Atheist Zone gives no quarter!
That is why most of us join in the conversations. We are here to be challenged and to be informed.
I was once booted of a Christian forum because “I tended to disagree with people most of the time even though I was polite at all times”. !!!

I think if I did not have to hear the phrase “But I’m not religious, I’m just very spiritual” so often I might entertain the word more. But it is too closely aligned to religious fantasies for me to want to want to include it in my repertoire. Even writing that phrase made me throw up a little in my mouth. Better get some spirit to wash it out.

@Autumn – That is wrong. It may describe something different to everyone who uses it…
@Simon – Yes, but to the people who use it, it means something.
Yes, it can and usually does have a subjective meaning. But as a description of an experience, it does not. But in any objective sense it is meaningless – or at least not meaningful enough to desc…[Read more]

@Simon – whatever definitions I could give, are never going to encompass all the things that people mean by the word.
And that is why I have said the word is meaningless. If it means something different to everyone then it describes nothing. It should be seen as an archaic term. Now I am off to partake in some vittles.

No, he did not use any timer apart from his own mental clock. So it is a contradiction. Imagine if I said I had a spiritual experience because I lost all sense of time for about 7 hours when I was asleep.

@Simon – It sounds like someone’s trying to be “spiritual” who doesn’t understand it…
But that Simon is exactly why I said the term is meaningless. It is entirely subjective. On what authority are you claiming his version of spiritual is incorrect and that your definition is correct.
His reasons for claiming the experiences are spiritual…[Read more]

The reason that “nobody understands quantum mechanics” * is that it is not intuitable by the human mind. Maybe a better way of saying it is that QM is “unintuitable”. As Heisenberg said, “particles are not real. They just form possibilities rather than facts”. However, from our observations of QM theory it makes accurate predictions about the n…[Read more]

For me the term “spiritual” is meaningless. This is because it has too many definitions and they are all subjective. Same as the word “God”. As soon as a theist tries to explain what they mean by “god” they render their definition meaningless. They shoot it down in flames but don’t see any fire. Spiritual is a legacy word from the time when we h…[Read more]

Sunday School 4 years, 2 months ago@Enco – I thought all Alcohol was plant-based. Reminds me of someone who once said that she only eats natural food as it only has natural chemicals. Would you eat Organic chemicals? I asked. “Yes, but only the natural ones, obviously”! “Oh, and I would never kill any animals, not even a fly”. What about head lice? I asked with a straight face.

Quite possible. Upon reading them over the years he became an atheist and then with his improved sense of morality…..returned them 🙂

Sunday School 4 years, 3 months agoThe sand that some people have their heads buried in is about to become rather wet. I don’t understand why permission is given to continue to build along some coastlines like further south along the Keys. My family recently sold the condo up in PCB and climate change was part of the reason for doing so.
Here is another good article on the topic.…[Read more]
