So there is something special about God that rises above other spectacular and incredible claims? Because it’s older? Popular? More vague? More conceptual? Full of traditions? Embedded in our culture?
We use reason and logic and clarity to evaluate just about every claim we hear, especially claims that we use to base our laws and morality…[Read more]

Ivy if someone in a serious way told you that there is a yellow octopus dancing on your roof. When you cannot see it you ask “what is this yellow octopus” and the response is incomprehensible and contradictory and mostly poetry, and even more, besides the absurdity of the claim, you don’t see any yellow octopus on your roof. As you ask for more…[Read more]

This is where I have to disagree. Just because God can only be defined subjectively doesn’t mean (therefore) that God doesn’t exist.
Yes you are right. God could exist despite the circus of many different bad definitions. But I think when people talk about the existence of God in that case, they are doing so “igtheistically” or “igostically”. They…[Read more]

Not everything in this world can be explained or defined objectively.
If you cannot define something objectively, then you have to say so, admit that you are playing in the land of totally speculative ideas, be extremely open to critique and challenge, constsantly trying to redifine your terms and understand them better, not create a totally new…[Read more]

Simon you don’t seem to understand what idiosyncratic means. Let’s take an example of idiosyncratic:
In group language and highly specialised language, using terms in a way highly outside the norm or in a way not common in the larger discourse on a topic IS idiosyncratic. Especially when a long explanation is given for a strangely worded…[Read more]

We really need to encourage our daughters to enter disgusting trades like sewage system maintenance and chemical tank clean-out and dangerous trades like high power line work
Yeah and these companies and HR departments need to be encouraged to actually take their applications seriously, actually HIRE the women who do apply and make sure they…[Read more]

God it that which eternally dies … (and so on) basically reminds me of BOTH the ideacles that come from Chopra’s writing as well as the randomly generated ones that are virtually indistinguishable:
The unexplainable requires subtle choices
God is how we imaginatively and collectively represent the existence of an…[Read more]

There is a kind of language of spirituality, and if you’re not used to the ideas, it tends to go straight over people’s heads.
Simon is it acceptable to use poetic, vague, evasive language with terms used in a way few people ever do and phrases that are impossible to properly conceptualise like “Faith is that which consistently rec…[Read more]

It’s difficult to take your claim of your support for what Jordan Peterson has said…with the kind of things you’ve said in the past. The only comment that gives you an emotional response is the one about women not being opressed throughout history. You stand by the rest of Jordan Peterson’s astonishing grossness.
Okay. So you agree…[Read more]

I agree that “straight white males” are often portrayed as bad guys, especially by the Left, for whom it’s a term of abuse.
Really. Often? By often what do you mean? Like one out of every four men portrayed on TV, the media, literature are bad guys? 1 in 4 heterosexual men are shown in a bad light in novels, TV and news? Are even 1 in 10 men t…[Read more]

Yes indeed Reg the sky is green.

It is only a matter of time.
Pretty much. If a group of psychopaths can find a way to all come from muslim countries, train as pilots, log in the hours over the years, avoid suspicion and keep quiet the whole time…and eventually one day fly those planes into the pentagon and WTC, they can get around the great digital wall of china and their…[Read more]

Simon I’ve had some time to dig around on Jordan Peterson more deeply and find specific examples. I hope you’ll reevaluate your love for the guy.
His views on LGTBQ+ and especially on transgender issues are appaling and he has said some very cruel things, directly to transgender people to make his point.
He is at times radically anti-feminist.…[Read more]

China supplies them with cheap technology several orders of magnitude cheaper than we in the west pay for iPhones or Androids.
I think this is a pretty dubious argument for four reasons.
1. China is not going to stop selling its tecnology to a country because an extremist group in that country committed an attack. Okay, if there were monthly…[Read more]

the easiest way to make a big splash?
There may be a little truth to that. But honestly…if a terrorist bomb went off in China (anywhere) and most especially in XingXiang it would create a global media storm. Belgium has no military presence in Syria/Iraq/Jordan/Palestine. Nor does Denmark. It’s hard for me to understand why you’d blow up a café in Copenhagen or blow up a metro train in Brussels (where a third of the population is muslim) unless it was for a general sense that their sphere o…[Read more]

Being easily offended is a pretty strong assumption based on a video in which most of the comments don’t even mention “offended” at all on a topic that most people here have never suffered any problems or discrimination or pain over. Some LGTB victims have had it REALLY bad, especially if they have been endlessly…[Read more]

Yes Unseen you are totally right. When academic research begins to support ideas you don’t like…you can always start finding flaws in it.
