jakelafortParticipantEnco,
Says he and he says…You talk like algorithms are some mystical incantation revealed to some and denied to others and as inevitable as Calvin’s Predestination or Marx’ Historical Necessity.
Algorithms in gambling are destroying my livelihood. I am better than humans by a fair measure. Algorithms are better than i. There is nothing mystical, no incantations, (opposite of magic in utilizing vast amount of data, using patterns and interactions to predict probability) The universe may or may not be layed out in advance but that is not how gambling algorithms operate. They operate on making more accurate predictions. I just read something counterintuitive that applies to sports gambling in basketball. Teams that choke during the regular season (defined as losing more than their share of games that are within five points with five minutes to go do not choke in the post season). That is the kind of insight that i am guessing most sports gamblers would never know.
Anyways being cavalier as you are with human lives which are after all only fungible goods and an untapped source of meat is okay for you and Colonel Sanders apparently. I on the other hand value lives over FIXED half-baked principles.
The reason i brought up algorithms is that people like yourself are blinded to the possibility of a waking nightmare. If this sort of scenario plays out enough a waking nightmare will ensue. But hay as long as we have free speech and free markets and cheap two bit cigarette high jacking principles and subordinate the interests of individuals then all is well

DavisParticipantWell, I for one, don’t think that the words “Learn to code” constitute “hate speech” and I’m looking to bend some probabilities myself.
Wow. It is almost as though hate speech is just a figment of the imagination of marginalised people and that it is a term that some people like Enco seem to view with disdain. I never would have guessed.

I have no idea. If the US experience fucking around with the Muslim world provides any guideline; the Russians may be in for a long war with or without a puppet pro-Russian installed government. It hinges on Putin and the Ukranian populace. I don’t think the Russian oligarchs or the Russian people or NATO /US/EU/UN matter that much just now. If Putin and Ukraine end up in a long war of attrition, then the other factors start to matter.

Reg the Fronkey FarmerModeratorPutin has been winning his other wars. He will do to Kyiv what he did to Grozny and what Russia has also been doing in Syria. That is carpet bombing the cities, especially targeting schools, hospitals, power stations and residential areas. Tens of thousands will perish unless a ceasefire happens soon. I don’t think this is likely as he has not taken the country over yet and will not leave humiliated.
Ending Putin is probably the only way the war will end and the only way this happens is when his inner circle turn against him.

jakelafortParticipantI pretty much agree with Reg.
Saving face is paramount and unless there is a diplomatic surprise or Putin is assassinated i can’t see him withdrawing without having conquered. And i don’t think it will drag on for years. Am guessing he will up the ante and many will die. Hopefully the real guns remain in holster.

_Robert_ParticipantThe news that Russia has “kill lists” along with massive civilian casualties might encourage a long insurgency after the puppet government is installed. Will the commanders turn themselves in to the lying Putin or will they take their chances and advantage of all that NATO supplied weaponry that would flow to them?

Imagine the balls on this guy? That is beyond nervy or audacious.

I think your son isn’t old enough yet to put on a uniform and go get shot at, but I guess if he were you’d be up for sending him over there.
What exactly is it that you think we’re not doing that we should be doing, Belle?

Get rid of Putin

Get rid of Putin
We can’t. It’s not our place to do so. We have to hope that this war makes Putin so unpopular that there is a popular uprising causing the military to abandon him and stage a coup.

TheEncogitationerParticipantFellow Unbelievers,
Folks, it turns out that chisel-chested, horseback riding, he-man, strong-like-bull, so-called trustworthy Christian Hero of the West Vlad Putin took orders about delaying invasion of Ukraine from Emperor Xi in Red China:

UnseenParticipant@Belle Rose and anyone else wanting a no-fly zone, enforced by the U.S. and/or NATO is a catastrophically bad idea.
