Dont go Bob. We need each and every opinion. Pushing the envelope is more than ok with me and I am personally for very few limits on our expression of speech.

Andrew i admire your willingness to go to gaol for your principles. I hope you would agree that free people are going to believe in different moralities and ethical principles. This is a good thing it seems to me.
But we live in a society that requires a minimum amount of interdependance.
To give legal effect to each persons own morals would…[Read more]

There can be only one law. This you would think is self evident. How can a society function if a person can choose the laws they want to obey? The rule of law is fundamental in maintaining a free, democratic, fair and most importantly a well governed and functioning society.
The absence of the rule of law is a hallmark of a failed state.
Yet…[Read more]

So this is a good point. Free speech has been limited in some circumstances. But I prefer to not recognise any general right or interest not to be offended. This is because offense is such a subjective notion. Often abused by the theist.
There are a surprising number of limits on free speech but the most well known tend to fall into two…[Read more]

I agree and I particularly like the idea that you need to focus on what is pragmatic. I share antifa’s frustration and anger but we all need to step back and look at what it is that works.

What we got here is a failure to communicate.
And if rationality is to survive then to my mind communication is the key. And for communication we need to be able to speak freely.
The UN charter of human rights states in it’s preamble that enjoying freedom of speech is one of the aspirations of mankind. Article 19 states ‘Everyone has the right t…[Read more]

It is hard to beat the UN explanation for how mankind arrived at the notion of rights … the preamble to the charter says this about human rights:
- they are the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the world,
- disregard and the contempt of human rights results in terrible and barbarous acts by men
- enshrining human rights in law…

I guess god forgot almost everything: radio waves, plastic, TNT, metallurgy and deodorant. Im guessing they really could have used the deodorant back then.
And what about tips on food production and farming? That wouldnt have gone astray either.

OF course they dont exist – in the sense that gravity exists or light exists. They are a social (and sometimes legal)construct that is highly contextual.
The aim of things like the UN charter is primarily to provide a minimum paradigm that would enable different societies to co-exist.

How is it a mega being with omnipotent powers could forget to include the basics in their magnum opus? If there is a god then they deliberately refused to include the following in the bible:
– gravity
– electricity
– mathematics. What happened to ZERO? You would think any god could have given us nothing.
– chemistry
– the basics of…[Read more]

The lay definition of psychopath is – someone with a mental disorder that makes them behave in ways that can be dangerous to other people. Sounds about right to me.

Arrogant with undeserved self-confidence and patriotic fervor combined with a distorted view of the world; this is the problem with having a psychopath for a leader.

Belle this is the last post I am going to make on this because I do not want you to feel like you are being attacked.
Humans are incredibly intelligent. We make associations and patterns where no other species can. This allows us to survive and prosper. But this incredible ability to make patterns can lead us to draw connections where none…[Read more]

Belle what is it that you need to have explained?
There are things we understand completely through science. Some things we understand a bit through science. And other things that we dont understand anything much at all about.
Religion has zero explanatory value. The bible, the koran and any other religious text you care to look at have very…[Read more]

Belle the issue I have is this statement … ‘And no one can ever convince me otherwise.’
The thing is this – it seems you want to believe. Whether you had a premonition or luck or whatever has no real significance whatever. And it does not mean there is a god. And it is not evidence of anything let alone a god.
The fact is humans seem to be the…[Read more]

The real problem is getting anyone to think at all. Look around you – pretty much most people need to ‘switch on’ if you ask me.
