The reason to host a speaker outside the context of a course has to be because they are of interest to the audience. That the speaker’s views are not of interest to the organizers should be irrelevant. That the speaker is being banned because the hosts disagree with them is among the worst reasons not to provide a forum for them. Particularly t…

Sunday School 4 years, 5 months agoIndeed Enco, I had meant to address it to Simon as Simon was mentioning trigger warnings. If you had read the whole thread, you would have seen multiple posts about it. I don’t see how you could have possibly missed it.

That is such an obnoxious overgeneralisation Simon. Groan

Sunday School 4 years, 5 months agoSimon, if you had a daughter or son who had been recently raped and was in schooling (at any level), you would appreciate it if their teacher or professor took a total of 5-10 seconds out of the class to let any student know what was coming, especially if say, reading a chapter from a book that involved rape would potentially harm their recovery…[Read more]

Sunday School 4 years, 6 months agoPart of Peterson’s platform is his “how to live your life”. Some of it is just repackaged stuff the stoics said, some of it is messed up…not a single part of it is original or profound yet it sells. People live by that advice. What I find really really really, but I mean really fucked up…is that people still look up to him as a model of a…[Read more]

Sunday School 4 years, 6 months agoSimon you have such a man crush on Peterson you are willing to dismiss vile behaviour you would rightfully call out as vile if someone else did it. Ugh.

Most European cities have exceptionally good, clean, cheap and frequent public transportation (there are obvious exceptions I know). I do not miss the very high cost, frequent maintenance, grief or stress of driving. It would be a nightmare having a car in the city centre anyways. I can very easily used a shared car the rare times I ever need one.

That’s a total bummer unseen. I hope you have your mobile handy with you!
I guess Simon, you won’t bang on a moving bus ever again! I would imagine the bus company didn’t give a toss about your complaint?

That’s a bummer Unseen. I guess you’ll have to pee sitting down for a while. My fingers are double crossed that your knees will be back to normal soon.
Simon, I think busses almost always win 😉

I’m so sorry Davis. Reg helped me a lot when my mum died, by getting me to go around her friends and learn new stories about her.
I have to say, some four years later, that a few of those stories still crack me up – in particular the one where she was in the back seat of my brother and wife’s car as they drove in France and got stopped for spe…[Read more]

My mother passed away today. I am extremely fortunate to have two parents who are deeply loving, caring, doting and supportive. I’m sure you know, as getting older, if you had parent(s) who had even one of the above qualities…you were an extremely lucky person.
Some of their values pass on to you, and in other ways, they directly and indirectly…[Read more]
