Good rant Robert. Serious satire after Fronkey fixated on the F’rs dopin and copin best they can on the munchies at hand.
Checks and balances on government are sensible cuz you can’t trust F’rs unless they’re on a Fronkey farm. But business is a separate matter. No fuck for all just the beauty of free markets!
But why do they want police?

The SAV site is a tragic comedy. It only adds to my pessimism about our future.
Are those anti-vaxxers simply stupid? Ineducable? Irrational? Would twelve years of public education in critical thinking have barred the path they have taken? I am guessing it would have dissuaded at least a strong minority. The fact that atheists, humanists and…[Read more]

In support of my perception is exhibit A. In the USA vast numbers do not give a flying fuck for their fellow citizens as they eschew a minor sacrifice in getting vaccinated, social distancing, and masking.

I am a bit surprised free will has not entered the discussion. Perhaps the primary topic of intention needs settling.
I am not well versed in this topic. However it seems to me that intentionality is the sine qua non of the judger. Otherwise rocks, perilously hanging branches and other naturally occurring inanimate risks are subject to our…[Read more]

I am too Jake. As I find anyone who confidently declares that “free will as a myth” is so obvious it is absurd to discuss otherwise…and then go on to talk about things like intentions and consequences as though they are meaningful. Give me a fucking break. Jesus fucking shit-crackers. It is utterly flabberghasting to see someone dismiss…

No doubt about it, Unseen.
Our priorities are on display. Once again my reaction is…sickening.

Yeah, Unseen, we can’t be the world’s police but we can be the world’s intervenors when it furthers our purported interests. But for people being massacred and desperately needing our help lets see how our allies feel.
I could not disagree more Simon. Overwhelmingly humans do not care unless they have personal contacts or their particular…[Read more]

That is funny Unseen, that headline crossed my awareness, and i had similar thoughts.
I know as a nation we don’t care about genocide. It made an impression on me when Obama was running and indicated that we should intervene in an African genocide IF we have allies come in with us to save the victims. And there was no backlash. Nobody saying…[Read more]

Encospeak: As I have repeatedly alluded to regarding certain trick laws, intention is the hardest, most problematic thing to establish with anyone or their actions. Intentions, thus, cannot be the basis of any ethics or morality based upon reason.
How ya gonna continue to wave the cheese and get me to bite like a blue gill hooked and released…[Read more]

That seems more or less axiomatic. Intentions are the lynchpin of legal and moral analysis.
However if a person’s intentions are good but misguided as in the case of an inveterate gambling degenerate who struts into the race track with confidence and optimism risking the mortgage money and expecting to quadruple it to take his haggard wife on a…[Read more]

Sunday School 4 years, 9 months agoSimon says: Most of these things seem to be spectrums. People with BPD are sometimes comorbid with narcissism and/or antisocial personality disorder (exploits others materially). I knew someone with ASPD who has a marked lack of fear, like a psychopath.
Not sure when notion of spectrums arose but i suspect that is a better way to conceive any…[Read more]

Unless and until neuroscience describes the biology of the aforementioned it is just educated guessing.

Sunday School 4 years, 10 months agoI assume whether it is a relatively solitary mammal like an orang. or super social like a bonobo that the ethics of the individual and group evolved in such a way that survival chances of the species are enhanced. It is hard to see it any other way.
If that is a given why is the dynamic of our fellow mammals a paradigm for our own ethics.

Sunday School 4 years, 10 months agoFrom Simon: I’d say that evolution has already provided the ability, and we can fairly easily be socialised into and out of a compassionate mindset.
There is virtually zero doubt about socialized out of a compassionate mindset. No need to elaborate such an obvious point.
But there is front and center the issue whether we can be socialized i…[Read more]

Sunday School 4 years, 10 months agoI like that answer Davis but i wonder whether human nature isn’t as hard and fast as our cousins in nature. Sunday School 4 years, 10 months agoSimon, isn’t your answer kind of a cop out?
Are the mammalian ethics of our closest relatives still at play? If not then Nazi Germany may or may not be explained by evolution. Or do you look at more distant relatives? Why are evolutionary ethics even relevant?

michael17, whatever you are writing is of no real interest in terms of prospective validity to a rational person. If you can’t make the case how it is that there is anything to any version of Christianity then it is like one version of a cartoon or another. The cartoon is make-believe.
