some crying out for Israel to attack Iran. I was just listening to some Iranians who described how all kids there from age 9 are indoctrinated through fear in schools with death cult islamic BS that includes constantly saying death to America, death to Israel. And i have heard described the severe punishments and executions.

The islamists are waging a WAR of the MIND and the western lefties are enabling them. (Too bad the free marketplace of ideas was not the least bit efficient) You can’t make this shit up how retarded lefties are. The mini religion of singling out Israel as an oppressor in the cesspool of the middle east while Iran is behind so much shit and Islam is the driver of human behavior and central to the Jew hatred that causes near unanimity of middle eastern hatred of Israel while capitulating to the dictatorship’s MO in silencing opposition voices of criticism is shockingly stupid. And they have infiltrated our politics and academia. They are also driving reasonable democrats to the right and perhaps setting the table for Trump.

Meanwhile the real enemy is sacrosanct. Don’t say nuthing bad about Islam or you are a bigot! Lets just let the actual oppressors fuck over the people of the middle east and continue to represent an existential threat to Israel. Allow the cancer to spread into the west so that one day we can have a caliphate reign supreme the way it was always intended by Allah. I lack the knowledge but Sam Harris asserts that the Islamists are doctrinally sound in their actions and goals.

There is plenty of evidence that Hamas and Palestinian civilians are in many instances indistinguishable. Citizens were going into Israel taking advantage of the Israeli lefties and giving intelligence to Hamas. The attack was about half civilian. The crowds of civilians were jubilant in the humiliation and torture of Israeli civilians. And yet i have also heard from a former Gazan that it is not unanimous. There are some who long for an end to Hamas and the endless conflict. But they are silenced for fear of being murdered.

As i said the kids who are identifying with Hamas are so misdirected. It is pathetic. Of course Hamas needs to be crushed. We in the west ought to cooperate in all efforts to extirpate Islamism in its myriad expressions. We need to say goodbye to the assholes who validate Islamophobia as a concept. Criticize the shit out of Islam. Weaken it by exposing it.

    Jake,

The jist of what you’ve said in the last two posts is absolutely correct…with exception to the causation of the mess we encounter in Iran and U.S. Academia.

    You wrote (again, Bullwinkle):

(Too bad the free marketplace of ideas was not the least bit efficient)

I keep telling you, through clenched teeth and increasingly ruined dental work, that there is no free marketplace of ideas in a Theocratic dictatorship like Iran. Otherwise, the government would be Secular instead of run by Ayatollahs and all viewpoints could be freely expressed, not just Shia Islam, but Sunni Islam, Judaism, Christianity, Zoroastrianism, Ba’hai-ism, Atheism, Secular Humanism, even Jedi Knightism if there are any George Lucas fans over there.

And our own marketplace of ideas in the U.S. is distorted because the schools children attend from K to 12 have a captive audience to unionized teachers and administators more interested in retaining cream-puff positions than in instruction of children in subject matter that will build young minds and prepare them to think and act in independent adult life.

And our Universities are propped up with heavy State and Federal subsidies and contracts, on top of students subsidized with Federally-undrwritten student loans. Combined with the institution of tenure, this all serves to keep the same Professors in their Professorships and Honorary Chairs for generations, who then propagate Postmodern, Subjectivist, Marxist, and Wokeist Frankfort School “Critical Theory” nonsense.

Professor Thomas Sowell has often and rightly pointed out that tenure is no longer a way of assuring academic freedom, but is now a means of establishing new elites who then spread rotten non-thought and suppress dissenting thought:

Under this curriculum of subsidized and tenured Academia, Enlightenment ideals of Rational Thought, the Socratic and Scientific Methods, Individual Rights, Limited Government, Equal Justice Before the Law, expansion of the moral community to all Sapient beings, Free Market Economics, are all under attack, with every resultant good thing about The West, the U.S. and Israel barbarized with them.

From Academia, all of this trashing of Enlightenment ideals filters down to other institutions such as the Teachers’ graduate schools, the courts, philanthropic foundations, Non-Government Organizations (NGOs), business and management, human resources, theater, motion pictures, the literary and publishing fields, and Cyberspace culture.

Rational people have their work cut out for them and Israel and Jews are the prominent coalmine canaries for our nation and world’s perilous sit-rep. How they go, the rest of us shortly will follow.

    Enco,

Don’t be discouraged. The man with the sanican and a gold mining pan is in Islamastan.

rum tum tugger…reason is a tough bugger.

I never meant to imply that Islamic nations have a free marketplace of ideas. On the contrary and that is part of why i fucking despise Islamophobia as a valid concept. If individual Muslims are discriminated against then by all means use a word to describe that dynamic but for fuck’s sake drop islamophobia. The intentional conflating of those concepts inures to the detriment of civilization. Plays right into the bad guy’s hand. It is axiomatic that all dictatorships whether secular or religious promote censorship of any form of criticism and whenever they can get away with it will punish or murder those who do. Those fucking Muslim assholes who murder anyone who speaks a bad word about their hero Mohammed? It is insane we let them get away with that.

Having acknowledged the necessity of a free marketplace the fact remains that humans are so insanely easily led in their morality and in their beliefs and opinions. My contention is historically demonstrable agin n agin. It is a very sad state of affairs.

The Iranian Shiitehead Mullahs are supplying Hamas and working on their nukes, meanwhile their own people are fed up with them. I’m sure the women especially miss their freedoms, education, music, and dance and are sick of wearing black tents. Hamas would be long gone without the Mullahs and Ayatollahs. I’m sure the Ayatollahs would love to get their hands on a Mediterranean seaport, but the local Sunnis might not like it much.

Let’s give the dissatisfied Palestinians guns, then.

The Hamas-reported death toll is surprisingly low considering the human-shield situation and I doubt that many of the so-called “civilians” reported killed really are civilians.

The only good Palestinian is a dead Palestinian, I guess.

Stopping now makes no sense for Israel. I mean WTF is wrong with the West, just let it go on and on ? Stupid.

Let what go on? The quasi-genocide? Israel is swatting flies with sledgehammers.

If history decides that the American student protests are on the wrong side of history, it will be the first time. They were right about civil rights in the 60’s and about the war in Vietnam. They tend to have a keener perception of what’s right than their elders, when they become a mass movement.

Unseen, the announcement you posted occured in time before the video I posted of the reporter contradicting the speaker.

Also, the statistics on the deaths came from two contradictory sources, the Hamas Government Media Office that reported more deaths, and the Hamas Ministry of Health who reported less.

And the Ministry of Health based it’s death counts on both hospital records and “reliable media sources” (whatever that means.)

This is tantamount to believing Jesus was born, lived, died, and was resurrected based on an alleged 500 witnesses recounted in four contradictory Gospels that were all written 50 to 90 years after the alleged events took place and which have all been written and re-written untold numbers of times in approaching 2000 years.

If the source of the information is questionable, action based on the information is questionable as well.

Everyone is dogpiling on Israel, accusing them of genocide (there is no such thing as “quasi-genocide’,) boycotting their products, and in the U.S. and Europe, they are blocking traffic, trashing up campuses, accosting and attacking Jewish students, businesses, and synagogues, and dredging up the most ugly Anti-Jewish tropes that led to real, full-bore genocide…all based on an information nothingburger!

You have said one good thing though in all of this:

If there are Palestinians who are sick of Hamas and Fatah and every other faction of the Palestinian Authority that has brought them misery, tyranny, and death, then, yes, we do need to give those Palestinians guns and any other small arms they need to get rid of their tormentors, so that Palestinians may at last experience peace, freedom, and prosperity, side by side with their Jewish cousins.

Age and numbers have nothing to do with right and wrong, and there can be both right and wrong in any movement.

The Civil Rights Movement was right to fight Jim Crow but not to replace it with Crow Jim.

The Women’s Movement was right to fight Neanderthal men, but not to replace them with Vampiras.

The Peace Movement was right to oppose the Vietnam War, but not to call honorable Veterans “baby-killers” and pose on North Vietnamese guns like Jane Fonda and be dupes for the Soviets and Red China.

Likewise, concern for Palestinians should not mean hating and destroying Israel and Jews.

    Enco,

Did you see the article i am linking? Being a Floridian who knows his obsidian you’d know bout Balhoonian Augustinians.

Probably very mild rhetoric compared to imams in Gaza and middle eastern countries. Be accused of being a collaborator with that weak shit. He didn’t say nuthin bad. Ask him. It was just a prayer. He was only bustin balls. Not busting balls. I am curious if the standard Islamic prayers and rhetoric are toned down in USA.

Tortured. Shackles and handcuffs kept on too tight for so long (weeks, months) until limbs had to be amputated. Told to raise their hands over their head longer than they were capable of doing, so their hands were ziptied to the wire fence. Blindfolded for days and weeks at a time.

    “Never again!”?

    Jake,

I’m not a Floridian (I believe that is Robert who is Floridian), but I do know from obsidian.

It’s a volcanic rock that is very sharp when broken and is still used to this day to make surgical blades.

In a class on primitive skills, when flintknapping obsidian into arrowheads or blades, we were required to wear long sleeves, leather gloves, and safety goggles. Even then, tiny fragments would hit the face and make shaving-style cuts. We probably should have used welding masks, but at least we didn’t lose fingers or eyes as primitive peoples probably once did in our past.

One thing is for sure: I would never go under any blade or medical instrument, obsidian or otherwise, of this quack Dentist Imam! Making death threats under cover of prayer should be grounds for malpractice, not to mention exclusion from polite society.

Oh, and the “monkeys and pigs” rhetoric is standard in majority-Muslim societies.

    Jake,

I’m from North Carolina. We have our own batch of zany religious hatemongers.

The most notable, The Rev. Billy Graham, now has his own non-Gold Golden Calf-esque statue in Washington, DC:

All this despite his notorious secret Anti-Jewish bigotry, revealed in taped White House conversations with President Richard M. Nixon:

Billy Graham’s Troubling, Nasty Nixon Moment
The legendary religious leader exposed a nasty side in a 1972 meeting with Richard Nixon.

Billy Graham also made more open statements against LGBTQ people and his son Franklin continues the family business and praised Putin for his own anti-LGBTQ bigotry:

Billy Graham leaves painful legacy for LGBTQ people
While some are celebrating the late Billy Graham’s legacy, many in the LGBTQ community are grappling with the ramifications of his actions.

Maybe Billy Graham was not as foaming-at-the-mouth as the Florida Imam, but it is damning that so many in power think that Billy Graham is praiseworthy.

Billy Graham’s wife Ruth was very nice apparently, she took the writer Patricia Cornwell under her wing and saved her bacon, when she was a troubled little girl, showcasing the best of Christianity.  That’s why Cornwell wrote her biography.

Many Christians lead exemplary lives. My own parents, for example. Kind, unprejudiced, compassionate, altruistic. If it weren’t for the obvious fact that there is no God, I might well be a Christian myself, following in their footsteps.

    Simon and Unseen,

And, of course, as The Hitch points out, people can do great things for others without Christianity or any other religion.
