Sunday School 3 years, 3 months agoOne thing we can say for sure: Exactly zero U.S. gun owners were involved in this shooting, which took place in a nation with the strictest guns laws in Europe.
Yes, we can say that is most likely to be factually true. Would never happen in a church in the USA where the faithful can happily carry guns into church to defend themselves.

@jakelafort *woops…forgot about efficacy of prayer experiments
I think it only works if your hands are joined together and your face is strained enough to wrinkle your forehead like that chef Gordon Ramsay. There is no way he got those frown lines by being worried about the carrots boiling too long. He should fess the f**k up already.

Sunday School 3 years, 3 months agoYet another shooting in a Church, this time in Germany. I wonder if the murderer was inspired by blind faith in an imaginary god?

Sunday School 3 years, 3 months agoYes, all religions are corrupt and immoral. Granted there are people who are religious and are ‘good people’ but they would be just so without their faith. They are the minority. Religions are about surrendering your ‘self’ to an authority that is entirely man-made. It is this very fact, that they are all man-made, that leads them to corrupt…[Read more]

Carl Sagan said: “The cosmos is within us. We are made of star-stuff. We are a way for the universe to know itself.”
If the stars did not explode and send the debris of atoms around the Universe we would not be here. We can credit our creation to the death of stars and the molecules and amino acids they produce.

Hi! According to the Elohim the universe is infinite in time and space with no beginning, middle or end just existing in the ever present eternal now moment.
That is not scientifically correct.

I have always liked Carl Sagan. I also like the Jim Morrison slant on it (more than the John Lennon idea!)
They are waiting to take us into the severed garden
Do you know how pale and wanton thrillful
Comes death on a strange hour?
Unannounced, unplanned for
Like a scaring over-friendly guest you’ve brought to bed
Death makes angels of us all

Whenever I hear the song ‘Imagine’ by John Lennon and he sings ‘imagine there’s no Heaven’, I always think he got the lyric wrong. It should be ‘imagine there is a Heaven’. That is the default position. That is what the religious people do. They imagine that there is such a place. If it was real you would not need to use your imagination! It is…[Read more]

Believing in an afterlife helps to sustain people, especially those who are enfeebled by religion. How so many humans still believe that they will become immortal is an embarrassment to our race. It is all about addressing the fear of death. The atavistic notion that we have a soul is difficult to do away with. The duality of mind and body w…[Read more]

We recently went past the 8 billion mark. It will take a lot more war, earthquakes, floods and pestilence to trim those numbers. You are right that things will change drastically. The games have already begun!

Not only is the Universe expanding but the rate of expansion is accelerating.
All objects that have mass (mass not weight) will exert a “pull” on each other when close enough to each other. Think of the moon and the Earth and the Sun. The Earth “thinks” it is shooting in a straight line through Space. But is it being pulled towards the Sun bec…[Read more]

@rhonjon – I often recall the sad story of Hypatia:
The following is a description of a religious riot which took place in Alexandria during the early days of the Church: “Among the many victims of these unhappy tumults was Hypatia, a maiden not more distinguished for her beauty than for her learning and her virtues. Her father was Theon, the…[Read more]

We need to bear in mind that Biblical attitudes towards human sexuality have a tendency to incline many Christians towards a hideous sense of moral piety. This inclination leads many of them to appear as if they spend every waking minute thinking about the sex lives of other people. To any rational human being this obsession appears as an objective…[Read more]
