being held accountable can feel like an injustice, even though the exact opposite is the case.
Yes Reg. That line stuck out for me too. A perfect summary of how even progressive people can become regressive people with victim complexes.

I am with Robert more or less on this. Some of the depictions of the New Atheists are absolutely spot on. I would say of all of them the hyperbole is most extreme with Dawkins. He has unrepentedly said some stupid shit but it is ridiculous to lump him in with the bigger sleazebags of the bunch. I would say Sam Harris is a borderline case.…[Read more]

Sunday School 4 years, 10 months agoWhile not a systematic study I can recommend Farley Mowat’s “People of the Deer”. He spent considerable time with Inuit Canadians as their lives were slowly being interrupted by Canadian interventionism, economic exploitation and general indifference. It is a very beautiful, emotional and tragic read.

Sunday School 4 years, 10 months agoI do not know of a single English speaking country that doesn’t allow home schooling Enco meaning none of them have compulsory attendance laws as you are implying. In fact only one single Western country places limits on homeschooling (and even then not entirely). Are you just against mandatory schooling (even if it is homeschooling or private)?…[Read more]

Sunday School 4 years, 11 months agoYes. I’m sorry. I had read a long article on the story claiming that she had also trashed another teammate and the team itself. But now I cannot find that article or any other article that says is. So yeah I was wrong. Apologised. Based solely on the snap (and the ambiguous nature of “fuck cheer” and nothing else I would be in favour of her being…[Read more]

Sunday School 4 years, 11 months agoIf an employee snap chatted fucking shit fuck fucking Bob’s auto parts, and fucking bullshit garage that is slow to get cars out on time and fuck my colleague John who is a dipshit who was given his job for no good reason and fuck the fucking repair industry in general…
I would be fairly surprised if they were dismissed and managed to win an…[Read more]

Sunday School 4 years, 11 months agoYou might be surprised to hear this from me, but I find this case slightly less clear cut than others. It’s not as though she was mouthing off about her dislike for doritos. She was mouthing off about the voluntary social activity which she was participating in. And she attacked the voluntary social organisation she was a part of in an…[Read more]

Sunday School 4 years, 11 months agoIndeed Jake,
Many free market theories are based on the idea that entities will make rational choices in their best interest. Analysing business decisions shows this is frequently not the case. People do all sorts of vainglorious, petty stupid shit in the business world (or follow hollow business or marketing techniques not backed up by evidence)…[Read more]

Sunday School 4 years, 11 months ago110ºF – too much. Hit 104ºF (about 40ºC ) once in Malta and spent most of the week in an air conditioned bar. About 74ºF in Dublin today. I don’t want more than that.
When I was having those kidney problems a couple years ago, it hit 42º in Madrid and I had to go to the hospital for three days because my body/circulation-system simply couldn’t…[Read more]

Sunday School 4 years, 11 months agoI would utterly adore a day of 40º after experience weeks of Northern European grey skies and rain.
Having said that, the fact that the temperature is higher than ever recorded is not proof that CO2 emmissions are causing climate catastrophe. That is a marxist conspiracy designed to convince people to get microchip filled vaccinations against a…[Read more]

Sunday School 4 years, 11 months agoExtremely interesting article on social media. Sunday School 4 years, 11 months agoCanadians have been living under the illusion that they are some beacon of tolerance, progress and that bigotry and inequality are something of the past. They have also had a very strong reputation abroad for some time. There may be a tiny sliver of truth to that as they are a relatively peaceful country compared with say, its neighbour or some…[Read more]

Sport is a fair as anything other sphere of life is.
I would say it sports is probably more fair than other spheres of life which are a lot less closely observed, quantified and regulated. But they aren’t as remotely “fair” in so many senses as one might think. Redo that race a few seconds earlier and the 2nd place runner could have easily have…[Read more]

There were two links. You didn’t notice the other one or your tactic is to use the first one to distract from the second one.
After reading the first link I didn’t bother with the second. Though yeah, after having read it…turns out to be a fairly sensible article. Might have been better to post that one first before the blatantly provocative a…[Read more]

Nebulous Categorical Emperative (sic)
The categorical imperative in practice, is the absolute opposite of nebulous. I simply don’t see anything remotely fuzzy about forming a moral law and never breaking it. That’s another shortcoming of Religion, Philosophy, and Political Theory: Not enough life-hacks.
Yeah. Political theory only led up to many of the rights and freedoms we enjoy everyday. But that pales in comparison with political theory’s terrible lack of life hacks: like how to keep a bag of rice properly closed or the best method for keeping y…[Read more]
