Well thanks Reg, sorry I was late to the party 🙂

Antony Hopkins aficionados – there’s a 2007 movie called Fracture, which is brilliant, twisted and showcases Antony’s best talents.  Please watch it, if you haven’t already.

(I have to admit, once again I found myself rooting for the villain)

🦹‍♂️

Enco, loved your explanation of your edits.

As a youngster I had a massive crush on Antony Hopkins, having watched him play Pierre in  a BBC TV series adaptation of War & Peace.

The best part of the SOTL movie was the fact I wanted Hannibal to win, even with the atrocities he’d carried out.  The movie WAS the villain.

He must be 90 by now, but…[Read more]

With reference to Russia now blaming Europe…

The past was alterable. The past never had been altered. Oceania was at war with Eastasia. Oceania had always been at war with Eastasia.

Thanks, Reg!!

Thanks, Reg!

Firstly, “Jake spake” is possibly the coolest signoff line I’ve seen 😎.

Regarding wishing we could all see each other as equals, that’s not how humans evolved. We are an instinctive tribal species, and there’s always “the enemy” somewhere to fight. If you’ve got no-one to fight, you’ll lose your fighting people.

You see it in football in Europ…[Read more]

Great link, Reg

Yes Jake, we have a small break to allow the iced rain to plunge down and glaze the snow, so when the snow returns this evening, it will have a nice new platform to settle on.

I’m leaning towards The Shining, Reg

Thank you, Reg!

I’m in a 24 hour snowstorm in a cabin in the woods. What could possibly go wrong?  😑

(I’m actually caretaking this property, so technically I’m more like Jack Nicholson in The Shining)

If we are talking democratic elections, then no, the USA does not have them, due to the existence of the electoral college system.

Thanks x 3!!  Reg you spoil us 🙂

Re the ‘starting point’ comment. This seems absurd to me, having been born and brought up in Europe, in a country that has thousands of years of history both good and bad.  History moves in waves, each ‘starting point’ having been triggered by earlier event crescendoes. You can’t just pick a reference point in history and call it the ‘starting…[Read more]

Hey Reg, thank you. Happy Groundhog Day!

That was a powerful poem, Reg. The last three lines contrasting the fluffy precedent ones is quite dramatic. Thanks!

Thanks, Reg!

@unseen that was perfect 😂

If I meet someone who informs me of their preferred pronouns, I’m going to use those pronouns. It’s really easy.

My ex-wife had this exasperating attitude where she was convinced trans people are just playing games for self recognition and yet a massive danger in public restrooms.

The funny thing is, a trans woman is not safe in a male only res…[Read more]

The middle one of those links states “Still, the assaults appear to have little to do with the attacker’s gender identity, according to documents filed with the family’s lawsuit. Teachers say he preferred and requested male pronouns, according to a report by a law firm that investigated the assault.”

Robert said“ All the documented attacks and threats on biological women who expressed concern about woman’s safety in bathrooms. A male rapist in a skirt could easily be indistinguishable from a trans woman. Shameful.”

No trans woman has assaulted a woman in a bathroom. This equates to the Hawaiians eating people’s  pets.

It seems extraord…[Read more]
