If you have a VPN, apparently that is how you can access BBC iplayer from the US. There you should find lots of everything you are looking for.
Rebus is meant to be a good crime drama.

Interesting fact about the author of the Lynley mystery novels series, which are classic British whodunits. Elizabeth George herself is not British. Born in the American state of Ohio, she currently resides in the state of Washington.,

Opinion piece by David Brooks in the NYT. The deep source of Trump’s appeal.

@ Simon
Well, in the States there are only a few distinct city accents. New York and Boston among them. Elsewhere, the phenomenon of city accents is virtually nonexistent, though regional accents happen though regional accents do exist. But Midwestern is what the vast majority of Americans speak.

One thing I’ve discovered in watching British mysteries is the existence of numerous distinct local accents. A witness will say detect a Yorkshire or Manchester or London or whatever accent. Here in the states, we do have local accents but much fewer. Vast swaths of the country speak the standard Midwest accent you hear ubiquitously on the…[Read more]

Trump, who claims on the one hand that he has “no idea” what Project 2025 is all about or who is behind it is actually lying (and not just because his lips are moving). It was actually largely written by members of his administration. Listen to this dark threat/prediction by the head of the Heritage Foundation, predicting that either it will be…[Read more]

I look forward to the right wing militias uniting to bring down the next democratically elected POTUS while the orange man gets fitted for his new orange jumpsuit. I am sure they will trash the 100,000 active U.S. marine corps troops that will turn up that afternoon.

I have right-wing “gun nut” acquaintances who dream of using their weapons to help wrest the country from the grip of the leftist “commies.”
I do think the next election will result in a kind of civil war, especially if Biden wins.* I do not see it being won ior lost n gun battles, even if there are gun battles. I see it being won or lost by men…[Read more]

You’re c0nfusing statements about the world, which can have a truth value, with what they are statements about the world, which is truth itself.
